Group F Conclusion - Korea Republic VS Germany & Mexico VS Sweden (3pm BST)

Recommended Posts

And there's the obligatory Leroy Sané name-drop by the commentators.

If Germany put a player on the right side that can actually cross or cut a ball back with accuracy they might have a better chance at scoring.

This German team is immobile.

Hector and Kimmich on fullbacks, Ozil out wide, Khedira in the middle.

Mexico's passing accuracy has dropped from the Korea game. :thdn:

Korea almost down to 1 pass per minute.

"Kremlin means 'fortress', by the way."

So suddenly Jonathan Pearce is now an expert on Russian etymology as well as Russian history. Interesting.

Korea working their ass off, hopefully they don't pay for this later on.

They lack pace and creativity big time.

People can say the whole Sané situation is boring and that he doesn't perform for Germany, but when he played for them and was apparently poor, Germany were winning. Now they're not. Even against Sweden they held the lead for about 20 seconds before the FT whistle.

Tune in for the football, stay for the history lesson.

As I wrote a couple of times, Low didn't take him because of his escapades beofre the last year's Confederations Cup.

And he's not that kind of a player that would change much by himself.

Hell, Low has Brandt who offered more than any other offensive player and he didn't start him, yet again.

Still think that's a penalty to Sweden, just uses his arm to control the ball.

He's started 6 games for Germany, people saying he doesn't perform for them are being ridiculous

Low's policy of picking the same players despite their form has lasted 1 tournament too many

Sané not the kind of player to change a game on his own? :D

I do agree about Brandt though. As I said in the Bundesliga thread, he's been exciting and dangerous in 16 mins or something. Exactly what Germany haven't looked for now 225.

Weird how VAR didn't give us a penalty. It definetly hit his hand.

Hernandez blatantly controlled the ball with his arm. No surprise Phil Neville would disagree, absolute dunce.

Yes.

He would help with creativity and penetration issues on the wings, but he can't change Hector and Kimmich moving like tractors, Khedira not having a sprint button and Ozil looking like his usual melancholic self.

Shearer tearing into Werner, looks tidy but never a lone striker.

I'm hoping for Korea to take the lead just as Sweden fall behind so that Jonathan Pearce spontaneously combusts.

Should replace Khedira with Brandt and move Goretzka to a deeper role where he has excelled.

That's nonsense. He's not the kind of guy who needs his FB to move much. He played with Delph sitting in CM as his LB countless times. He picks the ball up and runs at defenders, causes panic, he's the sort of thing Germany lack right now.

He's also fantastic at beating multiple opponents and passing it to the forwards - something Werner looks like he needs because he isn't get any opportunities centrally.

I know I'm not exactly an impartial observer but it looked like a simple case of 'ball to hand' to me, without it being deliberate. Even if it was, Mexico have been on the receiving end of controversial decisions enough times that it's about time it happened the other way around.

Not really. He's better than Brandt.

Tough one to call, it's certainly not clear-cut.

Shearer: we've looked at it 4 or 5 times and its not obvious so the ref is correct its not a penalty

Jenas & Drogba: Penalty

Another poor half of football from Germany.

Too slow and one dimensional. Werner is getting no service.

You would say that.

Fantastic player, but let's not assume he'd be lighting up the tournament just cos' he's not there.

I think the argument's mute. There's plenty of room for Sane and Brandt in this German team.

It's not really a comparison is it? Sané has just played in the CL QFs, won a Carabao Cup, won the PL, scored 11 and assisted 14 times this season.

Brandt is going to be one hell of a player but he's just played in the equivalent to a team like Burnley.

@D_LO_ I actually agree. I don't think it should've been one or the other. It should have been both.

That logic is very flawed... Going by that, Perica Ognjenovic is a much better player than Juan Carlos Valeron because he played for Real Madrid.
