defenders never usually win it but him and Umtiti are a major reason why France have became world champions

Specifically bc of the way France chose to play the knock out phase you could argue they have been the best players since the group stage. Varane a notch above imho.

France deservedly. Still a pretty disgusting team, having easily the best team and still lacking ambition to actually play throughout the tournament. But that obviously works.

Just dawned on me.

It must be some cosmic force that put things into balance.
After most of these players won a lot of games by delibarate refereeing mistakes in our league, now it was put back into balance. Unfortunately for them, in the worst possible game.

France was extremely lucky to escape after playing their worst game in the knockout stage...Lot of players played mainly scared (except Griezmann, who was imo the best player in the final), and they were terrible in midfield (much better after Nzonzi entrance)...

Croatia played extremely well, much better than against Russia and Danemark (couldn't see them against England) ...

Rio Ferdinand hopes his old club are chasing Mbappe. I don't think he'll fancy a move to Leeds or QPR, somehow.

Agreed. Neither are even in the Prem. 😁

He'd love it at West Ham though :brock:

British pundits saying there will be a whole host of clubs chasing him now, as if A) they hadn't heard of him before and B) PSG hadn't just signed him for like £200 million :D

First time we've won something at a WC since 1986, might as well have an open top bus parade for Kane's Golden Boot.

I like the idea of having it just for the Golden Boot itself, like the inanimate carbon rod in an old episode of the Simpsons :D

Doesn't have enough Championship experience anyway imo, wouldn't want him

Imo, Varane felt safer in defence than Umtiti, who is prone to trying crazy dribbling as a last defender (did that once this final at 0-0 and was almost stripped of the ball by Mandzukic)

So it would mean Harry Kane being as involved as the games against Sweden and Croatia.

£160m. Don't think it's silly to say he could leave this summer if a club is prepared to pay like £220m-£250m for him.

Umtiti's most notable moment of the first VAR tournament was when he inexplicably decided to play goalkeeper at a standard, fairly non-threatening set piece...

Pogba is everything I hate about people with his attitude. The celebrations, dabbing, mimicking, sending kisses, thinking too much of himself, whatever. Like a cartoon character.

The Wales manager, on ITV on being asked if Croatia can hold their heads high for not freezing on the big stage comes out with the hot take that he thinks France in fact froze.

Yeah, that's always good to hear from your countries manager.

yeah, every game, there is at least a moment where you know he will do something incredibly stupid...the rest of the time he is still ****ing good

France played like crap the whole final, they felt clearly under pressure and disjointed early. That was clearly their worst match and at time they were in panic mode (like during first Croatian goal)...

Griezmann was huge in this game (and during the whole knockput phase), with his set pieces being top notch, very good attitude (pressing) and was clearly the leader of this team...

Well done Croatia and well done France too. What a fun world Cup this was. Pride restored to England, some really good games, some good team performances, plenty of teams overperforming and some underperforming. What a lot of fun that was.
