The i3-4005U is a 1.7ghz processor - and FM requires 2.2ghz.

The answer is basically  no.

Oh my, I am in a spot now. Thought about starting this series after 4-5 years ! Why do the online scanners tell me that the game will work?

Minimum: 2.2 GHz+You Have: 1.7 GHz Performance Rated at: 4.42 GHz

Minimum: Intel Pentium 4 Intel Core AMD Athlon 2.2 GHz+You Have: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4005U CPU @ 1.70GHz

These results show this and it shows that it passes the minimum requirements. I do think mine is a quad core processor if that makes a difference. Sorry I am not a well versed in this topic so just needed some pointers.

I have no idea why sites show this. FM is different to other games, in that it's processor intensive - that's probably why "gaming sites" tell you it will work, but it most likely won't.

Ok, I just tried searching for an answer around the same. Most of the answer said that the 4.42 GHz is a relative number to an Intel Pentium 4 processor. My best guess on this topic would be that since the Intel Pentium 4 is a single core and my chip seems to be 2 cores, maybe that is why it is faster than the Pentium?

Hi Smurf,

Do you think that this laptop would give a decent performance? I play only on commentary, usually only 4-5 leagues.

https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/acer-swift-3-14-laptop-silver-intel-core-i5-7200u-256gb-ssd-8gb-ram-windows-10-open-box/11280934.aspx?

My main concern is that it is 2.5, I5-7200u. However, I need something lightweight with a solid battery life for other things.

Thanks!!

I don't see much else on offer on the site - for what you want from FM - then it should be ok. I reckon it might start slowing up 7-12 seasons in (approx.)

Hello, looking at getting a new laptop as mine is getting a bit slow, long in the tooth

I usually upload 7-10 leagues (usually all the English then Spanish, german) I play as many seasons as I can however it usually comes back with 2* of proformance sometimes even less.

I also upload kits and logos for the FM interface

my budget is £500-£600 max in the United Kingdom.

Currently using the Lenovo z50-75. Thanks In Advance

Because they're overpriced in the shop - I've often been in PC World and check out laptops for the fun of it, and often see the worst laptop priced the highest.

And I'm sure that's not the same everywhere, it's just my experience.

Fair enough. Rubbish with all this tech stuff.

How would this run FM?

Hi everyone, I'm looking to get a new laptop for FM, the main use of the laptop will be FM.

my budget is around 600£ and my main need is as much high processing ability as possible.

I don't really mind about screen size, battery life or graphics (I do play 3D but the quality isn't an issue for me such as the processing)

I know the budget isn't high, but I really hope I could find one that will run it smoothly.

Also, if there's a chance for laptops that are being sold on Amazon, due to the fact I'm living at the us.

Thanks ahed!

This is pretty good - but the hard drive space is quite small

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J562-1673-MSI-GL62-7QF-1673UK_2066567.html

You can get an external drive or flash drive -or you can swap out the drive for a larger one down the line.

It's the same issue as the one above that I spoke about. Hard drive is quite small and would require a external or flash drive, or replace the hard drive altogether.

The one I posted above is better than this Mac - and it's half the price.

Ok,

I'm moving away from the idea of a 'gaming' laptop on the basis that they're expensive, hot and heavy and the ones in my budget have awful screens. Probably overkill for FM and I wont really used it for any other games.

I figured 'Ultrabooks' would be ideal but didn't think they were powerful enough, however I came across this bad boy.

https://www3.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/ideapad/700-series/Lenovo-IdeaPad-720-15IKB/p/88IP7000910

Cant find a review for this anywhere, just his baby brother the 720s which gets good reviews.

It an i7 7500u CPU which I know is not a powerhouse but very energy/heat efficient.

It includes the RX560 mobile GPU which i'm not familiar with but I suspect it offers performance a bit lower that the GTX 1050.

Snappy SSD and vibrant screen which is big plus for me.

Anyone any thoughts?

The i7 7500U isn't very powrful - however, it should be fine under a few leauges loaded, and medium database.

You could chance adding in a few extra leagues and a larger database - but then over time within the game (say 10 seasons in) you may notice a bit of a slowdown.

Depending on what you're doing.. it should be ok.

The RX560 is a mid range graphics card, suitable for FM, if it's a bit jumpy, update your graphics driver first, then try to move the settings down a bit each time until satisfied.

I can't find any other light weight options out there - well I found 1 but it had not graphics card - so in theory I found none.

Hi guys

I'm planning to buy a new laptop before November :D

I can have a discount in France on this model

https://us-store.acer.com/laptops/gaming/predator-helios-300-gaming-laptop-ph317-51-7578

Graphic wise i know it will be more than enough

But will I be able to run a decent amount of leagues (at least 8 ) with large DB ?

thx for your time !

Laptops of the week: Just my personal opinion - be sure to read all about them, ask questions, research them thoroughly etc.

Under 550

None have a graphics card - meaning that 3D matches would require low settings, or play in 2D

Getting better as we down for 1-3

  1. https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/X541UA-XX202T-ASUS-X541UA-XX202T_2059132.html

  3. https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/2EW11ESABU-HP 250 G5_2233248.html

550 to 700

Most come with a graphics card - so ideal for 3D matches - if you don't play 3D then you can just not

This is very good - however, the hard drive is quite small, would require a flash drive/external drive or to replace the hard drive at a later date.

