But that's two quality chances they've now had denied by Vodicka in the Partizan goal...you have to wonder if they'll want those back come the end of the night, like Fellaini." "That makes no sense. ManUtd1
An utterly insane season. ManUtd1
I try to avoid having thoughts. They lead to other thoughts, and—if you’re not careful—those lead to actions. Actions make you tired. Borussia Mönchengladbach / Croatia -- 2033/34 Season Review It's 4am and the festivities have yet to die down. And who can blame them, really? They've earned this moment, and need to enjoy it. It doesn't hurt that the sizable traveling contingent from Serbia have joined in -- sure, they're disappointed, but they know the better squad won on the night, and many had already adopted Gladbach as their second team. Zlatan, Drake and I sit alone in silence, each enjoying a glass of champagne. Nothing needs to be said. We all know the time has come to move on. And Drake would rather not return to Germany any time soon -- his annulment proceedings are moving steadily along, and there's nothing back there for him anyways. I stand slowly, stretching, letting the moment last, before wandering off down the hall to talk to the Chairman. He knows I'm coming. He knows why. He understands. Goals for 2034/35: Make a run at the World Cup. Wait patiently for the right club job to open up (all eligible clubs currently have managers). ManUtd1
Ok, a quick glance at the European tables before my focus shifts to Croatia and the World Cup. The Premier League continues to be a near-realistic scenario, as the unstoppable juggernaut that is Mourinho's United claims their 4th straight title. Speaking of juggernauts, PSG rumbles along, as does Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid. Juventus takes its turn at the top in Serie A. But we have to talk about Partizan...after 8.5 years and 315 matches, they finally lost in the Super Liga -- a 3-2 reverse away to Rad on April 29, 2034. Frankly, I don't think that is a streak that will be touched in this save. Brugge reclaimed the title in Belgium. Shakhtar sailed through the Ukrainian domestic calendar. Olympiacos in Greece...obviously, even if AEK and PAOK have shown glimmers of promise. And AIK continued Stockholm's reign of terror in Sweden. Leicester claimed the Europa League, beating Fiorentina 1-nil in the final. Appearances from Crvena Zvezda and Besiktas in the quarterfinals were also promising. ManUtd1
Croatian Squad Review, June 2034 Ok, for those of you who are following this thread closely, none of these players will be new to you. Nevertheless, I want to give everyone a quick look at who's who. This is essentially the same squad that won the Euros 2 years ago, the Nations League and Confederations Cup in 2033. We should be more than good enough to challenge this year and (ranked #1 in the World) have to be the favorites. I used instant result on the 2 pre-tournament friendlies -- too much going on to play them with any measure of seriousness. At this point, I plan to play the 1st XI against Belgium and El Salvador, with the 2nd XI against Uruguay to prepare for the 2nd Round. If we advance, we'll face a team from Group E which is comprised of Brazil, Greece, Mexico and Saudi Arabia. Goalkeepers No changes here. Trbuhovic is still my starter. Kalaica and Roguljic are very capable backups. Defenders The starting CBs are still Alvir, Kznar and Brekalo. Loncaric, Zivkovic and Kramaric are the backup CBs. Nemanic and Pavicic are the starting wingbacks, with Bagaric and Gluic as their backups. Central Midfielders Mitrecic and Peric remain my starters, backed up by Smoljan and Brcic. A solid 4. Attacking Midfielders Up top, we've got Janjis flanked by Antic and Ivankovic. Mocinic returns to the side, and will play with Sutalo and Juric in the 2nd XI. Final Thoughts This squad is far, far better than what we went to the World Cup with, 4 years ago, and has grown since winning the Euros 2 years ago. All we need is to show up and put it together on the field. So much skill, lots of depth. 6 years into my tenure, there can be no excuses. ManUtd1
Japan 2034; World Cup -- Group Stage Six years building to this point, and we walk out into our first match against Belgium, only to fall flat on our faces. Hit on the counter. They beat us at our own game, 2-1. It is our first loss since October 2030, against France. Knowing that we would need our 1st XI fit to face Uruguay in a decisive 3rd match, I play the 2nd XI against El Salvador. They take care of business with a workman-like 2-nil win, but Uruguay have beaten Belgium, meaning we need to win and hope that El Salvador gives us a hand. The squad rotation pays massive dividends, as we control the match from the outset and run away with it in the end. 6 nil. Incredibly, El Salvador manage to steal a win over Belgium, meaning that we go through at the top of the Group, with Uruguay in 2nd. We'll face Brazil in the Second Round, while the shattered Uruguayans will take on Mexico.
ManUtd1
Japan 2034; World Cup -- Second Round A brutal match against a physical Brazil side. We fall behind twice, forced to rely on set pieces and an own goal to take the lead in the 2nd half. It's only with our 4th goal that we see the football Croatia have become known for. At this stage, it doesn't have to be pretty. A win will suffice.
ManUtd1
Japan 2034; World Cup -- Quarterfinals A much more comprehensive display, even if the Italians kept it tight at the back with their 532. Mitrecic buried one off a Janjis corner, and it was all we needed. Even when the cheaters put a 3rd man up top, it wasn't enough. We'll face the giant-killing Czechs, who've eliminated both Germany and Argentina in the knockout rounds.

ManUtd1
Japan 2034; World Cup -- Semifinals Perhaps the most stubbornly-resilient team we've faced yet, the Czechs are a puzzle to be picked. A 59th minute goal after a wicked deflection, we were forced to chase the game...yet Boris and Kristian found a way through. We're into the final lads, by the skin of our teeth. My only hope is that our rotation throughout the knockout rounds will pay dividends. Tired legs, but willing hearts. We're 90 minutes from glory, lads. You've got to want it. ManUtd1
Japan 2034; World Cup -- Semifinals We've got most of our 1st XI ready to roll. Yokohama Stadium. My former side, Mexico, stand in our way. Given their narrow tactics, I've instructed the lads to attack the flanks and, at the outset, look to hit them on the counter. They've got immense talent up top that we need to be wary of. All that is to be said, has been said. We are the ones we have been waiting for. Let's do this, gentlemen. ManUtd1
The first 20 minutes are calm. Neither side wishes to make the first mistake. But I don't like our side when we're too cautious. ManUtd1
And in the blink of an eye, we snatch the goal we've been seeking. ManUtd1
Where no paths exist, a man strays only when he misses his destination. Portugal -- July 2034 A whirlwind week. I've barely shaken the jet lag associated with our return from Japan and the wild celebrations in Croatia...even though we were on our way out the door, we were treated like kings. We've come a long ways from training in a carpark, haven't we. The job I really wanted -- Scotland -- wasn't available, but I still talked it up in the media, if only to irritate that **** Brendan. In the end, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands came knocking. Spain? Not interested. And the Dutch will face Croatia in the Nations League this fall...I can't do that. So it is decided. We're off to the land of Cristiano himself...truth be told, I'm surprised he didn't put in for the job. But his loss is my gain.

Their team is utterly insane (screenshots of a few players above). And for the sake of the narrative I couldn't see Jean going to the Dutch, where he'd be immediately faced with going up against Croatia. Now, I have to be somewhat picky about what club I go to, to make sure they compliment each other.
