So here I am with my first FM19 save; of course I couldn't wait for full release so Beta it is :brock:. I've decided to do something a little different and changed sex! For me there was only one club that I could see pioneering a female manager (and taking it seriously, Clermont).

St. Pauli enjoys a certain fame for the left-leaning character of its supporters: most of the team's fans regard themselves as anti-racist, anti-fascist, anti-homophobic and anti-sexist. The organisation has adopted an outspoken stance against racism, fascism, sexism, and homophobia and has embodied this position in its constitution. St. Pauli were the first club in Germany to integrate a set of Fundamental Principles to dictate how the club is run. The Fundamental Principles were passed by an overwhelming majority at the St. Pauli Congress in 2009 and they go beyond solely football.

The first five Principles states that:

– "In its totality, consisting of members, staff, fans and honorary officers, St. Pauli FC is a part of the society by which it is surrounded and so is affected both directly and indirectly by social changes in the political, cultural and social spheres."

– "St. Pauli FC is conscious of the social responsibility this implies, and represents the interests of its members, staff, fans and honorary officers in matters not just restricted to the sphere of sport."

– "St. Pauli FC is the club of a particular city district, and it is to this that it owes its identity. This gives it a social and political responsibility in relation to the district and the people who live there."

– "St. Pauli FC aims to put across a certain feeling for life and symbolises sporting authenticity. This makes it possible for people to identify with the club independently of any sporting successes it may achieve. Essential features of the club that encourage this sense of identification are to be honoured, promoted and preserved."

– "Tolerance and respect in mutual human relations are important pillars of the St. Pauli philosophy.

My aim is to bring success to St Pauli under the guidance of Birgit Prinz, but in such a way that supports the principles above. We will be giving young local talent a chance whilst also embracing internationals from around the world and going forward as a sustainable, financially viable club. FM19, bring it on!

Love the backstory given there. It gives a clear insight as to why you have selected a female manager; which is also an interesting choice. St Pauli are a fantastic club and it'd be great to see you take them to the highest of successes. Good luck.

Thanks, the newly licenced German leagues got me jotting down ideas for a career there and this definitely tickles my fancy.

Why Birgit Prinz?

Birgit Prinz (born 25 October 1977) is a German retired footballer, two-time FIFA Women's World Cup champion and three-time FIFA World Player of the Year. In addition to the German national team, Prinz played for FFC Frankfurt in the Frauen-Bundesliga as well as the Carolina Courage in the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), the first professional women's league in the United States. Prinz remains one of the game's most prolific strikers and is the second FIFA Women's World Cup all-time leading scorer with 14 goals (second only to Marta from Brazil). On 12 August 2011, she announced the end of her active career. She currently works as a sport psychologist for the men's and women's teams of 1. Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

e5bfe28668f3f5cf3e1e4dfbfadc7737.png

One of the greatest ever players of the female game, qualified sport psychologist working in professional football, almost played men's football for Perugia and she's a motivational speaker. She ticks all the boxes in terms of being 'the' woman that takes the football management world by storm.

As expected, Koln and Hamburg are favourites to go straight back up and their players dominate the dream 11. There are two automatic places to go up and one promotion/relegation play-off spot in 3rd place. We've got an outside chance of it, but at this stage I'd just be happy to meet our expectations!

Meet The Squad

c8855ea4f0a3ad48a36caaa9799ac141.png

At first glance it looks like a well balanced, rounded squad. No glaring weak areas, but no 'stars' either. I'm happy with that to start with.

Tactics - Gegenpress

a727a2fe482be1c69956c1f3250e9bd8.png

Gegenpress. Well, it would be rude not to! I see the 4-2-3-1 as our best default shape, but I've also loaded up the 4-1-4-1 and 4-4-2 diamond midfield options as backups. No plan B, it's all out gegenpress or nothing!

Key Players

b3e8e6371f0d9a206b8f995eb0e1510f.png

Not the greatest in the air, but he's a pacey type centre back who's also good on the ball. He should fit the style perfectly.

21ac854f82fc12ef202a14cc2d9e44cd.png

Nehrig is the club captain and has made over 100 appearances for the club. He's a grafter and that's exactly what we'll need in the middle.

9f7b05e98d6ed14234952e34307b3d2f.png

Flum isn't as solid defensively as Nehrig, but he's a good all rounder who I reckon will work well as a box-to-box midfielder.

1d09ab0e253c2248b787281a1e5a0148.png

I'm hoping Cenk Sahin will be our Mo Salah. Okay, I'm not expecting him to be quite as prolific in front of goal with finishing and composure in the single figures, but he's got the pace to frighten defenders, works hard enough and he's well rounded technically.

5c2a23991211dbebc28cc47ec23c9635.png

Not as hard-working as many of his other teammates, but former Man Utd youth player Daehli has the quality to unlock defences when we're struggling to break teams down.

7cc693ca5fd4adeab3f18a4ff962915c.png

Miyaichi is our speedster, watch out full-backs! He spent most of last season out with damaged cruciates, so fingers crossed he can stay injury free!

889979dbbcd65f9a7a53206c8c8b04ef.png

Now onto my personal favourite. Brave, determined and hard-working, as well as well rounded physically and technically. He's an excellent example of a pressing forward.

2018/19 - Pre-Season Campaign

a2cb40f81403dbbe4ddf34935864d1eb.png

Well, that went a hell of a lot better than expected! Big wins against slightly better opposition in AEK, Stoke and Twente, while we were defensively solid against lower ranked sides. Very, very happy with this start.

