They used to be. I was in need for a laptop quick as my work laptop screen stopped working, the cable broke and I couldn't get it fixed quickly, so I went to buy one.

Here in Ireland, I went to about 4 different PC Worlds, as all the high end pcs on display were out of stock. It took a very good guy in onen of the stores to go beyond his duty and rummage in the warehouse to find some stock of the high end PCs.

Everyone will have different experiences with PC World - but I got a nice high end laptop and when the manager heard my story of visiting every store in a 50 mile radius, he gave me a  nice store discount, so got it even cheaper than I could get it online.

All in all - yes PC World can be ok.

But for your budget - I'd look at a custom build, like Overclockers or PC Specialist.

And get in touch with them both before committing to buying - as they can do more for you if you get in touch.

Hi all, I am looking to return to FM after a few years out. The last time I played was a good 4-5 years ago and therefore worried my laptop may no longer meet the requirements.

Apologies for my lack of technical knowledge but this is the best info I can provide at moment of my laptop:

Samsung Laptop
148GB Storage
2GB RAM
Processor intel R Pentium
Dual CPU T3200. 2.00 ghz
32 bit x 64
OS: Windows 10 Pro

According to FM site, 2GB RAM is a minimum, but after reading earlier comments on this thread it appears the game may struggle on this.

If the other specs are ok I could look into buying a higher RAM card.

Could anyone advise if the game would run ok on the above specs?

That's a good motherboard, especially for overclocking. Look into the i7-7700k or even the newer i7-8700K

This board can support the newer 8th gen processors.

Good luck with it - get in touch with the place you choose to build it to ensure you're picking compatible parts, like RAM and stuff like that, so you don't end up bottle necking your system.

There is meant to be an i7 9700k processor coming out soon.. , the i7 9700K would actually be an eight-core / eight-thread processor with a 3.6GHz base clock and 4.9GHz single core boost..  That would make  the i7 8700K as almost the superior chip, with its six cores and  a full 12 threads of processing goodness??

That's only rumour at the moment. There's also the i9-9900k in the rumour mill.

Neither are in circulation, and when they will be is as a good a guess as anyones.

I suspect they'd be priced quite highly too.

From previous suggestions posted before - best laptop for FM that I can find is roughly £600.

The processor is not up to scratch

An SSD will not be an improvement for FM. However, overall computer performance would be better. After moving to SSD I would never go back.

What's your budget?

Hi smurf my budget is around £400 so I'm a bit tight.

Is the AMD A12 really not up to scratch?

I did some research and it's base frequency is 2.7ghz and can go up to over 3ghz.I also thought perhaps the 4 cores might have helped as I have seen people online play intensive 3d games on it.

Would you perhaps then say something like the i5-7200u is better or any i3-7100u?

Would a graphics card be necessary?

Any recommendations will be very helpful.

Thanks smurf

Performance

The performance of the A12-9720P should be slightly faster than the A12-9700P (slower clocks). Compared to Intel CPUs, the CPU is most comparable to Skylake Core i3 CPUs. Our first test sample however performt a bit worse than an average A12-9700P and on par with a i3-5010U (multi-core) and i3-4010U (single-core). Due to the TDP limitation, the performance of the A12-9720P will drop significantly under sustained workloads.

To put it into perspective, an i3 processor is not suitable for FM - neither is a processor with the suffix U.

Last line in bold - FM is extremely processor heavy - so the A1-9720P is a classic example of a processor speed that looks good on paper - but suffers significantly under workload.

You can go by this list for processors - and if it's not in the top 150 then I wouldn't touch them for FM.

To be honest, I'd limit it to the top 100.

What are your views on Ram? Iv just read ddr3 can be better than ddr4 and is cheaper..   I was checking

32Gb trident ddr4 3000 MHz and

32Gb Corsair vengeance 3466 MHz

both around and upto £400 on Amazon..

I liked the following bundle but am I right in thinking it comes with 32Gb of DDR3 and not DDR4?

Not for £400, unfortunately, I don't think it's fair to recommend something to you that won't work. £400 is a lot of money.

It wouldn't be fair on you.

However, here's what to look for

Processor:
i5 or i7, 6th or 7th generation, HQ

Example: i5 6xxxHQ / i7 6xxxHQ OR  i5 7xxxHQ / i7 7xxxHQ

RAM:
8gb or more

If you find something post it here and I'll take a look before you commit.

The deal on offer is anyone of these, the cheapest comes with no ram but the others are offering various GB upto 32 for the most expensive,  so I could buy the cheap option for £700 and then buy any ram to go with it?

If you go with no RAM - then I recommend the 2 I posted there - there's a cheaper version and a more expensive one. I'd recommend the more expensive one if you can.

I can't see what the bundles in the image are offering, so hard to advise.

They are basically the mother board and cpu with or without the ram.  I’m just doing a price comparison on overclockers to see if they can beat the price..

Is this 40th anniversary cpu better than the other i7 8700k

This little lot from overclockers comes in at £879 so think it’s far cheaper than what Amazon are offering unless Iv missed something off but seems exactly the same components offers from Amazon..?

