New Laptop/PC- Help Needed

Looks like the more expensive one has an additional 1TB drive -which is handy for storage.

256gb is loads of space for FM and Windows - if you wanted to go the cheaper laptop - then later on you can buy an external drive to store music/movies on.

Or go for the more expensive one and keep all your stuff on the laptop.

This one is slightly cheaper https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J942-011-MSI-GP62-7RD(Leopard)-011UK_2066572.html - however, there are some concerns over battery life in the MSI - meaning having it plugged in is recommended.

Either you found is more than enough for FM.

Cheers for the reply! Went for the OMEN in the end as found a 10% code and it's more than enough for my needs.

For anyone interested Tesco have 10% off various laptops:

Hello,

Since it's holidays and i'm  bored, i'm thinking about buying FM 2017. I have seen on STEAM that you can download transfers and stuff :)

My question is, can my Macbook run FM 2017 properly (including downloaded transfer, face scans, ...?)

Processor : 1,2 GHz Intel Core M

Memory 8 GB ( RAM) 1600 MHz DDR3

Video card : Intel HD Graphics 5300 1536 MB

I also wanna use face scans and badges scans as it so much more fun to play :) Is it actually easy to implement them on steam?

To elaborate on this - the Mac Book won't be good enough

Processor : 1,2 GHz Intel Core M

FM requires

Mac OS X 10.7.5, 10.8.5, 10.9.5, 10.10.5, 10.11.6, 10.12 (64-bit)

Intel Core 2 – 1.8GHz+

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

AMD/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400

Intel GMA X3100

256MB VRAM

Direct X 9.0c compliant

OpenGL 2.1 compliant

2GB RAM

3GB HDD

So you are below the minimum specs.

Hi everyone, I currently have the Acer V3-771G https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aspire-V3-771G-Blu-ray-Graphics-Windows/dp/B00AYC7MC8

I’ve noticed that it is beginning to lag whilst playing FM17, normal web browsing and using Microsoft word and excel.  Would this laptop be able to play FM 18 at a decent speed? Usually I I like to play with 8 leagues (England, Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Holland, Brazil and Argentina)

Do you know if it’s possible for me to update my intel processor to the latest one? I think it’s the 7th generation now?  If I changed my hard drive to a SSD one, would that increase the general speed?

Thanks for reading

It's not likely that you can update the processor.

Nobody knows what FM18 will be like - except for the makers of the game - so the specs have not been released, there's no way to know.

Your computer is just old.

Uninstall any applications don't you don't use - download a program called CCleaner and look up the tutorials for best cleaning up your computer. Remove any unnecessary programs from Starting up.

I wouldn't bother doing anything with a computer that old - you're better off saving up and buying a new laptop.

The PC I'm playing FM on was bought in 2012 - and it as 211gb used space with 365gb free.

I also use this PC for graphic design, and have fairly hefty programmes on it, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator etc. along with all my project files and all that for clients

I bought a 64gb USB3 stick for about £20 - this one actually - https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/USB-Flash-Drives/SanDisk-Ultra-USB-Flash-Drive/B00DQGBYDC/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1500745015&sr=1-2&keywords=usb3+stick

If you feel you need more hard drive space then go for the on with more hard drive space.

Genuinely, I don't think you'll need it.

Thanks again for the help mate, I opted for £600 MSI in the end. Runs FM like a dream, but with Windows taking up 40gb and the graphics for FM etc it's near to the 128gb SSD already.

So my question is about the USB drive you recommended - I'm thinking I'll buy the 128gb version. How would I go about making sure that only the apps are on the SSD and that I divert files, etc, on to the USB drive? Is this easy to do? I'm used to a mac before this laptop, so any advice would be great.

Firstly - it's great to hear that it's running like a dream!

I'll have to get home to take a look at how I'm setup to properly direct you on the USB/external hard drive setup.

Windows typically takes 20gb of space. Football Manager takes up 3gb of space. I'm struggling to know how you're at your limit already.

I suggest you look at uninstalling any preloaded software that you won't typically use which is known as bloatware- https://www.google.ie/search?q=windows+10+uninstall+bloatware&oq=windows+10+uninstall+bloat&aqs=chrome.0.0j69i57j0l4.4859j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Don't worry - uninstalling bloatware is something that is required on most computer installs.

After I looked at my hard drive in the post quoted above I spent time going through apps and files that I don't use - and removed them. I currently have my hard drive below the 128gb size - and it's fine.

I would have Windows 10 installed, Football Manager 2012, 2015 and 2017 are all installed, along with all my graphic design Apps, like InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, plus I have a load of design project files and I'm not anywhere near 128gb at the moment.

Will this be ok for FM? I run with about 4 leagues and a medium database- just want the game to run smoothly and quickly. Any alternatives will be appreciated. Budget of about £800- could stretch to £850.

Looks a bit underpowered for the price - however it would be quite good for your needs - and Dell are are a good make.

The major thing going against the dell is the very slow hard drive (the slowest make in fact at 5400rpm)
It has an entry level graphics card - https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-R7-M445-Gaming-Benchmarks-and-Specs.195642.0.html

I found this one - which is a lot better - https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/30021502-Medion-Erazer-X6601_1972462.html - however, I'm not too sure about Medion.

It has an SSD drive - which is super quick
A better processor https://ark.intel.com/compare/95451,88967
And a better graphics card - https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-960M.138006.0.html

I see the FM18 System Requirements for Mac state the below

Graphics Cards: Cards equal to or better than the following:

  • Intel GMA X4500
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
  • AMD/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

My Video Card/Graphics is a HD Graphics 5000, is that equal or better than the Intel GMA X4500?

