I ordered this yesterday for this price, then today the price shot up by £200, I like to think I got a decent deal at just the right time.

Hoping it plays FM at a decent enough pace.

Looks good

Does adding logos and face packs slow down performance?

Not in general. When you first load them it will take some time, but after it, FM is using the cache, so it does not have to be loaded again and again.

would this one run it fine? The 4GB ram worries me is that too small?

The laptop I mentioned earlier showed up, an hour later I've had to switch it off and back on twice due to it completely crashing on me.

I'm hoping laptops just take a while before settling in terms of processing. If not it's going back.

Oh dear. Don’t blame me. :stop:

Hope it gets better.

PS how’s the weight and battery life?

I can't get far enough to see without the whole thing freaking out on me.

I've been looking at "installing steam update" for the last 45 minutes.

Head over to the technical support - could be a range of things from anti virus to firewall to drivers etc.

Hi there,

Am looking at spending between £300-£400, sole purpose of laptop is for FM18.

Please could anyone help/ suggest a few ideas for me?

Or state what key features of the laptop I should be looking out for?

Cheers!

No - stay away from processors ending in U - stick to i5 or i7 and no "U" at the end.

I don't think you'll find anything new - perhaps refurbished.

£890 at the check out when bundled with VR headset. Good  value for money you think  @Smurf?

Looks good. Don't see anything else with same specs for less. Good find.

I've checked the ad and it says No SSD Storage included and no optical hard drive. As a technophobe I have to ask, are these items necessary, if so what and where should I buy them?

Why don't you try out the demo?

I'm currently playing FM18 from my work desktop buddy (self employed, it's allowed..)

I don't actually have the laptop yet as I purchased it online.

It should run well on that computer, but there are some issues with nvidia graphics cards, so you have to wait and see.

Hi all,

Firstly thanks to all and especially @Smurf for all the advice on this thread, I have certainly avoided a bad purchase thanks to it.

From everyone's posts, I have narrowed my selection down to the following:

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/80RU00EGUK-Lenovo-Ideapad-700_2207197.html#DetailTop

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J562-1673-MSI-GL62-7QF-1673UK_2066567.html

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.G66EK.004-Acer-Aspire-V15-in-Black_2095447.html

I think the main variances between the 3 are i5 vs i7 and then SSD vs HDD (although I don't know if this plays much of a part on actual gameplay - I have portable storage for films etc so no need for lots of space). They all claim dedicated graphics also, but I'm clueless in trying to compare them. Ideally, I would like to run 3D matches on at least low-medium graphics.

Would be greatly appreciated if anyone can advise on the above 3 options? Or, if anyone can recommend anything else within the £600-£650 range: really looking for a 3-5 year laptop for FM, and watching films, streaming etc. (Could potentially stretch to £700).

Thanks,

Kev

Why Mac? They are so expensive for a shiny box - you can put together a much better spec'd machine on PC Specialist for half the price.

Can anyone reccomend a decent one under £500? All the ones i come accross seem to be i5s that end in a U.

Probably not at 500 - unless 2nd hand or refurbished.

Thanks @Smurf - I assume the lack of SSD isn't too big a deal?

No - and you wouldn't notice unless you had a ssd already.

However, upgrading to an SSD is simple enough and cheap to do at a later stage.

I've been reading this thread since FM17 came out a year ago but still not pulled the trigger and bought a laptop. Not played since '15 and no idea what I'm buying so don't want to spend money and end up with a slow performing machine. Willing to spend up to £750-850 and only want it to play FM as quickly and smoothly as possible. Any recommendations?

Hi there,

Does this seem reasonable for the price? Or is there better out there?

All processors at this price have U at the end, is this to be expected?

Seems you need to move to the 650 bracket

Hey smurf the zx553 is getting some bad reviews, albeit on ebuyer, but it’s leaving me a bit sceptical, any other laptops in that price range? Think I will give the Mac a miss then, and the desktop, will look for a laptop

Can anyone tell me good monitors on amazon between £100-180 that will plug in to my graphics card?

You should be able to buy an adapater - without knowing exactly what cables and ports you have it's hard to know.

Yes I've the read the reviews, and a very worrying one from an IT Specialist who said that by the look of the picture it had an optical drive, however, it states it does not have an optical drive - concerns me as how much of a specilaist is this IT person who can't read the specs of a computer they are buying???

I once read a review for a hotel by a lake by a person who visited in winter at 8pm could not see the lake because it was too dark  - and the next day it was shrouded in fog...

Hey Smurf,

Im trying to run a large database for FM. As of right now im getting about 35,000 players. Im trying to get up to at least 75,000. My laptops spec is an Intel Core i3-3110m CPU 2.40GHz 6GB RAM 64- bit operating system. I get 3 stars for game speed. What do you suggested i upgrade to increase the number of players and game speed? Do i need more RAM or a faster PC? Also, I dont play on 3d graphics so this is something i dont need. Thank you.

Better PC is all you can do. It's unlikely that you can replace the Processor.

Better processor is the way forward.

My Monitor is a VGA cable & my Graphics card must be a DVI? It has 24 holes in it 3 lines of 8.
