I think you should be aiming more along the lines of this

Cheapest I could find on the site. Maybe Barside has an opinion on something else, I did see an i5 8th gen U on there - but wasn't sure if it would good enough.

Struggling with this one...

What would be the minimum budget required then? Which processor and graphics card (if needed) would you recommend to someone on a tight budget?

We're talking minimum required for a decent Football Manager experience. It's the only game that will ever be played on it, so please keep that in mind. I don't need an expensive graphics card to watch dots on screen. :D

Ordering my laptop today, thanks for your help.  One more question if I may.

The i5 with 16GB and the i7 with 8gb are the same price.  Which would be better? Is there much difference between the 2?

Worth going for the i7, for average personal use you’ll be unlikely to push RAM usage beyond 8GB.

Agreed - you can add more RAM later if needed.

Hi every one,

Why do you think about this laptop ?

https://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/ordinateurs-pc-portables/lenovo-ideapad-530s-14arr/f-10709-81h1001tfr.html#mpos=1|cd

Can gpu vega 8 run 3D at a good level ?

How many leagues can i expect to play in good conditions ?

Thanks a lot for your expertise.

Sorry, that one won't run the game. The processor is only a 2GHz one, and the minimum requirements are 2.2GHz, and even that wouldn't run it well.

I'd go for this one from that site instead, it's better in pretty much every way for games: https://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/ordinateurs-pc-portables/ordinateur-portable-gamer-lenovo-legion-15-6/f-10709-80wk0079fr.html

Considering the minimums spec CPU is a Pentium 4 at 2.2Ghz+ a Ryzen 5 with a base clock of 2Ghz & a Turbo Boost to 3.6Ghz will be fine, graphics will probably be a mix of low & medium settings.

Good find on the alternative althouh it is packaged into a larger chassis to allow for the additional 1TB HDD which increases weight by 1KG so the Lenovo wins out on portability which might be a more important factor for @Charlypocket

Thank you for your answers. I am looking for a thin and light pc to play FM in good conditions. I read that the intel hd620 graphics chipset was enough. Since the amd vega 8 graphics chipset is more powerful this should be enough? Someone here is playing with a built-in graphics chipset to get me back on the quality of 3D games?

Thanks

Hi All,

We've just ordered new laptops at work, will this be okay to play FM19 on?

https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2XZ51ET&opt=ABU&sel=NTB

Many thanks

At base speeds, the processor won't be fast enough, but the boosted speed would be okay-ish, but it'll probably run hot, and you're not looking at running it well, but it'd just about manage I think.

This is untrue, my friend has this exact processor and it runs FM really well, its passmark score is 7385 which is pretty high end for a laptop processor, for comparison the i5 7300hq reccomended multiple times on this thread has a lower passmark score and similar single threaded rating.

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/AMD-Ryzen-5-2500U-vs-Intel-i5-7300HQ/3123vs2922

I understand that the base speed is lower but it won't throttle as much as you'd image due to the lower wattage.  If you are in the market at the £500-£600 price point and can't quite afford the £200 jump to a decent discreet graphic chip option then this processor with it's excellent on-board graphics is a great choice

more about this chip here - https://www.notebookcheck.net/Our-first-Ryzen-5-2500U-benchmarks-are-in-and-Intel-has-every-reason-to-worry.266618.0.html

Is the Intel one a better chip for FM? Yes, but to say that one of the flagship mobile Ryzen chips won't be able to run FM is patently untrue.

Apologies to Jordan, not trying to tread on any toes and I understand that the laptop market is a minefield.  Also your recommendation is the better choice due to it having a better cooling solution and graphics

FWIW The minimum specs for FM 2019 are Pentium 4 2.2Ghz first introduced in 2002 proving that (however badly) FM can in theory run on pretty much anything.  As an example on the move I play FM on a windows tablet with an Intel Core m5-6Y54 processor with a base clock of 1.10GHz although admittedly with only 7 leagues loaded and it runs fine with medium/low graphics settings

I've got no experience of playing FM without a dedicated graphics card but I have no doubt that it would run with lower graphic settings.  If money is an issue why not go for your first option and then save up for a decent graphics card.

My current setup is i5 4670k with a GTX 760 that I picked up second hand for peanuts and it runs FM18 on high settings

Sorry to be a pain I’m absolutely useless at laptop requirements for the game. I’m looking the cheapest laptop that will run fm19 at a reasonable speed. I only really load English league prem to conference on it with quite a large player database from around the world. Any body got any suggestions would be much appreciated thanks

What's your budget?

How mobile does it have to be?

What kind of screen size are you after?

I want a laptop if that’s what you mean by how mobile is has to be. No room for a desktop.

Budget is probs max £600 but ideally little cheaper if possible.

Not too fussed on screen size just literally one that runs the game suffienctly. The laptop I have at the minute is absolutely useless.

