Anyone got a really good tactic to use with United starting a save soon and i usually use 4-2-3-1 wide but always seem to have issues with the team taking the chances just cant get my strikers to score this year consistently

It depends on what you prefer such as tika taka or possession or whatever else. Have you noticed issues with scoring 1v1's? long shots rather than shooting in the box? central play being inexistant most times? Your striker might have poor movement to the ME issues that it's having reasoning to your poor goals. I've been playing 4-1-2-3 DM Wide and tbh my strikers and wingers/IF's are so bad that I think the whole front 3 is hindered by so much more than their abilities but somehow still on top of the league and unbeaten half way through 1st season but took some dips in form mid jan. Can't get sanchez, lingard, martial to do much, same with fred. Pogba, peirera are my best CM's and it looks like they've fallen off the cliff so i went back to 4-2-3-1 as it was my main before fm19 and the issues still were applied.

However, you can bypass these issues sometimes and it does depend on what you play so either a scrn shot or what you want to play as in styles would be helpful to help you back.

On my way to clean sweeping all the silverware in my 3rd season, won the League with 4 games to go, Final of FA Cup secured and playing Madrid in the semis of the UCL coming up

Barcelona are being so damn persistent in chasing De Ligt, several of their players are saying he should switch and he's interested. Tried offering him a new contract, he didn't want to sign and the reported offer is £104 million. Thoughts? Because he is my best centre-back, but all of them (De Ligt, Parvard, Umtiti and Lindelof) play well when they come into the team

Sorry to ask for help again but I suddenly find myself in desperate need of a right back after I sold Sidibe to Atletico.

I've tried for Odriozola and Henrichs but undone know whether they're worth the money?  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Try for Joshua Kimmich or Hugo Mallo. I got Mallo in my save and he's been reliable and Kimmich's very versatile

What's Ruben Dias doing in your save? I don't think there's a better BPD than De Ligt (unless you need one with Brings Ball Out Of Defence), but if you're just using normal CDs you can cope without selling. If he's still playing well despite being unsettled though, I'd be inclined to tough it out, unless his contract is expiring in 18 months.

Henrichs is too slow and bad at actually defending for my tastes. Nelson Semedo is often a cheap option. Mitchel Weiser, Felix Passlack, Josha Vagnoman come to mind too. Odriozola is pretty great though.

Funnily enough, Ruben Dias is at Barcelona! The team trying to pinch De Ligt in the first place! What nerve. But scouted rating for Dias is 66 so probably not a great replacement, and yes I do use BPD's at the moment

Cheers, Kimmich at PSG so no chance of that. Mallo a good cheep option but a bit old tbh.

Thanks, Henrichs too slow? 14 Acceleration, 15 Pace that's not bad. Does look a bit dodgy defensively though. Semedo at LIverpool so that's a none starter, Passlack pretty poor defensively it seems. Vagnoman looks okay as well. Weiser is a very attacking choice and cheap. Definitely want Odriozola as top choice though.

Don't pay too much attention to that number - look at the report for the pros / cons, and look at how his attributes compare to your players. Although he has BBOOD Dias is more of a normal CD so just try to hang on to de Ligt.

He's improved it in-game then, whenever I've scouted him on saves he's had 13-13. Sucks about Semedo. I take it you still have Dalot? He was brilliant for me. Maybe look to Italy - De Sciglio, Calabria come to mind.

Have to agree with this, Dalot's been amazing for me so far and is easily my first choice RB. And I will do my best!

£109 million for a player you are signing as a rotation? I dunno, but if it's what you need and it seems like you have the spare money, go for it

I couldn't believe it as more goals kept flying in, Madrid just did not turn up!!! Combine that with a 5-3 win away in the first leg, it results in the most insane aggregate score I have ever seen: 13-4

Onwards to Liverpool in the final

You're a wild, crazy kinda guy! I doubt I'd pay that for a first-choice FB.

Meanwhile, waiting for the next major update, I thought I'd try my first proper United save this year - 433dm wide, Martial and Sanchez rotating at AML. Pre-season Martial does his knee ligaments, out for 6-8 months; a week later Sanchez suffers broken ribs, out for 3-5 months; decide to use Pereira as a makeshift AML, second game of the season, breaks his leg, out for 4-6 months. "Are you sure you want to start a new career game?" :seagull:

Quite right! Probably too late to make a difference, but this year I quite like Kevin Mbabu at RB - has the bonus of being home grown in nation thanks to his time at Newcastle. Alternatively, Davide Calabria (Milan) has been good for me... your scouts might not like him, but I do.

Haha, yeah my scouts certainly don't like Calabria, Mbabu is at Napoli now and he looks fantastic.

Weiser will do the job for now at least.

