FM2018 Crash everytime on Startup

Recommended Posts

I am playing FM2018 almost a year now without any issues. All of a sudden when I tried to boot FM2018 it crashed immediately after I see the loading screen of FM2018. I already tried several things like clearing preferences/caches. I tried most of the steps mentoined on this blog: https://community.sigames.com/faq/football-manager-2018/136_technical-support/142_pc/i%E2%80%99ve-encountered-a-crash-dump-on-launching-the-game-r433/

Does any one else has this problem and has any idea to solve this?

Just to be more precise I tried the following already:

  • Delete cache
  • Delete preferences
  • Verify files
  • Update GPU drivers (Intel Graphics 530)
  • Uninstall/reinstall FM 2018
  • Uninstall/reinstall Steam
  • Try to run in Windowed mode
  • Windows 10 is up to date
  • Reboot of the machine several times

Please find attached one of the latest crash dump files.

Hopefully someone has a solution on this, because it is frustrating me a lot that I cannot continue my game.

Seems a problem related to the update, the three most probable causes are as follows:

- An issue related to graphics card drivers. We would suggest users uninstall and reinstall their graphics card drivers as shown here - https://community.sigames.com/faq/football-manager-2018/134_how-to/138_pc/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-my-graphics-card-drivers-r405/

- An issue related to custom graphics/logos/skins and especially custom ad hoardings. We would suggest users remove all custom graphics/add-ons for the time-being to see if that stops the issue occurring.

- An anti-virus conflict related to the anti-virus program incorrectly identifying the update as a threat. There's a troubleshooting thread on how to change your settings, but some users have found that the only way to test this is to remove their current AV program (making sure Windows Defender is still active) then uninstall and reinstall FM - https://community.sigames.com/faq/football-manager-2018/134_how-to/138_pc/how-to-make-sure-that-an-anti-virus-program-isnt-interfering-with-steam-or-fm -r408/

Let us know how you get on with the above. Thanks.

Thanks for your comments.

I tried all of the above mentoined options + reinstalled FM2018 once again, unfortunately with no luck.

There is no extra antivirus scan on the computer so it cannot interfer.

Are there any other options?

PS: sorry for the late response but I was enjoying a week of holiday.

As the above do not work, some users have found that if you're on a laptop with an integrated Intel card as well as the Nvidia card, if you run off the Intel card it works. Or failing that you can roll back to a March Nvidia driver and may well work.

Details on how to switch between the graphics cards here - https://community.sigames.com/faq/football-manager-2018/134_how-to/138_pc/how-to-configure-my-laptop-to-run-football-manager-with-optimal-settings-r409/

The March Nvidia driver can be found at the following links, please check to make sure your graphics card is listed on the 'Supported Products'

Desktop graphics cards

Laptop graphics cards

Let us know how you get on with the above. Thanks.

Finally it workes out!

I switched by using the integrated driver instead of the nvidia which is normally selected as default.

The question remains: How can this happen suddenly?

The sad thing about this is that the game is now pretty slow, almost not workable. This is mostlikely because of the use of the other graphic card

Some users have been reporting issues with Nvidia drivers and have found that if you are having issues you can uninstall and reinstall your GPU drivers as shown here - https://community.sigames.com/faq/football-manager-2018/134_how-to/138_pc/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-my-graphics-card-drivers-r405/

If this doesn't work, we suggest doing as stated below:

- Right-click on desktop and go to the nVidia Control Panel
- Click on the 'Manage 3D Settings' tab.
- Under Global Settings make sure everything is active.
- For the ones that only have the options of 'Off', 'Quality', or 'Performance', please choose 'Quality'.
- Then confirm to save your changes

This should allow the game to run without issue. If you're still having issues after all of the above, we would recommend rolling back to drivers released in March which are confirmed to work with the game if you want to use your Nvidia drivers:

Nvidia Desktop Drivers: https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/132845/en-us

Nvidia Laptop Drivers: https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/132842/en-us

Let us know how you get on with the above and whether it fixes your issue.

Thanks.
