Training screen - why is Excellent Training Facilities at the top - there's an acre of space on the Other Tactics area.

Thats a subtitle, for the heading of the page you are on. Been in the game a while now.....

It says "Excellent Training Facilities" - surely that's a reference to your training facilities quality.

It could say the name of your training ground. And then have it elsewhere the quality with a button to request an upgrade if available by the board.

Such wasted screen real estate.

This is always a gripe of mine, hopefully we can do someting to make better use of real estate on higher resolution settings when we get our hands on the pre-release beta.

Thoughts so far:

  • So complete new training. But not completely back to CM4(?) with individual training routines, but close. Will be interesting to see how it works.
  • Redesign of the tactics screen. Hard to see how it should be used on a single screenshot, but it looks nice enough.
  • Very.... purple...? Not that I mind, it's just very noticeable.
  • Exciting to see how it works in videos.
  • Oh, just noticed the biggest thing! TRANSITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS! My suggestion came through! WOOOO!

Pressing forward, that's a new role.

No it's not, defensive forward has been in the game for years now...

Not to forget about all that space beneath the pitch - the pitch shape could have been longer in the above pic.

Is it just me that gets annoyed by the capitalisation in the screen titles? SQUAD, LEON BAILEY. Looks so amateurish and I’m surprised it’s remained.

I understand the change to the new interface because of the new logo that has been put in. Personally, though, I want to see the new log-in screen to see what we will get when we get on for the first time.

Completely agree! The graphic side of the game still looks like it was created in early 2000’s by a kid in art class.

Even FM05 looked a lot better than this!

Love all the armchair hate and critique, it's fairly amusing but it crosses a line when you start being insulting.

It's subjective; I don't like the font, but no need to throw insults like "a kid in an art class".

The menu list on the left with tactics, training, dynamics etc. should be in the colour of the team. Like Watfrod's should be yellow, Chelsea's should be blue etc..

We have to consider all resolutions when designing screens. The screenshot used there is not at the minimum resolution (1024x768).

We also have to consider different languages which can considerably lengthen text widths compared to the English versions.

There is analysis content that appears underneath the pitch once you have played a match.

Fair point would have thought percentage sizing would be used though.

And other areas could offer shortcuts to board requests etc. Like mentioned earlier

Manage a team in purple then :brock:

Looks don't stay the same forever, I think it works quite well personally from the screenshots.

A couple of observations. Firstly, I think the new font looks quite nice. There's a hint of a CM3 classic feel to it.

I don't particularly like that thing with all the lines in the top left... what would you call it? A watermark? Personally, I feel that it's a little unnecessary and unclean, but that's my only major criticism of the new look, which is otherwise pretty sleek.

And I presume there'll be a lighter skin as well on release, right? I'm planning on managing Fiorentina in my first save, and I don't want to suffer from 'Purple Overload' - or, should I say, 'Purple Very Attacking'. ;)

Liking the new style for this years game. The training and tactics improvements look great, Bundesliga licensing for the top two divisions is a welcome addition and overdue, the manager induction looks interesting, VAR for a bit of drama and the ME improvements of course.

Bring it on!

Yes, horrible that definately has to change via skins and backgrounds for me, tbh i had 2005 or something that was so lovely green and you nearly could semll the turf and every FM sinc ethen just doens thave tht feel somehow. Purple is special though , with the different clubs cplours combined it really reminds me of being sick.

That current colour scheme reminds me of a C64 or Amiga game wow all those colours that dont match and are cluttered all over so much better than pink CGA. :-D Seriously the scheme reminds me of this or at best a 2001 game.

I wanna smell the grass again :-)

The field display is still inferior to FM2014 which showed role, condition, form, and mentality on a compact manner.

Reminds me of the FM2016 blocks disaster; why break something that isn't broken?

FM12 was even nicer

In fact - I'd say FM12 had the nicest interface of the lot. It was so sleek and unclunky.

I just checked and you're right. It was so long ago that I didn't even remember.

Way better knowing the condition while still looking at the field, as well as no giant column for role which takes a chunk out of the column space you can add for your own columns.

FM10 IU was so nice.

SI is 10 years late regarding user interface. Compare with the modern UI of fifa.

I still don't know why they went away from it, and I still don't know why they haven't gone back to it.

Every year it gets worse and worse. And this year is no exception.

I'm not having a dig at the UI team, I know it's a tough job and not all decisions are based on personal style, but collective from SI staff.

I just feel it has gone backwards for about 6 years. Last time I heard, the UI team are the development team, and as such they don't have UI training, which really shows. It looks like a developers tool box in regards to where things are located.

I think they really should invest in hiring UI specialists to make the interface sleek again.

Apologies if I offended anyone at the SI team. Just my personal feelings.

Your preconceptions are wrong as well.

There are UI specialists in the UI team, thats what they are there for.

A lot of work goes into planning and improving UI over multiple iterations across the team. Things will change year on year and sometimes its subtle as well.

I have no idea where you've got these ideas from but frankly you've been badly informed.

It would be helpful to provide actionable feedback on what you think is wrong and why, rather than flippant comments like it "looks like a developers tool box". They aren't mind readers, I'm not even sure what you're getting at here.

Calm down - I have given actionable feedback in this thread and also other times. And the last 6 years my comments and suggestions have largely been ignored. Hence the disappointment.

I read it on here before that the UI is done by the development team, apologies I can't find the thread.

If I'm misinformed then I'm sorry. But I can only go on information I have.

Purple being chosen for the interface is really odd but I don't really mind much anyways.

I presume the striking colours are so that you can see the chosen option without needing to read the text (which reduces the possibility of player oversights). Though I have my doubts on how those colors could work for color-blind people...

I can definitely understand why you think suggestions may have been ignored, but thats not really true in my experience. Things are taken on board, sometimes into discussions or as suggestions, but it's been mentioned multiple times by Miles that they have ideas for the next 3 years of games or something like that. So, when you think about putting in a suggestion, its very possible that might not see fruition for some time, because they already know where they are going.

It's always helpful for them with feedback but at the end of the day the look of the game does have to change and evolve over the years. Personally I think the FM12 look is very dated now. I did like the green colour scheme and was a big fan of it in those years (minus the grey), but the game can't look the same forever or people will wonder from screenshots what are they paying money to pre-order for.

I have no doubt they have people hired just for the UI. But sadly I still think it the last many years has been getting worse and worse, with FM18 being the absolutely worst of them all from a UI standpoint. Still after hours and hours of the game, I feel like it's extremely unintuitive. You have to click several times to see stuff you saw on one screen before, many things are big and ugly, lots of wasted space.... Just feels like a huge mess.

This is such a great example, and there is many more examples of this in almost every screen.  So much easier to get an overview over, you can see most of the things you need to know easily and so on. Compared to the new one, and it's just miles apart in quality.
