I missed out on the ASUS N56VZ before it was moved along for the newer models. I was not impressed with the newer N56VJ because of the graphics card and slow HDD so I ended up ordering this instead: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/896185-REG/MSI_ge60_0nd_257us_Intel_i7_3630QM_8GB_RAM_750GB_HD_Windows.html

If anyone is interested I'll come and give some feedback after it arrives. I'm planning to take advantage of the inbuilt mSATA slot and install a 128GB SSD into the machine. I'm planning to use this as my primary computer for the next few years, hopefully it will work out that way. If I get 3 years I'll be very happy.

I think I'm going to purchase the Lenovo on Boxing Day.

This may be a stupid question should I get Norton or are there other anti-virus that are better? Do any of them slow down the processing of FM.

NOOOO stay away from norton...

I like the easy free combo of AVG and Malwarebytes.... works a treat. and no silly £100 subscription fee's

I disagree tbh. Yes, maybe the older versions of Norton were poor/system resource hogs but the 2012 version was very good imo and the 2013 one is seemingly even better.

any i5 will run the game flawlessly as stated many times.

Yeah sorry I know it has been stated many times that an i5 will run the game flawlessly but I thought there were other aspects to consider, namely the graphics card (eg integrated or external), RAM, etc?

it has a little better inbuild graphic, but the intels are superior in any other aspect, go with the i5

Just had chance to check this. This is the laptop I ended up getting http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-g6-2213sa-laptop-red-18093449-pdt.html.

Is it any good? I might just change it for an i5 one then.

I couldn't justify the extra £100 for the Lenovo i7 one.

heres a list of every common laptop cpu atm http://www.cpubenchmark.net/laptop.html

the more points the better, all the intel cpu's got good enough inbuild graphics to play the game, it really comes down to how big your database is you want to play with, the bigger, the database, the better cpu you should get

i can give you an example, i play with a 1400 points cpu and a 15 000 database, and the gamespeed is 2,5 stars~

so if you want a bigger database, you should pick a i5, else the AMD is good enough

Sorry to ask again but looking to make a purchase and would like to make sure that i will be able to continue playing fm13.

Any comments about the suitability would be really helpful: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/asus-vivobook-s200e-c158h-11-6-touchscreen-laptop-dark-grey-18893085-pdt.html

Many thanks for any help

There is this one for similar price http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-series-5-550p5c-15-6-laptop-silver-17056548-pdt.html

and by going from what I've read it should be decent for FM.

Many thanks for the reply. I was looking at the laptop mentioned for the portability factor and also the touchscreen (i know not relevant for fm). Would the Asus s200 be okay to run fm13. Any replies would be really helpful as looking to buy today but worst nightmare would be fm13 not working

Having looked through this thread and seen all the Acer ones that they have in stock. I have narrowed it down to these four;

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5755G_1175154.html

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5755G_1152340.html#DetailTop

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5755G_1152339.html

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_V3-571G_1209283.html

So which one is better? I'm not that good with technical things, so I'd say that 2 and four are the better ones. I'll just be using it for FM really and the prices aren't too bad. Obviously, if you've seen a really really good Acer one that would be able to run a fair few leagues and players(100k or so) well into the future that would help as well.

Thanks.

its basically 3 times the same laptop, with just either 6gb ram and dvd writer, or 8gb ram and bluray... if you need bluray take the bluray... if not get the 6gb with dvd.. theres no difference between 6 or 8gb

the the i7 are obviously better than the i5

I'm looking to get more of a notebook than a laptop that would still be capable of FM on decent settings - I'm currently looking at the Lenovo U410 with an i5, which I'm sure would manage to some degree, but I wondered on what settings would I probably need to play it on/how much of a sacrifice would I need to make compared to a larger laptop? e.g. would I be able to use the 3d graphics on a decent setting? It also seems to have a dedicated graphics card, which should help.

Spec:

Graphics card NVIDIA® GeForce® 610M

Thanks

thats the funniest specs ive ever seen, why did they put a 610M graphic card in there, when the inbuild cpu graphic card is 3 times better?

More than good enough mate :)

that is if it's a quad core processor which i assume it is.

What is it like running FM13 mate? Are you running the 3D at all?

It's quite good mate wasn't sure what to expect. Not quite as quick as my desktop which is couple your old but only slightly slower not enough to bother me,I'm running quite a few leagues/countries on an old save in FM12 too.

It plays 3d but I don't know how good the quality is as I rarely watch it and set it down to the low settings instantly.

Hi,

Can someone please advise me on how to maximise this system's performance?

AMD Quad core processor, 2GHZ

3GB RAM

64-bit OS

Can't remember what graphics card it is, but something like Radeon 5000.

Laptop is a couple of yrs old, just wondering how many leagues and players it would support, IF I add another 2GB ram, and give the laptop a general clean-up etc. Also how to maximise performance.

Adding more ram is about the height of it - you should be aiming for 8gb ram - but it won't speed up performance of Football manager, just the general running of your computer as more the more RAM you have the better it should be at having different programs open at the same time.

The only other thing you could do is download CCleaner and do a clean up - there's online tutorials on what to do with CCleaner.

Hmm, from the reviews I've read they felt that having the extra dedicated graphics card did improve performance.

Anyway, thanks, but that doesn't help me to determine how good this would be at handling FM on decent settings...

I followed this thread for a while and ended up buying the Acer Aspire 5755G (6GB i7-2670QM) that was suggested early on in the thread. I've had it for about a month, and am absolutely delighted with it, so just wanted to say a belated thank you to Welshace and Eugene Tyson for their excellent input.