@Jamesbfc1887 @warlock completely forgot about Mbabu, always consider signing him, always get beaten to it by Chelsea. I don't know about in this FM, but FM16, 17, 18 Calabria has been beast for me. On my FM18 Milan save even my own coaches didn't reckon he was up to much but his attributes said he might be and he performed as if he was the 2nd coming of Cafu.

This year he seems to be on the radar of Bayern. Wouldn't claim he was world class but he's a solid, reliable option at RB.

Yeah, I like him a lot. Haven't had much of a chance to sign him in FM19 - mostly playing EFL clubs - but if I can get a United save going this year they'll both be high on my list of potential signings!

Who's the closest thing to Park Ji-Sung these days? Natural position doesn't really matter as retraining is always an option.

Pic from older version on the net looks about right, w/rate, stamina & n/fitness are the main ones, 18+ preferably. Determination can be worked on for younger options. Off the ball is desirable but maybe unrealistic. Technicals really are last priority.

Just interested in some ideas/experience. Tentative searches have brought up little tbh. I like the idea of a 'European football specialist'.

Christoph Kramer , Hanno Behrens , Charles Aránguiz and for the younger options i would say Konrad Laimer, Iver Fossum , Karol Linetty. All similar when it comes to Ji Sung's best attributes.

Lingard is similar, minus Positioning (if you praise him I’m training his Work Rate will get up to 20 in no time). I think Park would initially be an AMC too.

End of season 3 review, and it's been a good one:

Clean sweep of all possible trophies...didn't win the EURO Super Cup only because we weren't in it! Players rating and goals:

20190219194910_1.thumb.jpg.96851230367b3dfb19aacb2cb2e06655.jpg20190219194913_1.thumb.jpg.67a8f7afb1d4932664ccf6631d8afff2.jpg

Look at all those above a 7.50! I expected Pogba to have the highest rating but Luke Shaw coming in at an insane 7.93 proved me wrong! Honourable shout outs to Gomes, Chong and Greenwood for placing above 7.50

Pogba and Lukaku tied at 24 goals each but look at 3rd place, Gelson Martins with 20 goals to his name, he is a demon coming off the right flank. Shout-outs again to Chong (15 goals), Gomes (14 goals and 15 assists) and Lindelof (8 goals for the CB)

Time to head into the summer break! Will any of my big names leave? And if so, who will replace them? Or will I stick with my youth prospects and look to trim the squad a little? Let's find out!

Be careful as they usually put a bid in the summer, make sure you put it high enough to block their interest and not disatisfy De ligt as they usually cry when they're over valued but yet to see it in this FM.

Congrats on smashing it... AGAIN lol. Was it you playing 4-2-3-1? I can't seem to get my IF's/wingers working at all eventhough i'm top of the league. Seems they don't work in my tactics well enough to work so my mid usually bolsters. Wondering if you have any tips, be much appreciated.

Park was a defensive freak.  Great defensive mentals. He'd make a great full-back in FM and he'd probably be converted into one in today's game too.

Yeah I did wonder if Lingard would be mentioned. He looks the stand-out option (with Laimer). Sacrificing positioning seems reasonable tbf especially for a bit of pace, everything else is ok.

Thanks

Yeah, he was unique. I can't believe I didn't think of him before, but Radja Nainggolan fits the bill even more perfectly. Lingard can provide the pressing from the front that Park could do, but if you want to do the equivalent of when he shackled Pirlo in the Champions League, you'd need the defensive attributes, and Nainggolan has them.

My two go to formations are 4-4-1-1 with inverted wing backs and wide midfielders and a 4-2-3-1...both seem to work well, can't offer more than that!

Good news is there haven't been any offers yet, and I've been doing more business than I thought! Four of my players have been sold, got some experienced players on a free and making one or two signings and promoting one or two youngsters, once we get closer to the Community Shield I'll post another update!

Community Shield imminent, quite a bit of wheeling and dealing going on before season 4 but I am generally happy with my acquisitions and those I sold:

Transfers in: Lewandowski and Handanovic (free transfers), Jordan Sancho (£81 million), Felix Passlack (£46 million)

Transfers out: Bergwijn (PSG, £75 million), Hugo Mallo (PSG, £43 million), Joel Pereira (Crystal Palace, £7 million), Sanchez (CSKA Moscow, Free), Ro-Shaun Williams (Hibs, Free)

Leaves my squad looking as follows (with several of these players versatile including Dalot, Lindelof, Umtiti, Rashford, Chong, Gomes, Alli and Pereira):

GK: Pickford, Handanovic, Ploggman

DR: Dalot, Passlack, Fosu-Mensah
DC(s): De Ligt, Pavard, Umtiti, Lindelof
DL: Shaw, Tiernay

MR: Martins, Rashford, Chong
MC(s): Pogba, Saul, A. Pereira, Tonali, Puigmal
ML: Sancho, Martial

AMC: Gomes, Alli

SC: Lukaku, Lewandowski, Greenwood, Burkart

@ShadowEdSide that's one hell of a squad! Cannot recommend Sancho highly enough, with Dortmund in a flipped version of the tactic I used with United he was unplayable as a Wide Playmaker on the left, contributing something like 15 goals and 22 assists, all from open play too.

