Ok - this is a U processor - so it won't be very fast compared to other models - and the graphics card is an entry level (not very good).

For that money consider this

Thanks for checking mate. I'm looking to get it of the very website so I can pay up.

Would the one I said really be no use? I don't run that many leagues and would be looking for 5 star graphics.

Noticed the one you showed me didn't have full 1080 Hd screen resolution which sorta puts me off.

Full HD screen has nothing to do with how it handles the graphics - that's handled by the graphics card.

And the one you pointed to had a not so good graphics card, the one I pointed to has a better graphics card.

It's completely up to you which one you get.

Ok found this one on Very. Think I'll go with it, last question about resolution, would I still be able to play FM on 1080 and if not is this that big of a deal in terms of how it looks?

Cheers again for your help and sorry about all the questions just really knew to all this

There's a difference between laptop/ultrabook and something you haven't mentioned, which is a netbook.

FM will play fine on laptop/ultra book baring in mind that it keeps within FM resolution min specs. What that minimum resolution is I cannot find online - maybe a mod/si member can comment?

Ultrabooks are typically light weight and choose components that do not drain power, as FM is a processor monger it will need to use the processor excessively.

Ultrabooks don't typically have very fast processor, all in save power on your computer while traveling, and this will be compounded by the fact that the processor will be used excessively with FM - meaning that it will get hotter - the hotter the processor gets the less fast it will run, trying to cool down.

If you do get an Ultrabook - check out the processor speeds, and also invest in a cooling pad for it.

"If you are using a Netbook, the minimum resolution requirements for FM2015 (1024 x 768) will not be met, as the screen resolution of your computer is 1024 x 600."

https://support.sega.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/201580552-Troubleshooting-Game-Launch-Issues

Thanks guys, yea looking to stay away from netbooks. I think the resolution should be fine just the processor that might be the problem, will have to look for the best cooling option.

Is that a safe website to buy from?

Thanks for the comment.

Sorry to butt in here but I can vouch for the company. Brought my last laptop from them and as I live only 45 mins away i picked up the next day from their Birmingham depot. No complaints.

Hi there,

I've not played FM fora few years but I can feel the addiction stirring inside again.

So I need to buy a laptop (UK based) to run FM15 smoothly, but also for general home use - browwing / watching dvds / storing music & pics etc.

Not great with laptops etc but can anyone recommend a laptop in region of £500-700 that is suitable.

Thanks in advance

Okay, so after my 4 year old laptop spent over 6 and a half hours yesterday laboriously trying to delete my FM graphics folder I think it's probably time to get a new one.

What sort of specs should I be looking at to get the best out of a £600-700 budget? Other than the basics like web browsing, music and videos it'll be primarily a games laptop. It's main purpose will be playing FM with a fair few leagues playing (and for once I'd like to be able to view games in 3D) but I'd like it to be able to play a few slightly more graphics intensive games too so would prefer one with a decent graphics card.

I don't mind going a little over budget if there's something that makes it worthwhile.

That's a great laptop dovEs .. Shop around at the price though, you may find it slightly cheaper online elsewhere.

Big fan of the 8gb NAND drive too

Hi chaps, not sure where to put this or whether I need to get in touch with steam.

Preordered FM15 throug ShopTo, so had the beta code. Thought I'd download it so there was less to install on release day, but haven't played that.

Since that, my computer has died. So I've ordered a new one. But it doesn't have a cd drive. Am I right in thinking I'd need the cd-rom to complete the installation that I've started?

Obviously, that can't happen now, and now I've used the code, I can't send it back or give to a friend because it'll be assigned to my steam account.

Annoying!

Is there anything I can do?

What does the NAND drive do? Won't be able to get that laptop without paying it all upfront though I presume.

Vaguely remember from previous years you had to put the disc in to complete the final part of installation.

Could be wrong!

Absolutely won't be any good for 3D matches - consider upping your budget.

You'll be able to play on low detail barely.

Ok found this one on Very. Think I'll go with it, last question about resolution, would I still be able to play FM on 1080 and if not is this that big of a deal in terms of how it looks?

No link there...

If the laptop allows a resolution of 1080 - you can change that in the display properties.

I think you're confusing HD TVs with laptops, it's not quite the same thing.

What does the NAND drive do? Won't be able to get that laptop without paying it all upfront though I presume.

It's a solid state drive, similar to how a usb stick works, it's basically faster at loading/saving games.

do people think that would be ok for running fm15? Processor is 2.1ghz rather than the recommended 2.2. Cant see that making too much difference though...?

Item is no longer available.

For 999 pounds you could get a beast of a laptop which would be far better for FM.

Are you settled on a 13 inch? Or would 15 be ok?

I've always been of the opinion that Macs are terribly overpriced, well built though, but overpriced for what's under the hood.

I've always had a Laptop but looking to get a Mac Book now even though FM and browsing is all I'll be using it for.

Is this decent for enough for FM?

Or should I stick to a standard laptop?