August Training

dd9721cf991180ff3a75cb699be67602.png

I left the majority of our pre-season training to my assistant while I was working out what was going on, but I've planned August's training as above. All players are training in their most likely individual roles as well, let's see how it goes!

I haven't read the book, but it's meant to be excellent.

I'm liking the back-story and the female manager aspect. It's everyone's favourite German club isn't it?

I haven't read it yet, but it's on the list! If it's not everyones favourite club it should be ;)

Nice start thus far. What are your first impressions of the game?

Very impressed, like the new tactical layout and now I'm getting to grips with the training I like that too. Much more realistic! Can't say too much on the 3D match engine as my laptop can't handle it so I've gone 2D Classic

August 2018 Update

A 100% record in our opening competitive month. Darmstadt almost nicked points in St Pauli but we managed a late win.

Table

It's early days, but there are only two clubs that have won their opening games and it's us and the enemy!

Player of the Month

Ryo Miyaichi has unsurprisingly been injured. Daehli moved out to AML and Buchtmann stepped up as our attacking mid. With 2 goals and 3 assists in 4 games and an average rating over 8 he's been a revelation!

First points dropped, but still unbeaten. Happy with the result against Cologne, gutted with dropping 2 points vs Paderborn, could have been all 3 if Flum didn't bang in a goal off the bench. Our keeper did a Pickford, but conceded :seagull:. Nevertheless, a great start!!

Unusual for a player who missed 2 games through injury to be named POTM, but Knoll has been superb all season so far and his presence was sorely missed in the last two games. He's regularly our best performer in training too!

The Hamburg Derby Is Coming

We're now at 26th October...we face our arch rivals Hamburg at their place on 28th October. It's all set up for a cracker!

We're one point ahead and on a high after a late win against Kiel. Hamburg lost their first game of the season against fellow high-flyers Darmstadt. In real life this game finished 0-0. I'd take that, but I'd love it if we beat them. Love it! :brock:

Here's how the teams line up. Their FB will be hard to break down and their attacking force is quite frightening, but with our fans behind us we believe.

Disheartening to let a two goal lead slip in a derby like that, but away from home and with such a long time with 10 men it's not bad on the face of it - and like you said you'd have taken the point beforehand.

Interesting angle on the save with the female angle, and love the logic to the choice of club and manager candidate - especially the details with her managerial attributes.

2018/19 Mid-Season Update

Results

5fd77fe6b1a9b1a15e1cca79d163ffcf.png

After the much awaited Hamburg derby we faced Bundesliga opposition in the cup and suffered our first defeat at the hands of Freiburg. We had a 100% record in November and went unbeaten in December, both thanks to 93rd minute goals. Loving the late goals we score!

League Table

689d3cbd8d2f70f599390fc96f0b8b0c.png

Still unbeaten and neck-and-neck with Darmstadt (excuse the SS obstruction!). Hamburg have fallen off the pace a bit with two straight defeats but I'm sure they'll come fighting back. Meanwhile, Cologne are miles off the pace.

Player Stats

d9d19acccfc0bdf7f542b9aaad15004b.png

A fair amount of rotation, due to injuries, fatigue and form, but a rather well settled squad, if not a consistent first 11.

Top Performers

Knoll has really been proving his worth at the back, whilst adding 3 goals and 2 assists too.

22673ef403ed3814c84a6b503ec81021.jpg

Sahin's trickiness is a constant problem for opposition, though as expected his finishing is rather inconsistent. He should be in double figures!

Buchtmann has gone off the boil a bit recently, but his early season form was sublime.

January 2019 Update

Results

36f31c1d6adacf659d547330441d0ebb.png

The team had 24th December - 3rd January completely off to reward a great first half of the season and they proved they could get back to business. We made Celtic look like a junior side and got a nice win against Dresden in our first league game of 2019.

Transfers In

Grosskreutz ~ Uduokhai ~ Dudl ~ Nielsen ~ Jensen

We took the opportunity to strengthen in January, first off by signing experienced grafter Kevin Grosskreutz. He's excellent for the system as well as versatile, although he hasn't got the blistering pace he once had (fond memories of him from fm13). Former wonderkid Felix Uduokhai joined on deadline day for another chance. He's still only 21, so plenty of time to live up to his potential. Dudl is another youngster who will be our backup left back, while loanees Nielsen and Jensen fit the system well and add depth.

Transfers Out

b20fdd3e5b2be052d233ad3157e08ffb.png

Allagui, Yi-Young and Dudziak were the trio I was looking to move on and I managed to do so for a bit of cash for the latter two. Veerman was moaning about not starting enough games, but he's simply not hardworking enough to be our first choice pressing forward so he's been shipped back where he came from.

Uduokhai is an absolute steal. That's a top, top player in the making, especially with the tactics you're implementing, a very good January.

Also got a chuckle over the support of Titz, fanastic stuff, fully agree as well.

Agreed, even though he had a poor debut and got injured in his 2nd game I think he's going to work out well in the end *touch wood*. Hamburg shall now be known as the Titz :D

March - April 2019 Update

78277fad335deac329ed0017d2c18d4a.png

After the great win against Hamburg we followed up with a win against struggling Sandhausen. A combination of a big break in competitive games and a bit of complacency thinking the promotion job is done lead to a poor April. Just two wins in 5 and our first home loss :(.

80e2f2e64e5b546ed3f3add053a43e86.png

Hamburg kicked on with some fine form and are now just one point behind us. 3 games left and it's a title race in Hamburg! Can't discount Darmstadt though at just 4 points behind us.
