Gutted to see you lost on penalties in CL Final :( Cracking amount of money for De Jong  60 goals in 106 apps is decent!

Such a shame you lost Carcedo :(

Going to be interesting to see if we get there again. And yeah, with de Jong it would've been selfish to turn down - he's coming out of his prime.

Lost a load of staff this summer, nothing you can do when they want to go. Still the best in the league in most categories.

Wolfsburg - 2033-34 - Pre-season

Just a few deals this year. Admittedly I signed Flores because I didn't want City to have him but he is quality. Manning is de Jong's replacement. I think we did very well to get him for that fee. Likewise, English clubs like Tottenham and Man City wanted him and with me likely jumping ship to England (thinking either the easy way at Chelsea or a challenge with Wolves or Crystal Palace) in the next few seasons (might take a few easy runs at the titles in Spain and Italy first e.g. Barcelona and Juventus) it made sense to bring him across.

In honesty, with results day coming up this Thursday and the start of school soon after, I think this save is coming towards its last few seasons. I usually wind down FM by this point, to be honest, but it has been different this year as I only bought the game in mid-June due to exams. Part of me wants to quit and uninstall the game as soon as I win the Champions League in truth.

However, for now I'm playing on. I didn't screenshot it at the time but our Champions League draw was Juventus, Sevilla and a return to our former club Rijeka. After I left Rijeka, Dinamo dominated with Rijeka selling off most of the young talent I assembled for huge fees (Taieb Slimane is still RB Leipzig's starting keeper, unfortunately, Ogangan never hit the heights I wanted him to) but in recent years Rijeka have come back, winning three straight titles. The Croatian league is still ranked 10th in Europe, after peaking at 8th following our run to the Europa quarter-finals way back in the save.

Good signings and Manning, looks decent replacement for De Jong.

Would have be a shame if this comes to the end, really enjoyed reading it! Hopefully you do it again on FM19? ( if you are planning to get it)

Thank you for your continued support on the save, I'm glad you've enjoyed it up to this point.

I'll see what changes are made with FM19 and maybe I'll wait for it to come on sale then buy it like this year. If I buy it I think I will definitely write about my save on here though!

I'm in the same boat, I am actually only really playing 18 now as I didn't like it and could not get into it at first, after uninstalling and redownloading a couple of times I've actually got into it now, but will see what new features 19 brings and maybe stick to 18 but I know what career idea I have in mind for 19 to write up and post.

Back on topic however and I've really enjoyed this read mate, I'd say stick at it until at least when the 19 beta drops (if you are pre ordering of course) as you'll definitely be able to win more.

Alright, so after a short break for results day and seeing family over the bank holiday weekend, updates will return from tomorrow.

Played tonight and started to enjoy the game again so hopefully we can have a good season at Wolfsburg.

My ultimate aim is to win the Champions League before school restarts :)

Cheers mate, I'm probably going to get it when the price drops a bit.

Just read your whole career thread in one sitting, really impressive. Looking forward to seeing where you end up next :)

Thanks mate, I guess I've had a decent run on this save. I want to go to England, it's so competitive there on this save - Chelsea would be great but I've applied and been rejected so many times on this save that I may have to go elsewhere - maybe City, they've not been as dominant on this save as you'd expect. Hopefully, you keep enjoying it!

Is the Carcedo curse real? Bayern have been on fire so far and we've been off the pace. Plain sailing in the Champions League but Rijeka proved our toughest opponent, holding us to draws home and away. Liverpool next, who we beat in the quarter-final last year.

What a player, still smashing it at 30 years young.

So really I would like to take jobs in the three major leagues that I haven't done, so England, Italy and Germany. Then, potentially I would go back to Croatia (maybe to Dinamo and build a team that challenges in Europe).

In terms of clubs that interest me, Wolves have had a tycoon takeover and bought some interesting players, so I'd love to go there as it is a historic club and I would love to see a team from the Midlands start challenging for titles in England and Europe. Interestingly, the job has just become available (late January) but I think I would have to wait for another manager to come and go before taking that one.

