Quarter Final: France vs Uruguay

Recommended Posts

Umtiti has 'done a Wilshere' and just ran into someone and lost the ball a couple of times now.

Its an horrible error but Neville talks a load of crap, no way could he have caught that with how it moved. The mistake was not getting his body behind the ball for the parry.

Modern footballs are ****ing ridiculous in how unstable they are.

That was 100% on Muslera, the shot wasn't powerful and it was straight down his throat until he decided to move to the side for some odd reason.

It's actually more incredible that such a small country can produce such two great strikers like Cavani and Suárez...

And two great CBs in Godin and Gimenez, too. And they're different generations.

I think that's what he meant - take it into your chest and catch rather than go with the hands and parry

And that not that long ago Cavani was basically playing wingback because of Diego Forlan being up front.

I’ve liked this ref throughout the tournament but feel like he’s sending this game the way of England Colombia

Saw that a mile off :D

The keepers play percentages though, you could try the catch as you suggest but with the power and movement on average you'd make more mistakes catching than you would parrying. A similar body postion for the parry would give him more leverage behind the ball to force it off course.

Look again. It moved sideways just before it got to him.

Not sure what he can do there. Looks like Mbappe just goes down and fakes it. Problem is that Uruguay has to let ref handle it. But just like Columbia, they don’t have any interest in the ref. And should be cautioned collectively for that reaction.

Why does every European vs South American game descend into chaos.

Because all South American sides are dirty and cheating and lose their heads once they are losing.

Other nations do this too of course but the SA sides are the worst.

Should've give yellow to Pogba too

Absolutely. But missed that one amid the stupidity.

There's been some world-class play-acting at this World Cup. :applause:

We can safely say Neymar's got the Fallon D'Floor sewn up for 2018, but who's to say Mbappe won't be taking that accolade in the future?

Super tough save that even tho right at him. Doesn’t help that it was a pretty free rip.

Another reason why Belgium vs Brazil will be fun to watch then

I don’t get it. No goals so has to draw attention? Embarrassing and good that he got a yellow.

It also looked as if Suarez threw a punch in the background - may have been shrugging someone off.

Neville is truly awful.

Whoopsy butterfingers!

That ball did move in the air more than you would expect, but it's pretty impressive that Muslera contrived to let that through him.

If Urretaviscaya ever plays in the Premier League, we can only hope Paul Merson never has to cover one of his games on Soccer Saturday.

Depends really. Neymar will be a scumbag regardless. The rest of the team might get in on it should Belgium take the lead.

The potential narratives in the game later today are interesting.

That's true, most goalkeeping mistakes start from something they do wrong before the ball has even been hit.

It's not really a complicated name.

Anyone else think Griezmann has been really anonymous as a whole this WC? He's not done anything to write home about, and I include his 3 goals in the tournament there.

For an English speaker it isn't the easiest name to pronounce. Even looking at it, I'm still not 100% sure how it should be pronounced.

Watched the second goal again and the ball didn't move that much?

Muslera just moved to the side, maybe he was trying to judge the ball movement ahead of time or something and he went too far. Very poor all round.

Yeah, but people from England are generally terrible at pronouncing non-English names

It's got late movement, but because he was never set, he was never able to properly react to the movement

True, but his set piece taking has been great.

Noone mentioned it, but when he stopped during the run up for that free kick, Uruguayan defense kind of stopped and lost their positioning, allowing Umtiti to be left unmarked.

Not his best moment. But it did swerve right at the end. And he wasn’t really closed down so the shot was hit was everything he had. Still should save it.

Was thinking this before this game tbh. Compared to Euro 2016 were he ran the show for France and got the goals to get them to the final, his all round game at this WC hasn't been as good, he's got three goals though, including a penalty and a goal that should have been saved.

Maybe with the emergence of Mbappe, he's kind of slacked off a little bit?