I meant in terms of having to move it from one place to the other

Best I could find is this at the top end of your budget with a dedicated graphics card - https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.GP8EK.003-Acer-Aspire-7-A715-71G-57YT_2156569.html

The problem these days isn't the amount of leagues you want to run but that FM is becoming increasingly more graphically intensive

If you aren't that fussed on graphics and don't mind having it on very low settings this will do the job https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/lenovo-v130-core-i5-7200u-8gb-1tb-dvd-rw-15.6-inch-windows-10-laptop-81hn00fluk/version.asp

To be honest though i'd splash out and get the first one

I've got similar requirements to Db1990.  That first one might do the job for me.  I've not played FM for a while but would like the option to play it if I want to.  I can't do that on my current laptop.

Would that Acer one run it well?

Your suggestion is lighter and has a DVD drive but you compromise a lot of performance and graphics for that.

Get an external DVD ?

Hey guys, I’m not too savvy on how computers work but I was looking for a MacBook Pro 15inch that will be easily good enough, to run fm with a player database of around 50k/10 leagues, but also good enough to run Logic Pro. I don’t mind spending anywhere between 1000-2200  but cheaper is obviously better. Also where would you recommend buying it?

cheers

As usual.  The discount isn't as it seems so will have to have a rethink.  I did think it was too good to be true.

Hi Everyone,

Looking for a new laptop for FM19. Noticed my current laptop is going out of date and was running slow on FM18.

I'd like to spend around £600 but can go to £700 (Maybe £800 at max providing there is massive difference). Iv'e been reading through the thread and noticed these laptops below are recommended on my budget. Can anyone tell me which laptop would be best, or does anyone else have any other suggestions?

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.GP8EK.002-Acer-Aspire-7-A715-71G-53HF_2283341.html

Can anyone advise which one to buy or have anymore recommendations? @Smurf

I'm guessing the only difference of all 4 is the graphics card, is that right?

I normally play around 4 countries and around 10 divisions at max, would these laptops be ok for speed?

Look forward to hearing from everyone.

Also, I’ve heard that people have had major issues with it the SB2.

Only other 2 in 1 I can see is the Dell XPS15?

The surface book 2 apparently suffers from a bit of lag, according to Miles on twitter, sorry don't have exact link or details.

This is probably due to the U type processor coupled with a high end graphics card, causing bottle necks for the 3D matches.

Can't tell you any more than that.

How much are you willing to spend?

I'd be going for this https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/HN6-00003-Microsoft-Surface-Book-2_2258436.html

Although - you can go up to 512gb or 1tb storage for a lot of extra money.

Hello,

Thanks for getting back, it really has to be a 2 in 1 as I want to play in Tablet Mode, not laptop mode. I was considering the SB2 i7 16GB 512GB which is £2749, but obviously, the cheaper the better.

What would your thoughts be on the HP Spectre 360 15” or the Dell XPS 15” 2 in 1?

As I can’t see many other options to play FM on a tablet than them?

Unfortunately the link won’t work so not sure what device you’re suggesting.

Cheers

I've got one of these https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/laptops/matebook/

It runs pretty well but the graphics need to be on low settings and it does get a bit jittery after prolonged continuous use.  That said it is a thing of beauty and a pleasure to use it actually feels more premium than the Surface.  Only 600 grams too so goes nicely in my bag for my commute to work.

The original version which I have is hard to get hold of now but the released a Matebook E version a year or so later which by all accounts is even better

cheapest I could find (black version) - https://ao.com/product/53010bns-huawei-matebook-e-home-laptop-titanium-57757-251.aspx?WT.z_PT=Computing&WT.z_AT=Laptops&WT.z_BR=Huawei&WT.z_FT=Free Standing&WT.z_PC=53010BNS&WT.srch=1&WT.z_MT=Affiliate&WT.z_RTM=PHG&WT.srch=1&WT.z_MT=genieshopping&WT.z_RTM=PHG&WT.z_CN=1101l4683&WT.z_AG=PPC&WT.z_AT=&WT.z_KW=genieshopping

FWIW I run 12 leagues on full-fat FM and the processing is quick.

How would Ryzen 5 2400G perform in FM?

Graphics vise it looks like it runs some intense games with ease, but what about the CPU itself? How many leagues can one expect to run realistically?

It's comparable to 7th Gen i5 Cpu's so can run as many leagues as you like more or less.

if you check out the benchmarking thread here the Ryzen 5 1600 is performs slightly better than the i5 7400

How fast "fast" is for you though is subjective.  I'd say though that it will run most of Europe and Brazil and Agentina (a common setup) really well.

These Ryzen chips are looking like a compelling choice for people on a budget for FM who aren't too fussed on absolute maximum graphics settings.  You'll be saving a fortune on a graphics card.  I hope there are some Ryzen users on here who can let us know because i'm considering Ryzen for my next build

I don't know much about computers, but I'm surprised to hear that, since it's quite a bit cheaper. And the integrated graphics don't look half bad either, based on the reviews I've read, they're miles ahead of Intel's graphics. I thought that maybe the CPU itself was way worse because of that, but sounds like it should be a good budget pick for FM?
