If you are buying from the US check to make sure you are not subject to customs fee's before delivery. this can add a couple of hundred onto a price

I am buying from a norwegian site (where I live), but thanks for the heads-up :) The norwegian krone is quite weak compared with other currency, which means that computers are a bit pricey nowadays, but if my mates spend 800 pounds on a mobile-phone, I see no harm spending a bit more on a solid computer that will last me a long time.

Need help with a new laptop purchase. I live in the states. Want to be able to run FM 18 with everything selected and large database, and it run quick and smooth if possible.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

Budget: $1,000 but could go $1,200 at most, cheaper if possible.

Want one with a 17’ screen, backlit keyboard.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Has anyone tried running 3d on just 128 mb vram? Last years version said it required 256mb but I was able to run 3d on the lowest settings just fine. Hoping for the same this year.

Hi Smurf, I found this on save on laptops,https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/80RU00EGUK-Lenovo-Ideapad-700_2207197.html#DetailTop

Seems  like a good price for an I7.

Yeh it's good - but this might be better https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.G66EK.004-Acer-Aspire-V15-in-Black_2095447.html

Hey smurf I just ordered a GT 710 2GD3H with 2gb memory. Could this give me max settings on 3d? I also have 6 gb ram, i5 2320. Or what kind of performance should I expect with this card?

Ideally you’ll want someone who has played the beta with a similar spec’d card to add their feedback however my expectation based on what has been posted in regards to the increased focus on the graphics engine is that good performance will top out at a setting of low.

Hi, just had this passed down as my work laptop, will it run FM 18?

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/microsoft-surface-pro-128-gb-10165043-pdt.html

Thanks!

Wouldn't count on it.

Performance

Minimum spec for FM is 2.2ghz.

This falls outside that.

Hi guys, I am looking for a new laptop to play FM18 on.

I'm looking for 17inch screen and a laptop capable of comfortably running multiple leagues and a large database, with 3d match graphics.

I don't really play other games so FM would be the main use.

I have had a browse online and have came across the below. Do these look ok for my requirements above?

https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/hp-17-a10-9620p-quad-8gb-1tb-17.3-inch-dvd-rw-windows-10-home-laptop-2cp34ea/version.asp

I'm not very tech savvy so any recommendations would be appreciated. Maximum budget is 800 GBP.

thanks

I think they're all 15 inch screens - not sure what your preference is.

If you want to look for yourself.

Processor - key is speed - avoid anything with "U" most processors in this range end in "HQ" which are better.

RAM - 8gb minimum.

Graphics card -  in this range - anything from 940m, 950m, 960m, 970m, 980m, 1050 2gb, 1050Ti

Pretty much you have a  lot of choices.

Amazon is a weird site - and throws some random "New" computers in that are just awful.

Anyway - if you think you find something good post a link and I'll take a look.

I'll be happy to check them out.

Thank you, I’ll check them out. Really want a 17’ screen. I’ll find a few and send them to you. I found a few I like, love the Alienware. But it’s expensive. And I’m really only going to play FM on this laptop.

I am looking to buy a new laptop for FM18.

I was thinking the MacBook Air: https://m.johnlewis.com/2017-apple-macbook-air-13-3-inch-intel-core-i5-8gb-ram-128gb-pcie-based-ssd/p3081001

Is the i5 good enough? If not, if someone has a recommendation for a similar price (can’t go above 900) I’d be incredibly grateful.

I travel a lot for work which is why the air appeals - need a lightweight laptop

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't be able to tell you as Macs don't specify what type of processor is in the Macbook - it just says it's i5 or i7 - which makes it impossible to tell, as there's various models for each one, so it depends on what type of i5 or i7 processor is in the Macbook.

It's overpriced for what it is - but it should run FM ok - I don't play on a Macbook air 13 inch - but there have been reports of overheating.

If you can't go over 900 then this bad boy is better than any mac book

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-14A112-090-MSI-GS40-6QE(Phantom)-090UK_1945621.html

Although the battery life is pretty terrible (battery last about 2-3 hours unplugged - but plugged in would be great)

This is same price as the MacBook and it's better

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/80W30036UK-Lenovo-Ideapad-710S-Plus_2103909.html

This has 6-7 hours of unplugged use (severely less for FM).

Not trying to put you off a Mac - I'm sure you have perfectly good reasons for it - I just don't think they are designed for the intense processing that FM demands.

My current HP laptop (about 8 years old) will only run 3D on the absolute lowest settings- looks like something from the old Nintendo consoles. So I'm looking for a new laptop, somewhere in the $700-900 range. Found this one at the nearby Best Buy, and I'm thinking it should run FM18 pretty well.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-inspiron-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-256gb-solid-state-drive-black/5872507.p?skuId=5872507

Any thoughts/reviews much appreciated! I usually play with 25-30 leagues on FM Touch.

You asked for the best for £700 that's what I recommended.

The one for £650 is not better.

How about this Smurf? (First link). The other two you recommended look great, I'd go for the smaller screen but it's not in stock. Am I right in thinking this one is pretty much the same but in stock? I also came across the other one (second link). It’s about £100 less, would you say the ones you suggested were well worth the extra £100 or is there not much in it?

Defo the 1st one. However, check out the battery - it only lasts 3-4 hours unplugged (significantly less with FM)

If you're ok with that then it's all good. If you're going to have it mostly plugged in it's fine.

hi @Smurf, does CPU or GPU matter more?

i'm intending to get a 13.3" (for ease of portability) with i7 8th gen CPU. GPU will be the new NVIDIA GeForce MX150.

or,

should i forgo GeForce MX150 and just go for GeForce 940MX or even just go for the integrated Intel UHD620?

I wouldn't stand over any of them.

Although the battery life is pretty terrible (battery last about 2-3 hours unplugged - but plugged in would be great)

This is same price as the MacBook and it's better

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/80W30036UK-Lenovo-Ideapad-710S-Plus_2103909.html

This has 6-7 hours of unplugged use (severely less for FM).

Not trying to put you off a Mac - I'm sure you have perfectly good reasons for it - I just don't think they are designed for the intense processing that FM demands.

I can't buy that MSI, this site dont send PC to Italy.Any suggestions?

Hi Smurf

Thanks for all of your help so far... one last question hopefully. My mate has recommended this one, what do you think.

Well my Italian is a little rusty to navigate the Amazon site... in fact the only words I know in Italian is Pasta and Pizza!

Look for a i5 or i7 processor that has a HQ on the end (not a U) not sure if these letters change when in Italian?

8gb RAM - minimum

Make sure it has a dedicated graphics card if you want to play on 3D with high quality.

Post links of any you may find!

I am looking to purchase one of these today! I am pretty excited about my decision to go with Alienware. I will use it to play Football Manager, Civilization, and similar games. My wife will use it to play Diablo and Starcraft and similar games. We have saved for this purchase and we picked Alienware because we love the look, options, customizable options, and build. And we want one that will play the type of games we like for a few years. I am not sure which model to go with. The only difference between the 2 is the screen I think. Can you all give me some feedback and suggestions? Also, if you think I should go with a different model for what we need it for, please send me suggestions. Here are the 2 I am looking at right now:
