Firstly, Smurf I have been following this thread for a few months and the amount of effort you put in here is incredible!

Secondly, I'm hoping to get your thoughts on the following laptop:

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/computers-tablets/laptops/laptop/hp-15-cx0031tx-15-6-pavilion-power-laptop/prod163363.html

I work at this retailer in NZ and can pick this up for $2142. Converted to GBP its roughly £1102. I need the laptop for FM19 and my wife needs it for Genetic analysis work which requires a beasty processor.

Any guidance would be hugely appreciated!

Certainly can't find anything of better value out there - looked at a few NZ laptop sites.

Pretty much that processor is ranked 24th here https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html

Which is a good thing, if you can find an processor in the top 10 in your price range.

16gb RAM would be great for your wife and the Genetic analysis side of things - my brother does similar work, so that's a bit of a co-incidence...

Maybe if you are looking there wouldn't be a massive advantage for FM from stepping up the processor unless you went into the top 10 on the list. Even still for FM - make sure the single core performance is high on the processor - the higher the better for FM - and not sure about genetic research, I'm sure it utilises all the cores, but who knows!

I can increase it to 200$, i will try to find one, or if someone as any suggestions i m open to hear it

You'd need to tripple or quadruple that budget.

oh my... :(

Where would you usually buy a laptop online, and I can take a look at something in your budget, it may be 2nd hand or used, or something, but surely we can find something.

If you can get it to $200 then put it away in a sock drawer or something and add to it over time.

I'd put a laptop of about €1000 in the good category and perfectly suitable for FM. Anything between €500 and €600 would be low quality laptop. €600-700 would be mid. €800-900 would be mid-high and anything from €900-€1000 should be high - and then €1000+ would be extreme high end. And if your budget is greater than €1500/€2000 then you can of course get a beast .

Just to be fair - $200 is very very low budget.

And if your budget was €1000 - then the price of a cup of coffee each day would be enough to save for a year, if your coffee is €2 a cup, and bought one every day then €2x365 = €730 - or in your case $730.

I'd love to help you, but be warned your budget is very low.

Any help would be appreciated, i'm looking into getting a second hand laptop, i've come across a HP laptop Folio 9480m Specs - SPECIFICATIONS: Processor: 2GHz Intel Core i5 4310U, Memory: 4GB DDR3 SDRAM, Storage:  256GB SATA

Will this run fm on 2D with a few nations acceptable?

Aye, that'd run FM19 decently. The processor is pretty good, and the graphics card is more than enough for FM. It may be slightly slower due to not having an SSD hard drive, but if you can deal with it taking a couple of minutes to boot up, it'll be fine.

Maybe, but probably not. The processor in that is 6, nearly 7 years old, and even running at full pelt, it's not far over the minimum requirements, and that's assuming it can manage to turbo the processor to full speed without being throttled by temperature.

I wouldn't go for it.

Awful laptop that isn't designed or suited for gaming at all. The processor is barely minimum specs, the Radeon graphics will be integrated and not a dedicated graphics card (otherwise they'd say so - plus, just checked, it'd be a Radeon 4, which is barely over minimum specs too), you really want 8GB RAM, and it has no SSD, so slow booting.

I wouldn't waste your money on that, it'll just be frustrating to play on, and not a chance it'll do 3D in a playable way.

An i5 7th generation HQ or higher, imo.

This list here https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html

Mostly anything from 159 on the list and up.

I just wouldn't bother with anything else. That's not saying all 159 top listed processors are fully suited for FM either. But it's a good guide.

If you find anything do post it and we can take a look.

Not played FM since the end of last year, my laptop was horrific, only able to play with one or two leagues.

Looking to have 3/4 leagues selected and 8/9 divisions with a large database.

Got around £500 to spend on a new device, anything you can recommend Smurf that would run the above quickly?

In need of something in a hurry, Only things the laptop will be used for is FM and Browsing. However the FM I will be playing is a network game were the game will be carried by the host (not me) so just something to run the match engine really. Just a basic laptop that will run that and probably an SSD to run it on.

Never had a problem with previous fm games with my laptop seems this one is too much for it, constantly crahing during games  have tried everthing.   Not looking to spend much more than 500, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey Smurf.