This is the same model as above - however, it has the added storage which you would need.

  1. https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J562-1673-MSI-GL62-7QF-1673UK_2080715.html £699.97

Moving on:

This is slightly below the specs of the ones above (only slightly!)  - however, it has much more storage space - and it's nearly on par with what's on offer above. Definitely worth it for more space! The price is in the middle of the two above!

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.G66EK.004-Acer-Aspire-V15-in-Black_2095447.html £649.97

Wasn't really paying attention to screen size - if you see something and the screen size is not right let me know and I'll take a look

In general - watch yourself on the MSI laptops - apparently the battery life isn't great - if you need to play on the move away from a power source - check out the battery information for the laptop of your choice - whether it's MSI or not. If unsure, just ask, and I'll try to find out.

If you want to use another website - let me know and I'll take a look - I'm only using SaveonLaptops for ease of use.

I might switch to another one for a while though.

HELLO SMURF

would this laptop hold hold files like jpeg, doc, HTML docs I'm not knowledgeable about SSD drives just thinking as I download files for fm

It will hold all file types. It's just that it's only 128 gb.

Windows 10 requires 20-30gb of space.  That leaves you with abou t 100gb of space.

Then FM will take up (including saved games - possibly 10gb)

Leaves you with 90gb for other apps and storage.

Could I get some advice for a laptop?

I'm looking for a convertible laptop that is capable of being able to play FM with say 10 leagues running on a medium database for a good couple of seasons without slowdown but also functions as a tablet when I want to use it in bed or around the house in general. Not hugely fussed on 3D matches. Budget wise I'm flexible - cheers :)

Good list Smurf.

Might I add the new Lenovo Y520.

I7-7700hq, Max Q gtx 1060. Decent IPS screen. SSD + HHD

£899

Stonking deal for that hardware. OP for FM but will handle any games 1080p High/Ultra.

Reviews of earlier version generally good.

Can only find one polish review of the Max Q update but they are designed to be cool and quiet and that review certainly bares that out

I wouldn't recommend the i3 processors for football manager. And 4 GB of ram is a bit low. Consider upgrading the ram.

With no graphics card then playing football manner in 3d would be a struggles on any thing but low settings.

Remember

Processor - requires 2.2ghz or higher at base speed (the better the processor the better the performance for FM)

RAM - minimum 8gb

Graphics card - mid to high end for 3D matches -  if you aren't that bothered by 3D matches, then consider using a low-end graphics card - that way you should have more money towards a better processor.

Looking to get a cheap laptop for football manager as my old one broke. Was looking at the LENOVO MIIX 310 10.1" 2 in 1, can anyone tell me is this sufficient to run football manager smoothly? WIll I be able to use maximum graphics and so on? If not could someone recommend another cheap laptop that would be capable?

What specs is the Lenovo MIIX 310 10.inch 2 in 1?

What's smoothly for you in FM - how many leagues/divisions/database size etc?

For maximum graphics you would require a good graphics card - which isn't cheap.

What's cheap to you? What's your budget?

Hi Guys,

I want to upgrade my laptop for the next release of FM, I do a lot of long haul flights and and am struggling to find a decent laptop which will run the game but also with a huge battery life.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Budget £600-£800 Could stretch a little more

Battery life is a must!

Thanks!

Hey everyone.

I'm looking for a new computer these days and have found a couple of options.

Nr. 1 - https://shopineer.com/laptops/Dell-XPS9560-7001SLV-PUS-15-6-Laptop-7th-Gen-Core-i7

Nr. 2 - https://shopineer.com/laptops/HP-Spectre-x360-Convertible-Laptop-15t-touch-1WB97AV-1

Nr. 3 - Wait for the new Lenovo Yoga 920

Nr. 4 - https://shopineer.com/laptops/ASUS-UX550VE-DB71T-ZenBook-15-6-Nano-Edge-FHD-Touch-Laptop-Core

What I'm thinking about is it worth it to shell out about 500$ more for the Dell Xps 15 or Asus UX550VE instead of the newly refurbished HP Spectre which has the new 8th generation processor.

This is pretty good - battery is given at 7-8 hours with power management.

However, FM is a processor intensive beast, so the power will be shorter, in general for any laptop.

You could perhaps buy a spare battery... that way you can swap out the battery mid-flight... not sure how that would look though in terms of in-flight security!

1st or last one is th ebetter option.

The 8th gen processor has a base speed of 1.8ghz - and FM requires 2.2ghz.

I wouldn't touch it for FM.

You could be talking up to 10,000 for a laptop that will run everything - or you could spend 800 to play it - or 2000 or whatever. Is maximum graphics worth it? You tell me.

It's impossible to know exactly - there's a lot of variables. And then "run the game at a decent level" is subjective from person to person. For someone 5 seconds per day is slow and for another it's superfast.

All I'd say is stick with i5 processors at least - or an i7. Ensure it's base speed is over 2.2ghz.

8gb RAM Minimum

Mid-High end graphics card for 3D matches - if you're not bothered with 3D then you don't need it.  If you want to cut back on 3D detail level, then a low end graphics card would be fine.

Then whatever you can afford.