Any chance of screenshots of Gomes, Chong, Puigmal, Greenwood and Burkart? You're about 6 months ahead of where I left off on my save, so would be interested to compare how they've developed compared to mine (although I haven't given Puigmal and Burkart any game time, might have even sold the latter).

Not him of course, but I have progressed even further. As you can see I included Dean Henderson and Diogo Dalot as well, as they are the ones who have developed the most so far.

Looks like @Vizzini beat me but I'd be more than happy to share mine regardless. Puigmal I haven't used much so far, and Burkart's been on loan mostly so they might not be fully developed yet:

And for funsies, I'll throw in three of my best players, including the European Player of the Year for last season and my captain Paul Pogba:

@ShadowEdSide Gelson Martins is just a fun player to have on your team when you're on 3D highlights - I had him in my Lyon team in FM18, he'd regularly drop deep to pick up the ball in his wide AP-Su role then go past 3-4 players on his way into the box to either shoot or cross.

Yup he does the same on mine as an Inverted Winger, I cannot wait to see how much chaos him and Sancho cause on the flanks. I almost lost him to PSG, they came in with an offer and he wanted to go, but I managed to persuade him to stay with a new contract and that satisfied him, PSG then went and unsettled Bergwijn instead and I got £75 million for him, which is a profit of over £50 million from when I first bought him, bargain!...and I just looked back at the values of Gomes and Chong...£52million and £44.5 million respectively, that's insane

Between Martins and Sancho on the flanks, Pogba bossing the midfield, either Gomes or Alli causing chaos in the defensive line and either Lewandowski or Lukaku leading the line...opposition defences are going to be wetting themselves. All I need to worry about now is holding onto De Ligt. Barca haven't made any moves so far but I can smell a bid coming towards the end of the window. It'll be a challenge to persuade him to stay, but I'm positive I can convince him

Yeah that's some setup. I never really used Chong on my save, I don't really like how clubs buy in foreign 16 year olds - I think your youth team should just be from players your own scouts have found - so I just loaned him out. In my Ajax save Chong's been loaned out the past two seasons: first to Feyenoord, then PSV. If I didn't have so many options in wide positions I'd loan him so he can complete the set.

I'm managing to keep De Ligt at Ajax, you should be able to hold onto him. Any chance of a screenshot of him and perhaps the number of starts? I think it'd be neat to compare them, given mine hasn't left Eredivisie but has won the Champions League.

Season 4 Review: 2021/2022

20190220192056_1.thumb.jpg.93ca1bcd40268a0c5aae7ce8119cf7f3.jpg

As  you can see it could not have gone better with an unparalleled septuple! Going unbeaten in the league was a particular delight, as we only had one loss last season. The Champions League-final was played at Old Trafford, beating Liverpool there felt truly special as we went past them with six CL-trophies against their five. The under 23s and 18s were not to bad either, winning both league and cup (and losing in the final of the Youth-CL).

20190220192156_1.thumb.jpg.6ba6e7e1da1a9dc97e21964706a7c721.jpg

The standout performers were mostly the defensive players, Varane won player of the year, while Dalot won young player. That being said, picking up Cristiano Ronaldo in january for around 4 million pounds proved to be a bargain as he still has his goalscoring boots on at the ripe old age of 37, scoring 18 goals in just 20 starts.

20190220192221_1.thumb.jpg.9e7f942388caa26c3c8ea7e416616a99.jpg

This is the tactic I have been using for the past three seasons with small variations. Its purpose is to keep it tight at the back, while we attack the United-way with speed on the flanks, getting crosses in the box and pinning down the opposition. This year we conceded only 13 goals, while scoring 86, last season we conceded 18 goals while scoring 101, which gives you an idea of how successful this setup has been for us.

These were the ins and outs during the season. As you can see we sold Martial before the season, I did not want to, but he wanted out, and both Rashford and Lewandowski was ahead of him in the pecking order. Lukaku was sold in January to make room for Ronaldo, a bit strange perhaps as he may only last a season, but the plan is to promote Rashford to the striker position soon, and I have a boatload of talent down in the U23s.

These are my biggest talents in the u23s and u18s, and I am looking to promote a couple of them next season, because of this I am not planning to sell or buy that many. I am possibly looking to get rid of Sanchez as his wages is far too high for someone playing a rotational role in the side.

