I am looking for a new PC suitable for Football Manager and I have found one with a Intel i7 processor. I'm not sure if it's cheap (£649.98), and I am also not sure if it's specs are all that good (it's only dual core). So, I'm basically asking if this is up to par. I will likely be using it for FM and miscellaneous stuff.

Lenovo IdeaPad 320

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-7500U (DualCore 2.7 GHz)

8 GB RAM

256 GB SSD Harddrive

Intel HD Graphics

Will I grow frustrated from only having 2 cores? And how will I even be able to feel that during normal use?

No - it wouldn't be good for FM - this would be better

Correct me if I'm wrong, but any new laptop model that has a GeForce GTX 1050 seems to be very good to play FM for years to come?

A 1050 is good enough for FM, how long the remains to be the case as SI add more elements to the physics engine & animations is the unknown but that’s the same scenario with every component & is probably the least important factor unless you’re pushing the limits of a low end budget.

Completely agree with this by the way,the graphica card is the least of your worries when deciding a system in terms of FM.. any half decent dedicated card will ply the game at medium settings at a very decent rate... the 1050 is certainly in that catagory.

hey guys, looking to buy a new laptop right on time for FM 2019.. how about this one?https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078YMY5VZ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

is the CPU good enough? is 16 GB ram would be a major upgrade? thanks.

No.

Look for the i5 or i7 processor with the H mark.

That or the earlier processors in i5 or i7 HQ.

8gb is plenty - but nothing wrong with more

If you want to play 3D matches - a dedicated graphics card (personal opinion here) of 940M would be lowest, then 1050 2gb, then 1050ti 4gb. - as minimum.

You can of course go to 1060  - but after that it starts getting expensive with 1070 and 1080 models.

Don't get a graphics card with 1030.

well, after a long and tedious search, is H or HQ processor a must? it costs so much more...

I did link a couple of laptops on here but can't find the links now, anyway can you recommend me a good laptop for FM19. I'll have £900-£1,000 top spend, want to be able to process game speed quickly and run around 10 nations at a time. Also longevity is key as want this to last me a few years, really only going to be playing FM on it.

Cheers.

For laptops I wouldn't go any lower. They are the best processors when on a budget for laptops.

I wouldn't go to the lower bracket of U processors, or ultrathin mobile processors.

well then, how about this one?

well this CPU is of 7th generation, while the previous one I checked is of 8th generation, even though this one is HQ and the previous is U. I found conflicting opinions about which is better.

finding a laptop is confusing as hell that's for sure! :)

It certainly is confusing - the one you linked to is really good

This one has the 8th gen processor - but a slightly lower graphics card - which I think would be better than the you linked

https://www.amazon.com/8th-Gen-i5-8300H-GeForce-FireCuda-Windows/dp/B07BP9QG2J/ref=sr_1_13?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1536675684&sr=1-13&refinements=p_36%3A-75000%2Cp_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A2289793011|2289792011%2Cp_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A7817224011|13580790011%2Cp_n_feature_seven_browse-bin%3A3012497011%2Cp_n_intended_use_browse-bin%3A9647497011%2Cp_n_graphics_type_browse-bin%3A14292273011

However, maybe someone else here has their ideas on it too.

I got my MSI i7 H with 8th Gen now, as i said i had an i7 7th Gen MSI HQ before and a Lenovo i5U before that. I am playing 2017, and i have to say if someone asked me what machine is best , prices cinsidered for FM i would totally say get the i5, The 7th MSI gaming laptop is alrwdy very high end for this game but you can go so far. The 8th gen is totally too much and future proof is an illusion, FRom the basic game speed those three machines dont really differ that much and if you dont want to play FM , stream and have 4 other huge applications running just get the normal i5. FM is a game that would profit from a faster core processor number one to run the basic game , little seems to be able to hand to other cores so the technology that is better isnt much used for FM. If i had to decide again and strictly for the main purpose of FM a 7th gen i5 , even 6th would be totally good. Even i 3 i guess wouldnt be much of a downgrade, from there you pay a lot for rather little improvement in FM. Thats just my experience , surely subjetiv in some places too, but as i had 3 different machines in a very short time now i wanted to share it , especially for the guys that need to monitor cost/effect. The intel I processors in general are great though the basci processor crunches down the numbers for the main game great and they are a big improvement over former laptops. If you get a gaming PC the MSI were very good for me then...the cooling technology seems to really benefit the procezors. Sure my high end machine is now future proff, which doesnt mean a lot, because in 2-3 years even mine will be old again and if you can have -20 percent performance in FM for half the price now, still having a perfect fluent game and great fun why invest more really. You can invest the money again and  THEN buy the perfect machine atm again and not the top end one then , when mine will be also older again and not much in value anymore either.