Italy, I'm looking at taking AC Milan back up to the summit as they've been average on this save. In Germany, though Wolfsburg are tempting, I would love to do something more long-term, such as 1860 Munich or Union Berlin. These are typical FM saves but I think taking over one of these at a late point in the save would make it interesting.

just go to Milan already :D

yeah just finished reading and saw that you choose the german side. maybe next stop.

huge thanks for doing this

Bayern are formidable, they can spend £100m on a player whenever they want. The best part of it is that their best player is a Brazilian winger called William. I tracked him for months at Valencia, then had a fee agreed for him at Monaco after he went to Spurs, but Bayern beat me to him and he became world-class!

We'll see. I'm hoping to go to England but Italy is certainly a place I want to manage, I had a great time there with Venezia on FM16 :)

Wolfsburg - 2033-34 - End of Season Update

A season of failure really. Bayern won the league comfortably in the end though the momentum would have gone our way had we beaten them at home rather than drawing. Roberto Mancini, who pinched Carcedo off me at Monaco and here, has just retired so I'm going to try and bring him back as I'm beginning to believe in this curse now.

Champions League... where to start. The heroics against Liverpool and PS-****ing-G (7-2!!!!) count for nothing due to the away goals rule. I don't think I've mentioned this but I hate Bayern!

1840211616_VfLWolfsburg_SeniorFixtures.thumb.png.e2f591211cd70879660bd19ff4333723.png

The irony is Allegri left them to go to Monaco, and I was linked with them all summer but instead they went with Koln manager Niko Kovac who obviously just joined them in real life which I found quite funny.

I will give Wolfsburg at least another year.

Scotland shithouse their way to a World Cup win, despite a draw and a loss in their first two games. They only conceded twice in the tournament, thanks to this guy

I see that the previous World Cup also had a sensational winner. I guess these things just happen in FM... :D

To be fair, England have some ridiculous regens so their win doesn't come as a huge surprise but Scotland - aside from Main who is a top, top 'keeper (won the Champions League and Premier League as well as the World Cup) - were a bunch of nobodies!

Obviously, both are unthinkable in real life, despite how close we came this summer!

Wolfsburg - 2034-35 - Pre-Season Update

546531052_VfLWolfsburg_TransferHistory.thumb.png.ff535b2fab98d73dc8ee3a36f2dec4fe.png

Bruch the only major departure as he is 27 and had a poor season while I could find replacements

53442275_BesnikKrasniqi_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.27c8b4a7d2b64dabd89a1c41e091e765.png

Krasniqi is the Bruch replacement coming off a decent season in Italy and World Cup with Albania.

586847894_ChristianMesenhler_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.f20136670ad62cd08ba55487fe13b219.png

With Zander getting on and being injured frequently we needed a new right-back and Mesenholer was available for a decent price.

1300410947_NiklasGarth_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.34c7137a09ce2dc564120029f41100fb.png

20 goals in the Bundesliga at 18 years old? For a £10.5m release clause? Yes please. He stays with Hannover for a year while we can't guarantee him starts.

1306735285_SvenAdzic_Inbox-4.thumb.png.a2d6c3128e55b026b4a7b9fce5888dd4.png

Very decent grouping.

Wolfsburg - 2034-35 - Mid-season Update

1709879857_VfLWolfsburg_Competitions-3.thumb.png.c267dc7ab2c16b35f9b08febcb36a0a6.png

Doing well so far this year in spite of a flurry of injuries towards the end of the year. Eased through the Champions League group, tough draw but we've beaten City before.

1869663279_SvenAdzic_Inbox-6.thumb.png.801e3d8a16167fda5715da442e83374b.png1096468199_SvenAdzic_Inbox-5.thumb.png.770006134c184a03f3e278afe51a9a6f.png

Crippling injury - surely his last Ballon d'Or title, still scoring at a good rate but an alarming percentage of his goals are coming from the spot. Ronaldo-esque. Really want to get him his second Champions League title. Also he's reached 111 Germany goals, which makes him the leading men's international goalscorer of all time. What a player.

95th minute from Zander to win the cup was a huge highlight :D

1601145953_SvenAdzic_Inbox-8.thumb.png.a1e3bd8f7f271426697f31848d529de8.png

We finally did it. Luque is a hero, coming on for Merino and being our match-winner. Absolute scenes. We managed this final without Ordenewitz, who suffered another hip injury and Veenboer while Whitten was only able to come on in the last 20 after getting injured against Chelsea.