The best I'm finding at my budget is a i5-7200U. The Base frequency is 2.5ghz?

The absolute stretch that I could find is a i7-7500u with a 2.7ghz Base frequency?

There's also an amd fx-9830p

Here are the laptop links let me know your opinion on each one.

Will the main ones (England, Germany, Spain, France and Italy) be able to run?

On estimate how many do you think?

Hi Guys, possibly looking at getting a new laptop.......well, a 2nd hand one, as the one i currently have wont run FM 19 (i5 3337U - 1.8Ghz)

What is the cheapest processor that can run FM comfortably? Im not expecting a beast top range one, i dont expect to have 30 leagues running but i would like to have a large database size with a decent amount of players.

I understand the differences in processors etc and im not a newbie with computers/laptops but just not sure how far down i can go with processors i.e. i5 3xxx or 4xxx range or i7 3xxx or 4xxx range?

Not going to have much to spend hence buying 2nd hand which im absolutely fine with.

Dont expect blistering speed but something that doesnt send me mad waiting for it to process would be great!

Thank you very much in advance, appreciate the work you guys put in to answering peoples queries on here. Thought i could give FM up but clearly the addiction is stronger than i thought

You'd prob be ok with those running -but it's impossible to say. As some people play 5 seasons and start over, and some play 100 seasons and start over. And the answer would be incredibly different for each scenario.

You may have to make peace with having only 2 tiers or 1 tier in some divisions.

But you can try them out for yourself in different combos.

Small. Very small lol hence why im buying used, which is fine. We're talking £250 max. I know what you are going to say, thats impossible lol but ive seen lots of laptops about with 2.3GHz i5-5300U for example but just not sure that would hack it.

Same with i5 3 and 4 gen processors, plenty about in my price range, easily so, but could they cope? Not fussed in slightest about 3d graphics or an ssd. 8gb ram min seesm normal these days anyway so thats fine.

Not impossible. But I'm not comfy suggesting in that price range, as it's not fair to you if you get a dud.

I posted above something similiar on what specs to go for.

Hi flogside,

is it possible you can save for couple months until the FM19 is released thus giving you bigger budget to spend?

Im in same position currently but aim to save 2k by November to build a high end pc. If I was to buy one now I’d be looking at £500.99 max 😳

Simply put, i7's are better than i5's and i5's are better than i3s.

The i7 is more powerful, because of a few reasons - number of cores, clock speed, size of cache, Turbo Boost and Hyper-Threading.

It's a combination of all these things that make a processor more powerful.

There are extremely good i5 processors which would be good for FM - and extremely poor i7s that would not be suitable for FM.

There's a lot of factors that go into it.

Typically - I aim for the folks here at anything in the i5 or the i7 range - that has the letters HQ after the processor number

But do post here before buying and we can take a look for you.

Do you have a budget in mind?

And if buying a desktop - do you have a monitor?

Will be looking at £500-600 budget.

Leaning towards laptop now. Just want it for FM and everyday use and maybe some streaming. Also capable of playing the next few versions of FM comfortably.

Hi Smurf,

Looking for a new laptop for FM. I watch in 2D so not fussed on graphics, but I am looking for a good processor for multiple countries (minimum 5 leagues and 12 divisions) and large database to get through many seasons on one save at a fast pace.

Within my budget (Max £1000) I seem to have narrowed the processors down to i7-8550U & i7-7700HQ. I understand the HQ will be better but how much of a difference will it make for the game settings I use? I'm tempted for the U processor as they tend to be in smaller, lighter laptops (as I play quite a bit when travelling). I have listed a few examples below. Please let me know your thoughts or if you have any recommendations?

Hello mate. To be honest im not fussed enough to save for a new laptop just for FM. Gone are those days lol Hence why i was hoping i could pick one up on the cheap that could handle it. Probably going to go back to an older version with a new update and see if laptop can handle that! One before all the 3d rubbish ;)

What kind of PC would I need.Any tips for specs to looks for or recommendations will be really helpful.

Currently looking at a Dell G5 15

CPU: i7-8750H

GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060

16GB RAM

Coming in around €1400 but just missed a Dell discount to get it with 12% so might hold off.

Anything else better for similar money?

Do you reckon its better than the Dell? I don't mind spending up to €1500. My only concern with that one is I'd rather a 256GB + 1TB hybrid option

I wouldn't hold off any longer. I can't find anything better.

Besides the one I posted. I know the hard drive is smaller but swapping that for a larger one at a different date is definitely viable and easy enough to do.

You could also go external storage in the interim.

But I cannot find anything better.

Hi all

Any thoughts on this? Best laptop for high spec processor? Not bothered about good graphics. Hoping to spend about £800 but could push to £1000.

Cheers

The medion one is the better one - but I wouldn't go for that - I'd go for this, reason being, as far as I know the build quality on the casing of the medion is flimsy from what I know.

This one linked below is very good.