For graphics card i can only say i dont know why this is a topic even, i cant imagine FM really ever using a alf decent GPU in full sclae in the end its a stadium with 22 players in it, can tell my FM is so badly programmed it uses top end resources to calculate that in a GPU. Just look at game slike Madden that have to show a photorealistic stadium and players in quality so far above FM, i cant see Si going a way where this will be a min part of the game in the future, so i guess basically any card you get with a modern system should be more than you ever need, you could even bargain shopping here, my i5 had an integrated card and it was easily enough, the newer procezorrs of intel even go a way where this integrated card gets better and better, its basically the graphics card for FM not high end but fully integrated and able to cope with games with 3 D environment that arent anything sepcial...its the FM-card and here you can totally go bargain hunting and have no extra GPU t all.

That in itself is a nice machine , what bothers me is that it basically costs as much as i paid for my i7 MSI 8th Gaming PC, dont know how prices are genral in the UK but it seems expensive. Also as i said you could easily get the 7th Generation if yu use it mostlly for Fm with not too much loss of Performance , it still is a fact that at 4 cores you are totally set as FM player and cant even imagine it will be a huge jumo with FM 19. So yeah if yu go i5U i would look for a cheaperoption and even see if i cant save massively with a 7th Gen. As i said no pro, just my 2 cents, and cant say i didnt  do the total unreasonable thing in the end :-)

Ok think I narrowed it down - by price...

Option 1 here is fine for FM and as good as the others in terms of what their processors offer and the same graphics cards.
However, price goes up depending on storage. Extra 20 for SSD (no impact for FM performance), then an additional extra for SSD and HDD.
If you want a lot of space then go for 1) 1TB first option, cheaper, if you fancy an SSD then 2) is fine, however, you may need external storage in the future. 3) For extra extra storage.

Category A
1 i5-7300HQ  - 8GB -  1TB HDD - GTX 1050 2GB - £579.97
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/ZX553VD-DM968T-ASUS-ZX553VD-DM968T-Gaming-Laptop_2145526.html

2 i5-7300HQ - 8GB - 256GB - GTX 1050 2GB - £599.97
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.GP8EK.003-Acer-Aspire-7-A715-71G-57YT_2156569.html

3 i5-7300HQ - 8gb - 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD - GTX 1050 2GB £649.97
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J962-2073-MSI-GL62M-7RDX-2073UK_2245212.html

Category B
The next two. 4 has more RAM however, no SSD - but in terms of FM no SSD is no big deal. More RAM is a definitely a nice idea, but can be added at any time by yourself in the future. But might suit you now for a cheaper laptop with more RAM and graphics card is ok for FM.

However, no. 5 has 4gb Graphics card - so if you want better graphics and an SSD for an extra 20 quid is a bit of a steal!

4 i5-8300H - 16GB - 1tb drive (non-ssd) - 10502gb Graphics Card - £699
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/FX504GD-DM040T-ASUS-FX504GD-DM040T-Gaming-Laptop_2392239.html

5 i5-8300H - 8GB - 256GB SSD / 1tB HDD 1050 4GB  £719.97
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/FX504GD-E4278T-ASUS-FX504GD-E4278T-Gaming-Laptop_2315681.html

Category C
Arguably the better of all of them - better processor, better graphics, and better processor.

6 i7-8750H - 8GB  -  256GB  -  GTX 1050 4GB - £799.97
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16JF31-021-MSI-Prestige-PE62-8RC-021UK_2323039.html

There are two with better graphics cards - price is 40 quid difference - however, no difference in specs - these fall in the Category A for processor performance - but better graphics.
Of the two - cheaper one obv.

i5-7300HQ - 8GB  - 256GB SSD -  1060 3gb -  £799.97
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/FX503VM-EN184T-ASUS-FX503VM-EN184T_2315679.html

i5-7300HQ - 8GB  - 256GB SSD -  1060 3gb -  £759.97

Hey @Smurf ! Would be great if you could help.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but is it possible to run FM with all nations and leagues on a Laptop and for it to run at a sensible playable speed?

