Should I pay the extra £50 for this (seems like it has a newer processor, was thinking of shelf life?) - https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/FX504GD-E4603T-ASUS-FX504GD-E4603T-Gaming-Laptop_2354095.html

or £50 less for this - https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.GP8EK.003-Acer-Aspire-7-A715-71G-57YT_2156569.html

Thanks again

The Acer, for the SSD instead of the HDD on the Asus.

The thing is - they might not be in store - I don't know where you are in England, nor what the stock levels are like in your local store.

That list has the best I could find online for their store in the UK.

I'd pick any of the RED listed ones, but in store they may not have the exact one.

So you have a choice of any of the red listed.

Failing that - you can go for an orange one - nearly as good.

Smurf... Thanks for replying. If all in stock, what's your top 3. Then I cna choose for that

Any of the red ones - all the same spec.

I prefer 17 inch - but you might prefer 15 inch.

Any of these in 15 inch

Reason being - 128gb drive for fast boot and general performance. SSD has little effect for FM.

Install games - applications etc. on your other 1tb drive.  You can look that up - easy to do.

I need a new laptop, just because of FM. I can afford an i7-8xxx processor/ GTX1050 4GB GPU, or i5-8xxx/ GTX1060. My question is whether this will be good enough for FM20, or even FM21? Should I rather blow the budget and go for i7-processor and GTX1060 6GB card in view of future FM versions, or will GTX1050 be a safe choice? (Obviously, I understand that it can be difficult to answer, but it's hard to choose spending so much money on a single game).

Hi,

I'm completely clueless when it comes to technology but I'm looking for a decent laptop for £400-500 that will play FM19 to a decent standard/speed. I'm a 2D man, would ideally like to run the 4/5 major leagues, maybe 2/3 view only as well. Not expecting anything super fast, just steady and last 3-4 years.  I will be using is solely for FM, nothing else whatsoever. Hence why I dont want to spend massive amount.

Is there any recommendations?

Cheers.

Why did you block out the i7-8xxx numbers? They are important to know what processor you're going for.

an i7-8650u wouldn't be as good as an i5-8300h

What laptops are you looking at?

These seems to be my choices in different laptops:

1) i7-8700 or i7-8750H and GTX1050 Ti
2) i5-8300H and GTX1060 6GB

I know both options will work fine with FM19, but now I focus also on future FM-releases. With a future FM-perspective; should I blow my budget buying a i7-8700/ i7-8750H and GTX1060 6GB?

(I am not looking at any particular laptop yet, but it seems that these are most relevant in my price range: HP Omen 15, Acer Nitro 5 and Multicom Xishan (Norwegian - Clevo/ EuroCom))

Afternoon All,

Would the new Surface Go (8Gb Ram, 128Gb SSD version) work as a CLIENT for an online game of the PC Touch version?

Not had the chance to play FM for a couple of years (cheers kids :) ) but would like to get back into it.  I used to play regularly in a network game with friends

It would be with someone else hosting, who has a 1/2 decent rig.  As above it would be PC Touch version but with slightly more than the 3 countries running (prob 5 with 10/12 leagues)
Use 2D for matches, so not bothered with graphics.

I wasn't sure if its the host pc that does most of the heavy lifting.

Cheers,
Del

Hey Smurf,

I’m in need of a new laptop for FM19, my budget is between £500-£600 for a laptop exclusively to play FM, what would you recommend? Any help would be appreciated.

The i7-8700 is better than the i7-8750 h

and the i5 8300 h is good with a better graphics card.

All in all for FM I'd go with the i5-8300h with 1060gb.

But if you can afford the i7 with the 1060 6gb then go for that.

Check out the single core performances for each processor as FM is still largely single core. Having more cores is an advantage somewhat, but not hugely for FM.

Is it possible to say something about fan noise when running FM19 3D match engine with high settings/ full details?

For example, when looking at the "System noise" section here:
https://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-GP63-Leopard-8RE-i7-8750H-GTX-1060-FHD-Xotic-PC-Edition-Laptop-Review.307690.0.html

Does FM19 use so much resources to be categorized under "Load Maximum", or is it more likely to be a "Load Average"-game?

Sorry for all the stupid questions.

That would depend how many leagues and divisions you load, and database size. The more processing to do the more the load.

Ah. So number of leagues/ DB size will also affect performance/ fan noise when watching the 3D match engine. That was new to me.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Well, I read the noise report there, but if it's a matter of keeping it cool, you can pick up a laptop cooler for fairly cheap.

No, it is not just about cooling. I am just trying to understand how the game works before spending a lot on a new laptop. I am used to 2D on FMT17, and it would be a shame to buy a new laptop which is disturbing my wife with a noisy fan when playing FM19 on full 3D match engine details ;)

Good evening, does anyone have any experience how an integrated graphics card like the Intel UHD 620 handles 3D?

I am looking at a couple of new laptops, likely an i5 8th gen, 8gb ram. Don't really need 3d to look incredible, i currently use low settings on my 7yr old laptop.

Also, is the computer likely to get hot if i am playing in 3D if I don't have a dedicated graphics card?

Smurf... I got the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 from PC World. Only running 1 league with medium database and the fan is so annoying. As soon as a game starts it kicks in and is so noisy. I can't use it on my lap becuase the fans are underneath and to hot. Need to contact customer sevices about returning it and possibly getting a different one

Smurf... I got the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 from PC World. Only running 1 league with medium database and the fan is so annoying. As soon as a game starts it kicks in and is so noisy. That'll be because that laptop really isn't all that good. The processor can ramp up to a high speed, but the base speed is low, and hitting the higher processing speeds will cause it to pump out correspondingly more heat. It also has a poorer graphics card compared to the ones Smurf suggested, and less hard drive space.

If you can, get it swapped for one of the ones Smurf suggested in the first place.

Guys

What would be the smallest laptop to run full fat FM (and only FM)? Reason for "small" is that I'd like it to be portable, my current horror show of a laptop is 15"6 and ideally would prefer smaller.

Happy with 6/700 budget bit could stretch to a bit more

Bear in mind - smaller form laptops at that price are not as powerful for database/league amoutns -  or be good at 3d matches in anything more than low detail.

The one posted worth £649 the other day is out of stock at Curry’s. This is recommended, priced 749. Worth it?

Thought the 15 inch were too bulky for you?

or do you have any other suggestions for the same price or a bit cheaper?

See post above - although might not be available when you're looking.

Get the cash up front and see where the laptops are at then.

The only thing you can do is increase the RAM.

Other than that - player only a few leagues, a small database - and keep any 3d/match settings on lowest level.