I'm in the market for a new laptop as the one I purchased in 2011 has finally reached the end of the road with regards to running FM (which is literally all I use my laptop for)

I'm really wanting to utilise the 3D match engine with my new machine as I haven't been able to enjoy it the last few years unless I had it on the lowest setting and wanted the sound of a plane taking off down my ear for a few hours at a time.

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/1RJ98EAABU-HP-OMEN-15-ce001na_2147420.html

Do you think this laptop will do the business for me?

Many thanks

SSD won't speed up FM.

Can't do much better. Business wise - never liked the specially coloured keys of WASD for gamers.

found this

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.GP8EK.003-Acer-Aspire-7-A715-71G-57YT_2156569.html

Although not as much storage. Could do with an external drive at some point, or upgrade the ssd to a larger model.

But that would be years down the road (at least 1 or 2 years).

Hey smurf,

my son is wanting a new laptop to play fortnite and the like but he is going to let me put fm on it. (Nice of him in know).

What would you recommend for around £800 that would play his games and run fm with 10 leagues and higher graphics?

Cheer joe

Hey guys! I'm looking for an hybrid laptop (the smaller and lighter the better) to play FM 2019.

My budget is not really high (350€ max) and I just run into this one:

https://www.worten.pt/informatica/computadores/portateis-hibridos-2-em-1/portatil-hibrido-11-6-asus-tp203na-c3dhdsb2-6309110?utm_source=KuantoKustaProd&utm_medium=comparadordeprecos&utm_campaign=alwayson

Do you think I'll bem able to play FM 2019 smoothly on this? It Will be only to play FM and for work (office and web) so I don't want a gaming PC, just something very portable.

500 is not a huge budget. Most laptops come with ram of 8gb. I'll have to find a 500 quid laptop and then research if the ram you have is compatible. But you have to provide all info on the ram, can post where you bought it from?

It's not great. If that's all you have them try the demo first. Might be better off with FM touch.

Processor is relatively new. Untested for FM. Research shows it's only approx 11% faster than previous version. This looks a bit expensive for what it is.

Hi, I have a budget of £500-600,

I recently purchased this laptop and it was faulty so i'm taking it back, i didn't really like the feel of it and i don't wanna mess around and replace it and get the same brand.

Firstly, would this have been good enough to run FM? Essentially all i'm fussed about is having a good enough processor to manage in an English lower league database.

If it is could you please recommend a laptop with similar specs? If not could you please recommend a better one within my budget?

Thanks

It's out of stock and it's not great - I think this would be better

I found this one

Seems like it would do the trick - but if other exeperienced users on the forum wouldn't mind weighing in on it.

Hi, I got the below laptop for £550 in sale however unfortunately after being sent off for repair has suffered another issue all within 3 months. Frustratingly it played FM19 very well for my needs - 4.5/5 * running top 4 leagues in Eng and top league in 5 other nations with 3* for graphics no issues on High settings.
Although I could get an exchange I don't trust the laptop but unfortunately I can't find anything near the specs I currently have for the money I would get for an exchange (£550).
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Current laptop

It should be under warranty and if it can't be repaired it should be replaced like for like.

Hi Smurf,

First of all, appreciate all the time you put into this thread. I'm in dire need of an upgrade but don't want to break the bank. I've noticed 2 laptop come on sale as part of the 'black Friday' and wanted your opinion on both and how they will handle Football Manager 2019.

They seem to both be the same apart from the processor, are these good enough + is it worth the extra hundred for the better processor?

Or does the below blow both out of the water?

Thanks

Hi Smurf,

I have been looking for a cheap laptop purely to run FM on for a few weeks now. Unfortunately cant find anything in my price range that meets the requirements. I have however been offered a used laptop for £200 with the below specs:

Processor - Intel Core i5-5200U
CPU - 2.20 GHz
RAM - 8GB
System type - 64 bit
OS - Windows 10 Pro

I think I am going to struggle to find another laptop with these specs at this price so most likely going to purchase.

Just wanted your opinion on 1) If you think the next FM game will require higher CPU as this laptop is only at the min spec and 2) If you think there is anything on the market that would be more worthwhile purchasing for maybe an additional £100 or so ? Or if this laptop is good value for money.