605544650_VfLWolfsburg_SeniorFixtures-2.thumb.png.b6d2fb0d17c6d39fe74d2cd5761070d0.png

It was unique as we faced exclusively English teams in the knockout stages this year.

I'm not even sure what to do. Wolves job has become available. They've signed the best Croatian prospect on the game. But how can I leave what I have assembled here in Germany, It's a mess. I'm probably going to make a save where I resign and take the Wolves job, but keep a save where I can stay here.

Fantastic season mate. Well done!

Not gonna wait and try for Chelsea job when it become available again?? Surely, with titles you've won, you should get the job easily now.

Thank you, I'm so relieved I finally won the Champions League!

Wolves job is an impossibility (they finished interviewing) so I'm definitely staying at Wolfsburg into a fifth season (already played through most of pre-season). Past that, Chelsea is a big possibility though if any job that interests me comes up I'll pursue it. For instance, Lazio just got a tycoon takeover and paid £60m for one of my players.

Wolfsburg - 2035-36 - New Season Preview

Transfers so far

1810059052_VfLWolfsburg_TransferHistory-3.thumb.png.0189984fcc554355477a074dc00de44f.png

All the major deals have been done, still a few more loans to go through and I will look at bringing in a few youngster for the II side.

First XI, Second XI

Keepers: Morin-Cousin, Jean Carlos

Spoiler

LMC has only featured 9 times as he has been Jean Carlos' understudy for my tenure here but this is his season to take the starting job off of him. JC is experienced but showing signs of decline.

Right-backs: Zander, Mesenholer

Spoiler

1284381233_GarritZander_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.f279d9506fd9f11570b97b8a4191de31.png1516604048_ChristianMesenhler_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.9d9b2c322dadf6a260da4d8216874e78.png

Zander is another experienced player who despite declining is still good enough to start for us at right-back. Mesenholer his understudy.

Centre-backs: Joao Vitor, Gomez, Amonat, Seegert

Spoiler

Joao and Amonat was the starting centre-back pairing until Gomez emerged as a first-team regular. A phenomenal player who arrived for just £3.3m three seasons ago.

Left-backs: Calderon, Hellebrand

Spoiler

808753257_SebastinCaldern_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.71d5a45e4a35591b91206bf595f0e5c8.png523016326_DanielHellebrand_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.904a50af02568e19049d9df1c0f331e3.png

Calderon has been class since following me from Monaco to Germany, and his consistency has caused Hellebrand to stagnate as he could not get a start.

Advanced playmakers: Flores, Dowie

Spoiler

638515064_BilalFlores_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.cdb1784779cd408844d954552468cbc4.png496664826_MartinDowie_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.975095d052c4a7e9744d4cb0623ed7af.png

Flores broke out as first choice last season and has developed nicely. Dowie is a new arrival who I see as more of a deep-lying playmaker but can operate in the AP role.

Deep-lying playmakers: Whitten, Alvarez

Spoiler

1507180339_ScottWhitten_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.b038ffd0ee3c1ef0a9e5417bacaed16f.png1606302782_Enriquelvarez_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.c539d401396b5b2fbf7883954f02d47b.png

Whitten is a lynchpin of the team, with Alvarez providing high-quality cover for him.

Carrileros: Frantz, Enes Karaca

Spoiler

1270458527_StephanFrantz_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.19cfb5db3e8a0064350b12bcad5a6445.png1582911655_EnesKaraca_OverviewProfile.thumb.png.159c157b94f3d8c8fe568579acab2d4a.png

I have wanted Frantz for ages but his agent wanted stupid money last summer so I withdrew from the deal. However, his agent left so I got him this summer, what a player. Karaca was on loan a few years ago but has since come back to become a key part of the squad.

Right-wingers: Krasniqi, Veenboer

Spoiler

Krasniqi can play across the whole front three and is a complete player in my opinion. Veenboer isn't overly well suited to the IF role but still is able to do a good job there nevertheless.

Left-wingers: Merino, Luque

Spoiler

Merino is very good in this role and Luque usually deputises across the front line.

Strikers: Ordenewitz, Manning

Other squad players: Melgar, Pazman

Spoiler

Melgar was a great free transfer after my scouts brought him up. I got Pazman off Lokomotiva Zagreb a few seasons ago and spent two fruitful seasons at Rijeka. He's now part of the first team squad.

Onto the German and European Supercups...