Should I be okay and not need to upgrade my laptop for FM18?

Thanks for any advice

Can I run fm 2017 or fm 2018. AMD A4 4300M 2.5ghz up to 3.0ghz integrated graphics, 6GB ram 5.47GB usable, 64 bit windows 10, only 2d engine?

Definitely enough RAM. Processor is quite slow however, you'll probably be able to run a league or two and 2D engine.

Yes you can run it - but up to you the amount of leagues you run etc.

It will be fine for the most part - the processor is along the lines of an older i3 processor - and I'd never normally recommend and i3 processor - however the AmD A4 4300m would be ok for running FM.

I've ran a program saying my pc has the minimum requirements to play fm, but when I've played the demo my fan gets really noisy.

Your fan is getting noisy as it's being put into action to cool the processor. Fans can get noisy when dirt builds up, dust and fluff etc. Turn off your computer and use a vacuum cleaner to suck the dirt out of the fan area - failing this - you can take it to a laptop repair place to get it cleaned out.

It should stop it getting noisy - and I'd highly recommend purchasing a Laptop Cooler.

Hello all

I am also looking for a new/upgrade on my laptop and my main reason for purchasing is to play FM, I have had a look here in HK and I need to purchase through a certain shop so I can pay over 12 months.  My options on availability are therefore limited.

Anyway this one seems really good for the price, can anybody confirm that this would be a good option for the upcoming 2018 version of FM?  Help/advice would be appreciated.  It will cost $6,799.00 HKD which is around 680 - 700 quid.

Cheers

Will it run fm17 okay and I assume 18 will be okay if it will run 17. Iv never had more than a few leagues loaded and want to run a lot of leagues and players so taking the splurge and going for a gaming laptop. Other games I wanna play too are things like Sims 3/4 and Rome total war type games. Thanks for your help mate.

Hi guys, sorry for the slight off topic, I recently sold my desktop + 27” monitor and I am now looking to buy a replacement laptop – for FM17 (and FM18!!) of course. In the meantime I have tried playing on my wife’s 15.6” Acer V3-574G which is a brilliant multimedia laptop with great IPS screen but the picture (fonts, etc.) is so tiny at 1920x1080.. I have tried various skins and zooming to 125%,  also did some hacks to allow 150% zoom but at that point it tends to cut off some panels. If I lower the resolution the picture tends to get blurry so my question is which resolution do you guys play at (on 15.6” laptops)?

I was looking to buy a 17.3” laptop but I am now worried the size increase will not be enough…

Many thanks in advance!

This might not be the best place to ask, and I am sorry if this is too off topic but:

If I purchase my laptop here in the US would I be able to use it in the UK over a long period of time? I know the electricity voltage or something is different to the US, but aside from that is there anything else I would need to be cognizant of?

Also, thinking of getting either this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WVMJ713?psc=1

or this as the missus loves her photo stuff and she could do some nice stuff on this I think:

I haven't played or bought Football Manager since "FM 2013", so I'm a little behind the times as far as the specs are concerned.

My laptop had an incident with a cup of coffee. Now there's no laptop

I'm looking at a Dell inspiron with i3 7100, 8GB Ram and 1tb hard drive.

Would this run FM2017/18? If so, how many leagues and how big a database?

Thanks.

What kind of spec would you need to run a lot of league and a large database? With the laptop I got I want to run a fair few as I never have run more than 3 leagues at a time on my current non gaming laptop.

Any advice as to how this will handle fm 17 and 18 when it's out? I don't imagine the processor would struggle with a large number of leagues and players loaded? Will the graphics card and RAM be okay?

I already have a good gaming PC and a highly capable laptop that both run FM like a charm but I want just a little bit more portability and I'm wondering if any users have some feedback using the Surface Pro 4 or the new 2017 Surface Pro?  Specifically, how many leagues are you running and how many players have you got loaded?  I should point out that I don't really bother with 3D graphics anymore, I'm more than happy with 2D and in all likelihood I'll probbaly stick to FM Touch (though I might venture back to the full game).

Given the above, I think the SP4 or 2017 should handle FM2017 nicely but I'm keen to hear how others are getting on before I jump in and buy - I would use it for a variety of things and old-school wargames and when I'm at home I'll be mostly using Steam streaming but still  need to be as well informed as I can.

Hi everyone.

I'm looking to potentially finance an gaming laptop in the near future

Ideally I'd want to be able to run most Europeon Leagues with a few stars in game speed/Performance if that's possible.

If anyone has any suggestions then please send them my way.

Hi all

I've currently got this:

HP envy 17 notebook pc with 8 GB RAM,

Graphics card Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600,

Processer Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710MQ CPU @ 2.50GHz

Speakers are gone and it's about 4 years old, on FM2017 there's a terrible lag on 3d games (and when processing during the game week - I usually play with 2 or 3 leagues) so i'm looking at a new laptop for FM18 so I can play the game smoothly.  One with better speakers and a CD drive for itunes, other than FM i'm generally just using Word/Excel and browsing the internet, so speed and ease of use needed for these.

I'm looking at this ASUS:

https://www.johnlewis.com/asus-republic-of-gamers-gl553-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-ram-1tb-hdd-128gb-ssd-nvidia-gtx-1050-4gb-vram-15-6-full-hd/p3167394

and this Dell:

https://www.johnlewis.com/dell-inspiron-15-5000-series-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-ram-256gb-ssd-amd-radeon-r7-15-6-/p3124483

Not an expert by any means, so if anyone has any advice on whether I should get either one (and why) or any other suggestions, that would be very much appreciated!  Thanks in advance for anyone who takes the time to reply.

John
