Wanting a laptop really, budget is at tops £900. I'll be looking to do it on finance as well. 

Want something that allows me to play FM17, AOE without any issues, the full amount of leagues etc. Also, I like to use packs for trophies/club logos etc so what would the laptop need in order to run this smoothly? Otherwise, I use it for studying and browsing. Currently got a Toshiba Satellite, know it has a i7 processor but can't remember the full name. It allows me to have 80,000 ish players on FM and close to 30 leagues for 2 stars performance. 


PS. I know very little about specs and stuff!

Only drawback in the fact it's not got an SSD.

Hi, probably looking for the impossible here lol I'm looking for a laptop with a budget ranging from 450 - 600 that'll play fm on with the best graphics etc, don't need it to be overly portable or for any other purpose, obviously I'd like it to be as quick as possible and to last for as many years without needing renewing, I'd love some advice and would be very grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction, I'm completely a computer novice.. I'm not a big gamer, but I do play a bit of FM. I've been looking at the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. It's got one of the lower speed i7-7Y75 processors that Dell say runs up to 3.6Ghz. I think this is a boost though, and the normal speed is slower? 

Does anyone have any experience with this laptop/these processors? I don't think it could run FM (with it having a low speed and being fanless) so just want to double check.

Quick question, if I'm on a budget, which aspects should I prioritise to play FM as fast as possible?

- SSD

- Processing Speed

- Number of Cores

 

And is there a minimum for each of these? For example, I'm currently thinking that a 4GB RAM, Dual-Core, SSD, 2.5ghz laptop would be a decent bet. But should I be looking to perhaps sacrifice SSD for a quad core?

However, it's my opinion they are overpriced and underpowered (an overheat for Football Manager).

For the price I think it's ok. A decent prosessor, SSD and 8GB RAM are fine. If you can afford that price range, it seems like a good laptop for FM. 

As for the 9,5 Hr battery life.... HAAHHAHAHAHAHH. Maybe with one lucky test at the factory with minimal currency and only BIOS loaded.

I forgot to add a couple of points.

 

When buying a laptop you should always try it by yourself if you have the chance. That way you can really tell if the screen is readable from different angles and how it "feels" to use the laptop. Just reading specs is a bit misleading. And because they don't name the maximum resolution in the specs in gills17's case, looking at the more detailed specification reveals that it only has a resolution of 1366 x 768. That is ok but these days I'd consider a 1920 x 1080 laptop if that laptop was my only device (no PC or larger eternal screen available).

Looking at the picture now, the laptop gills17 was considering has a standard square touchscreen in the lower left side. My first laptop had a smaller one centered in the middle like this one. As I got used to it during a couple of years, it was very hard to use a bigger one without my hands screwing with the touchpad all the time.  

 

So, it's about the amount of money you can "invest", your goals and the expectations for the laptop (specifications) and finally, personal preference.

Problem is when you got to the stores - you can see them for sure, and pick one that looks the fanciest.

 

But for FM it's all about the processor, it's speed and performance. Secondly it's about how much RAM the computer has (minimum in my book is 8gb). Thirdly the hard drive - an SSD is a must in my book too - however, if you want to get costs down then consider a hard drive with at least 7200 rpm. 

However, there's another factor - graphics - and if this is important to you then then there are low end, mid range and high end performance graphics card.  FM doesn't need anything too fancy in terms of graphics, as they are quite rudimentary - but we don't know what future FM installations will have. 

 

All in all - don't skimp on the Processor or the RAM - and if graphics are important to you - don't skimp on that either. Most people do come here because they have no idea what is the best value for their budget - some have a budget of 300, some of 500, someone came on before with a budget of 2000.  All we can do is cater to the budget, what they want to get most from the game (lots of leagues or graphics, or both) etc. 

 

All this talk about trackpads and all that - they can be turned off so that you don't interfer with them. 

 

If you can get to somewhere to look at the laptop you want to buy - then by all means go and do it. 

 

But heed the specs that are dished out here.

For me, if I get used to something, it is kind of hard to "fall back" you know. Once you have used a laptop/PC that has a good SSD, using one without SSD feels a bit akward.

I have to ask: Do laptops (or other electronics) only have 3 month warranty in UK? That sounds kind of lame.

As for you problem, I can't name a model but I think if you go for a cheaper one, you have to accept a screen that has a poorer resolution than 1920 x 1080 or a laptop that has no SSD.

It's pretty difficult to futureproof a computer on a 500 quid budget

Hi guys, been out of the country for a fair amount of time and haven't kept up with the latest finds in terms of laptops around... any bargains come up recently?

I have been trying to find a laptop to play a FM on but my knowledge of laptops is very limited. I have been googling past few days and I found this laptop. Can someone tell me if it is good enough to play FM 17 on it and if so how fast will it be.