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/apple-laptops/apple-macbook-pro-13-with-retina-display-21962972-pdt.html

I'd reccomend you go for a high spec laptop rather than a MacBook. MacBooks are nice but for the money, you could get something like this (i7 Processor, 12Gb RAM, Dedicated 860m Graphics card). With some change left over and also the ability to play other games if you desired.

Hmmm I do understand but was also buying into the whole Apple experience.

I'm not majorly fussed about running it on 3D full detail etc but would that Mac be enough to run a large database with say 10 nations and their leagues active?

Thanks for your help!

The mac is running a dual processor - not a quad core processor. The more leagues you are running the faster the processor and more cores will really help with processing.

There have been reports that the Lenovo overheats a lot - but I can't confirm that. If a computer overheats it tries to cool itself down by putting the fans on overdrive, and the processor will run at a lower speed to try and cool itself.

Sadly, Macbooks also suffer from this.

I really think you should check out https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/

You can custom build your laptop and you'll have a much better computer than anything you buy off the shelf, mac or pc.

Here's a quick idea what you can get for your money

UltraNote: 14" Glossy HD LED Backlit Widescreen (1366x768)

Processor is fast

Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4712MQ (2.30GHz) 6MB

Enough RAM to future proof your purchase

16GB KINGSTON SODIMM DDR3 1600MHz (2 x 8GB)

250 gb SSD will improve boot times and load and save of games (as game files sizes can be massive)

250GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 520MB/sW)

Thermal Paste - Ensures your laptop processor can cool itself.

ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND (€12)

Came to just over £1,000 after tax.

Only downside is that it's 12-14 weeks to build... But gives you an idea of what you can get for your money.

Done a lot of research now and the one you have suggested is now my favourite! Would that be able to run a fair few leagues I guess?

Only issue is complaints about the screen and graphics on the laptop itself!

I do like that model and it looks powerful enough to keep me going for a few years too! Its just a trade off between the Retina Apple Mac as I have a fair few Apple products so would be useful but at the price of the game maybe not running as well...

I don't know what the big deal about this retina display is really. I understand what it is, but it's not a buying point for me, especially when thinking about the laptop for football manager.

I'd go for power over slightly better screen any day.

I know and understand! But thinking beyond FM then as long as a Macbook can run say 10 nations with a few leagues then happy days!

I have a 2014 Mac Air i7 8gb RAM and it is doing just fine. I have a save going with about 15 nations loaded and my performance is still at 5 star and my speed is at 2 star. The 2 star speed doesn't bother me. I expect it to take a bit with all the nation loaded, but the performance is still set at 5 star and still running great and no heating,

Ahhh that sounds like it can handle a decent set up then! What is your database size?

Ya and then I also make some tweaks to the preference and detail screen.

I think that database size started at like 60,000.

Just two. I am dicking around until the full game comes out and I find a legit tactic to build a save around.

Eugene kindly recommended this. I was just wondering if the 3d engine will look decent on this and roughly how many leagues will I be able to play in on this. Looking to buy asap, so answers will be appreciated

Would you guys say this is worth £700?

ASUS G750JW

Processor - Intel Core i7 4700HQ Processor

Chipset - Intel® HM87 Express Chipset

Memory - 8GB DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM

Graphics - NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 VRAM

Display - 17.3" 16:9 FHD EWV LED Backlight/ HD+ EWV (1600 x 900) Non-Glare LCD Panel

Storage - 2.5" 9.5mm SATA 750GB HDD 7200 RPM

- Dual HDD Support

- RAID0 Support

Operating System - Windows 7

Downside is it's second hand but I know the guy who's selling it. Only 3 months old and still under warranty etc. Would be looking to add a 250gb SSD as the main drive pretty much straight away. So do you reckon it's worth it considering I'll have to buy an SSD separate?

Ended up going with this -

MSI GE60

Intel i7 4700MQ (4th Gen) processor with up to 3.4GHZ turbo boost.

8GB RAM

128GB SSD

750GB Sata 7200RPM HDD

DVD-RW drive

NVidia 765M GTX with 2GB RAM

Windows 8.1

15.6" full HD 1920x1080 anti-glare LCD

Steelseries keyboard with backlit display

Decent buy for £590? Reckon it'll be able to run 100k players for 10 or so seasons without much slow down? Other than knowing I wanted an SSD and at least 8GB ram I'm clueless when it comes to computers. Just used benchmark sites to judge the CPU/GPUs.

Should be here tomorrow so can't wait! Considering I'll be switching from a 7 year old Acer laptop that's felt like it's on the verge of exploding for the last 2 years it should be some leap regardless. :D

Is it worthwhile upgrading the ram to 16GB or is there really no point at this stage? Atm FM15 is probably the heaviest use it's gonna get as I'm too busy with uni work, although I'm considering not bothering with a PS4/Exbox and just using this for gaming as tbh I'm happy enough with FM, Fifa, a racing sim and a fps these days.