What I have liked about this save so far is that I have tried to manage the side in the spirit of Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson, both in terms of player-recruitment (some big signings with room to develop), youth development (promoting from within) and playing style (Attacking wide-play, not afraid of takings risks).

81 starts over 3 seasons, 3 goals and always a decent rating for each season, don't think he's been lower than 7.30 average per season

It's good to see other people are getting success with Chong, I'm a massive fan of his on this fm, he has developed very well for me. As have mentioned before he also developed well for the AI Man utd on my beta save.

So it's been a little while, but I have finally finished the 4th season, this season seemed to lasted forever.

It has been another great season, retaining the prem title, and making it 3 titles in a row, and 3 in 4 seasons.

466398783_season4league.thumb.png.23c105487ebe765f528211cbb9e1d2a1.png

We only conceded 12 league goals and was just short of 100 points, which was brilliant, as you can see Rashford was top goal scorer, and Bailey top assister. Also Pogba won players player and footballer of the year, with Rashford young player of the year. De Gea won golden glove again with 26 clean sheets. We had 6 players in team of the year, with Kouilbaly and Lindelöf yet again the spine of the team.

We also won the fa cup again. Making it 3 fa cup wins in 4 seasons as well.

1040765258_season4stats.thumb.png.48e1905eee1c8a4107e84d1b9dc3e30f.png

We did also win the European super cup and club world championship, but I'm not too bothered about them. Sadly we couldn't retain the champs league which was won by PSG.

Here was the season stats for my players.

697140923_season4stats1.thumb.png.91a35bcbec6d87168dd72b5cbf1826c7.png

One player that can't see on this list is Shaw who was excellent all season, and had the highest average rating. Belotti had a poor season and so did new signing Kluivert, who was a poor buy really.

So onwards to season 5. Now I did say if I won the league title for the 3rd time in a row, that I would sell a few and use the yougsters to keep the save fresh, so that's what I 've done.

1395873859_season5transfers.thumb.png.cce6e7bab27162078bbc9bdf58e3529d.png

No one in, Belotti and Militao who were brought in the 3rd season, struggled to settle in, so both went for a profit. Kluivert as mentioned was a poor buy, and Semedo gone as I've got Laird, made a nice 37mil profit on him. So out of 5 seasons, I have only spent more than 100 mil in 1 season, pretty lean spending for a man utd manager haha.

Puigmal has been promoted to the 1st team, along with 2 regens a centre half Latham who's decent, and a striker Farley.

farley.thumb.png.48440fc41f32df59c1221e26ea816316.png

Farley came through the youth intake in the 2nd season, and has developed incredibly well so far, he spent last season out on loan at 2 different clubs, so am excited to use him this season as back up to Rashford.

We now have 9 players aged 22 or under in the 1st team. Chong and Laird are the pick and have been the standout youngsters so far. So lets see how the youngsters fair for a season.

Looks slightly better than mine - I guess the PL games do count for more than Eredivisie games as I imagine we're on a par in terms of training facilities and quality of coaches. Have you sent him on a Leadership course? I notice it's the only attribute that's 2 points higher.

Only just started that at this current point in time, along with a few others in my squad

Or as I decided to term it, the Paul Pogba Demolition Derby. Seriously, you do NOT give Pogba the chance to shoot from 20/25 yards out or he'll make you pay. All three of his goals were long-range efforts. And props to Sancho for scoring on his debut/return to English football

HOLY GMOLI, nice one!! Have you tried going at a higher tempo by any chance? I've tested the high tempo myself and to some extent it works OKAY but time and time again i've seen great teams from this thread and others play at "slightly lower tempo" while their other parts are similar to mine and have little effect in short term. What kind of effects do you see yourself playing at when lowered tempo and disciplined instead of roaming?

Also are their any issues you've noticed such as ME issues like long shots, poor attacking movement etc. cause im guessing you haven't experienced it like some have inc me as that 9-0 shows something drastic I can't even get too with a top end team lol.

@BigV, I'm playing attacking which is already a high tempo mentality so the idea is to slow the play down and not to get the ball forward to quickly, which is why I don't like to use "counter" in the transition phase as the ball just gets kicked forward to quickly and I end up losing possession.playing this way my BBM is waiting on the edge of the area at least once a game to have a crack at goal. These are Gedson Fernandes's stats after 26 games and they're all screamers from the edge of the area where the play is measured, goes through the middle and then goes out wide, a cross or cutback comes in from either wing and if the striker doesn't get a shot at goal any ball cleared falls to the waiting BBM and he has a go at goal.

QaK3lDA.jpg?1

I do get a FAIR few blocked shots but they are from close range as opposed to long range efforts that do my head in.

@Jamesbfc1887

How about Laird? He is very decent back up. After season 3 you can buy hot prospect or even good regen for under 10-15mil £ for second choice.