Im in the market for a laptop with a max Budget of 1200.

Important features for me are build quality, fast, battery life, sharp display 15inch or above.

Any help would be really appreciated.

I posted a bunch yesterday - prices and all.

Yes - it's possible to run all the leauges and all the nations - but at a sensible speed, I doubt it. Not for 1200.

i7-8086K is the fastest processor in single core on the market and it's 500 quid on it's own.

i7-8700k is next

If you can find a laptop for 1200 quid with those

There's a list here https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

Here's another list of processors
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html

Find a laptop with a processor hosting the top 10 and you might be able to do what you want.

This has a good processor - if not old - 32gb RAM - and a 1070 graphics card - it's pretty damn good - if not a bit old

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/758-41-2633-T2-EVGA-SC17_2324712.html

Newer processor - good graphics card -

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/FX504GM-EN150T-ASUS-FX504GM-EN150T-Gaming-Laptop_2392223.html

This is pretty decent  - graphics card is decent but not the best for other games but great for FM.

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/SABRE-17G-V8-CF1-Gigabyte-Sabre-17G-v8-CF1_2360666.html

You really need to go up to the next price bracket of over £1500 to get the really fast processors.

You'd be looking at something like this and this is keeping it cheap:

Right been off the fm scene for 4 years now for 1 reason or another was part of the beta team for 4 years..but feel it's time to get back into fm so looking forward to fm19.. I'll be buying a new laptop price isn't really an issue but seen people buying laptops etc for over £1000 each to there own don't get me wrong but isn't that a bit over kill to spend just for fm ? My laptop back 4 year ago was worth £600 and played fm fine and it wasn't a gaming laptop or have the specs changed a lot in 4 years ?. As I say price not really a concern to me but I'll only be using new laptop for fm so can't see me spending anymore then £600.. I did see 1 smurf posted on saveonlaptops for about £579 which I think will do

Anyone got any 14" options?

It's going to be a business / work laptop as well as an FM one!

Can spend upto around £900. Perhaps a little more depending...

I'm skeptical recommending 14" laptops for FM as the hardware just isn't as good for FM copmared to going up by 1.6 inches to a 15.6 inch.

Note none of these 14" have a graphics card - so 3D matches on low detail - or no 3d matches at all.

Longer when running on battery - but cut that time in half playing FM while not plugged in - possibly
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/81BL0061UK-Lenovo-IdeaPad-520S_2353775.html

For £70 cheaper same laptop specs - slightly lesser battery - so playing unplugged would give a couple of hours - possibly
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.GQGEK.002-Acer-Swift-3-SF314-52-859M_2310910.html

This is cheaper again but the processor is an i5 not an i7 - not a huge deal for FM
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.GQGEK.004-Acer-Swift-3-SF314-52-581R_2278504.html

This is a lot more expensive - and the only difference I can see from the one above is the lenght of battery time when unplugged
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/20LS001AUK-Lenovo-ThinkPad-L480_2290763.html

This is probably on par with the other two above here
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/3UP50EAABU-HP-EliteBook-745-G5_2357511.html

If you went 15.6 inch you could get this with a good graphics card for playing matches in 3D

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/FX504GM-EN151T-ASUS-FX504GM-EN151T-Gaming-Laptop_2344468.html

Or this - with a slightly lesser graphics card - still play decent 3D on mid-high settings

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NH.Q24EK.007-Acer-Aspire-V-Nitro-VN7-593G-72G9_2101613.html

Or this a tiny step down in graphics card - mid settings

 https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16JF31-021-MSI-Prestige-PE62-8RC-021UK_2323039.html

Value for money is in the 15.6 inch - but if you must get a 14 inch - be warned the specs in them are built for portability - basic programmes and very little processing - FM is a processing heavy game - so the 14 inches probably won't be up to scratch for FM.

Much of a muchness. You can always add more ram later on - but you can't upgrade the processor.

i7 is better - and add more ram later in life.
