Excellent, thinking about it is there anything with a bigger hard drive so I can put and iTunes library on it as well and just general use of internet and possible downloads?

You'd have to sacrifice performance.  TBH you'd be better off getting an external drive or a USB stick for your iTunes

Thank Benny. Do you know how good the cooling/thermal on Huawei mateboook? I heard good things about it too.

Few more questions, if I still go with the lightweight with U chip choices, whether buying a cooling pad could help reduce the throttling when running FM? If no, is the throttling really bad can affect the whole laptop performance and lifespan?

Do you suggest any other laptop tick all my boxes except the weight (around 2kg could be fine)

cheers

The thermal on the Huawei could be an issue but it always is with these ultra-portable laptops under load in FM.  I wouldn't worry about lifespan as that's what the throttling is there for.

I've got a cooling pad myself and I don't think they work tbh, I've seen no noticeable difference in temperature.

There is another option the MSI Stealth Thin GS65, its pretty expensive though but it's a gaming laptop with a full H processor and a great graphics card.  There are loads of reviews on youtube etc so see what you think.

Its pretty much the best laptop money can buy under 2kg performance-wise

Here's some reviews of thin and light gaming laptops - https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/best-thin-and-light-gaming-laptops

Mine works pretty good, if not only to keep it off the couch, off the carpets, off the dusty surfaces, bed etc.

Helps to keep the vents clear :)

I can't find anything that would keep it under your budget unless @Smurf has any ideas?

Hello

i tend to play commentary only but would like to play some 3D matches this series, so graphics don’t need to be top end , ideally will use it to run all the English leagues and probably , Spain, Germany,Italy half decent graphics will be fine as long as I can ideally play the next 2 or 3 football managers quite comfortably.

other usage will mainly be internet and general things like CV etc

im guessing I could by an external HD

I'd go for the external, you won't regret either of those laptops, you can run an itunes library from a USB stick from Amazon for £20 (128gb)

Tinkering with this mix and think it would do for your needs.

As you only want to watch some matches on 3D - I recommend having them on low-mid settings, whatever you feel it can handle well when watching.

The OS will be on the SSD - which will have fast boot times and more efficient faster day to day computing, but no effect on FM

The RAM is mid range speed, should play nicely with the processor - you can always upgrade the RAM to more like 16gb and a faster model of RAM at another stage.

There's also a 2TB SSHD drive for all your music, and SSHD should allow some way bit faster transfer of files, if I'm not mistaken.

There's a cooler master gel for the processor to help with heat issues when playing FM as it's quite intensive on the processor the cooler gel should keep it running.

Recommend getting a laptop cooler at some stage.

There's more things to configure when you click the link, mostly free, you can choose your Browser, Anti virus, etc. to be installed.

What's nice is that there's no bloatware, which is a huge advantage.

Wow ... that’s absolutely superb, i will probably reduce the hard drive to 1TB  as that will be more than enough for me and upgrade the RAM to 16gb coming to £815, I can afford that

do you see any problem with that?

I'd stick at 8gb you can add more later.

You could probably up the graphics card then.

As you can't up the graphics card later, I believe.

After being set on getting a new computer from PC Specialist, I've been put off by some bad reviews on Google, and the PC Specialist Facebook page. Then general consensus seems to be they're either great or really poor. Looking for alternatives now to be honest

Depends what you want from FM, big database, lots of leauges - or little database and a few leagues.

How many years into the game do you want to go? With a large databse you'd want a better computer to go 20-30 years into the game, but may not need sucha  computer.

Then it depends on your budget

Below 500 and you're not going to get anyting that play a lot of leagues, or with the 3d match engine running full tilt (if at all )

500-600  you should be able to have a low-mid game world of database size - low graphics

600-700 you should be able to get something for mid game wolrd  database size. - mid graphics

700-800 you should be able to get something for mid-large game world databse size. - mid-high graphics

800- 1000 you should be able to get a substantial game world databse size. - high graphics

1000-1500 you should be able to get a substantial game world databse size. - high graphics

Anything over 1500 for FM is overkill - but if people want to spend that then that's fine with me, I can only find and recommend.

Of course - it's all relative to how much I think each computer can handle depending on prices, and it's subjective from to the users point of view to what's acceptable speed and quality and database sizes they load.

I wouldn't bother with user reviews. Can you point to these, I'm not on facebook, but please do post to other links. Bare in mind, a lot of other computer companies would post bad reviews etc to bring their rating down.

Plus, Facebook has become a platform for complaining to companies, only people with complaints will actually post a review, so anyone who had a great experience wouldn't, hence you won't find many nice reviews on Facebook - I found.

On Trust Pilot it's very highly rated

Of course it's your choice, and I'm not trying to Champion them - but there are others.

I am currently looking at getting a new laptop, mainly because mine is almost 10 years old and the battery has packed up (have to consistently plug it in and new battery is expensive).

Looking at the Acer Swift 3, looks decent with new gen 8 processor but has 1.6 ghz quad core (3.4 ghz). I am not great with computer specs, is this enough because I read the minimum specs for football manager is 2.2ghz?

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-swift-3-14-intel-core-i5-laptop-256-gb-ssd-silver-10180997-pdt.html

I would basically just be playing football manager 19 (playing 3d), browsing the internet, watching videos on youtube. Do you think this laptop would be sufficient?

Last football manager I played was 17 on my 10 year old laptop with 6gb ram and it worked ok even with 3d so I assume these new laptops will be up to scratch right?

Any help much appreciated :)

Apologies, just wondering if anyone would kindly have any thoughts on the acer swift 3. I really am not so savvy on specs but this looks decent with as it is the latest 8th gen and has 8gb ram.

From your expect knowledge how do you think this would handle football manager? :)

Only thing that concerns is the processor speed, 1.8?

This is better hey

@Smurf @bennytee So just to clarify, as I’m 90% decided on the XPS 15 2 in 1...this will run FM in 3D with no problems in Tablet Mode? The 4K i7 16GB version will be the one I’ll be getting? Cheers!

That's if they have it in stock, found that with them, I had to go to 3 different ones in a day to get an emergency laptop bought, none of them had them in the stores when I went around. Then the last one the manager checked the warehouse and found the one I was looking at.

Moral of the story - say that you have been at loads of different computer stores and nobody has it - that's if they don't have it in store on display or even if they say it's out of stock.

Worked for me.

Exactly, that's what happened to me. I even rang to ask was it in stock and told it was. When I got there they said they hadn't got one. 3 stores later I finally found it.

Maybe ask them to put it aside for you.

Ha - true - but would still like your feedback on how you find it :D

Remove bloatware -

Firstly - create a restore point

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Create a restore point, and click the result System Properties.
  3. Under "Protection Settings," select the main system drive, and click the Create button.
  4. Enter a description to identify the restore point.
  5. Click Create.

Then:

There are other tutorials if you don't find that useful.

But it's all there.

Before you go around messing with anything to do with uninstalling, removing programmes, etc. it's always good to create a restore point. You can set these up to be automatic to create restore points for you all the time.

In the very unlikely event anything goes wrong - always have a recent restore point.

I'm thinking of getting a 2 in 1 and wondered what people thought would be best

2in1 are expensive and not as powerful as a regular laptop at the same prices.

Do you really need a 2in1?

I don't need a 2 in 1 as such but I want something I can also use for work and need it to be light and mobile.

If I was going to get a proper laptop I was looking at this one which was recommended above

It's definitely up there. I haven't looked all laptops in 650-700 range - but I would say it's very good for that price.

Runs 3d very smoothly, each click screen to screen is fast, no fans going mad.

Perfect
