adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2020-21 - November Update Good going so far. Annoyed as Felici got a concussion in the Valencia game and won't play until after the winter break. I have recalled Josip Mitrovic to provide cover, therefore. adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2020-21 - December Update Really good month domestically, we finally beat Dinamo but fell just short against Hajduk. Also, we are in the semi-final of the cup now. In Europe, it was always going to be tough and despite a few spirited performances we fell just short. I'm not overly fussed at this stage. I know this side is not ready to push on in Europe yet.
adamdfry
Two deals agreed for next season during January Benko I feel is a steal off of Bayern and its good to buy a Croat. Vignali comes in as midfield cover, which we desperately need. I've also lined up a load of Portuguese prospects who can be signed for free, but won't talk to me after 'considering their options'. I'm certain this means they will eventually agree to new deals at their respective clubs.

adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2020-21 - February Update (I played the first game of March at this point, a 2-2 draw against Osijek. I forgot to screenshot after the Zapresic game ) A really good month, and although the league table shows us first, this will not last long as Dinamo's two games in hand will inevitably end up in 6 points, placing them top by 5 points. The real story here is our 3-2 defeat of Osijek in the West Derby, which allows us to climb above them. Champions League qualification is an absolute priority at this stage. Great month for Kukovec. adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2020-21 - Youth Intake First youth intake where the facilities are actually decent. So, who did we get? Oh yes. A massive centre-back, Ogangan is going to be a huge asset for us in a few years. He is part of the long-running partnership with Abuja College. Attribute-wise, his strength needs to improve and his technicals aren't the best, but otherwise he is brilliant. I'm very excited He has a lot of work to do in order to make it but 19 determination is a standout stat. Fairly good physicals and nice potential. The rest wasn't too good by Ogangan makes this a very good intake. I will prioritise getting our recruitment and coaching up
adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2020-21 - March Update We're still top but the draw to Dinamo has harmed our title chances greatly. 8 games to go, we still have Osijek and Hajduk to play so it is key we play at our best. adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2020-21 - April Update 3 games to go. I hate to say those two draws have worsened our chances significantly. We still have Dragovoljac, Osijek, and Gorica to go. My aim? Win all three and count on Dinamo slipping. I think we've done very well to get here after a few tough weeks early in the season. adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2020-21 - May Update Nearly a giant choke. The loss to Osijek left us 3rd - and out of the Champions League - on goal difference. We handled Gorica at home and that left the result out of our hands. Osijek faced Dinamo... who proceeded to win 2-0, giving us entry to the Champions League. Next year, we have to challenge for the title. Something else to come out of the Gorica game was this... Expect more of him. Played a blinder too, 7.6 rating. Season Review Kukovec, Ivan and Felici proved to be good signings in the end. Canadija had a solid season in the midfield as well. adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2021-22 - July/August Update Starting with the results, aside from the two draws, against Slaven Belupo and Dinamo, I could not have hoped for a better start. The Dinamo draw, though heart-breaking, is not the end of the world as we have a game in hand. Likewise, we have qualified for the group stage of the Europa League, though the draw is yet to be made. This provides us with a decent financial boost, particularly if we can pick up some wins. Transfers I'm very happy with this summer. I cleared out a load of deadwood players who had large contracts and signed young, better players in their place. We also sold Picanco, a youngster we got on a free for a really nice profit to Tottenham. That deal includes a handy sell-on clause as well. There were a few deals I am disappointed about. We were forced into selling Ivan because of his release clause, but also his contract being 10.5k p/w. Likewise, the deal for Ivanusec was poor and I wouldn't have agreed it looking back. One of the better deals from this season. He is versatile and is on a modest wage. A really good cover option who is also signed on decent terms. Well, what can I say... He's clearly decent and I like that we're signing young Croatian talent but for 13.5k a week? I don't think he's worth it and I think I will end up offloading him. A silly deal I shouldn't have made in hindsight. A good young prospect who has the potential to feature for us in the future. Selasi comes in for half what we got for Ivan, and has great mentals and physicals. I think Havlik makes up for the poor Ivanusec deal. He was recommended because we drew Mlada in the Europa League and will certainly go on to be a star. 19 and already has caps for the Czech Republic. A steal. After selling Picanco, I needed a backup striker to Kukovec and Kalaica, who scored against us last season, was available for a very low fee in comparison to what he once was touted at, so I paid. His evident strength is his speed, which was key in him scoring twice on his debut.
adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2021-22 - September Update A really good month overall, very smooth sailing up until the defeat to Zenit. I can't really complain though, I didn't expect to beat them anyway.

adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2021-22 - October Update A really good month. The league is sailing smoothly right now. I am shocked at Hajduk's demise, but I hope it lets me grab some of their young stars on the cheap. A really good start and I think this squad is much stronger than last season. We keep pushing onwards.

adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2021-22 - November Update Huge, huge win away to Dinamo. Likewise, Kalaica saved us against Lokomotiva and Dragovoljac - what a signing he has been. Inter clearly miss him too, looking at the table. 1 game left in the Europa League against Zenit. It's decided simply - win and we're through, fail to win and we go out. Hopefully, we can get through. I usually rotate a bit in Europe, but I think I will go full strength for this game. adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2021-22 - December Update A poor loss to Hajduk for our first of the season and Kalaica showing his clutch gene to scrape past Belupo at home. What a man. We did it 2-0 win at home to Zenit and we go through Tough test to follow in the knockouts.
adamdfry
Huge news This deal makes us really secure financially. Honestly, Felici wasn't even having that great of a season, so I'm not overly upset over losing him. I used the money we got on a pair of Czechs Huska gives us a much-needed improvement at right-back, and Jezek can play up front or in the Felici role
adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2021-22 - February Update Strong month in the league and we still have a big lead over Dinamo following our draw to them. The real story from this month, however, is the Europa League. A solid defensive performance at home and Kukovec's first minute away goal helped us scrape through an Atalanta side who still have Filippo Melegoni running the show in midfield. The Atalanta win sets us up for an early reunion with Francesco Felici and his Napoli teammates... Youth Intake Not as exciting as last year, but Soverini looks pretty decent His physicals have a long way to go.
adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2021-22 - March Update Well that was an interesting month. Fixture congestion has killed us really, culminating in injuries and some poor results. Dragovoljac was a poor game but FM really had it for me here. We dominated and couldn't break through, then Galovic was sent off and the game changed completely. To compile our misery, Ivanusec got injured after all 3 subs were made. This is how we finished the game. In more positive news, we have secured the services of Adnan Popovic from Hajduk for a compensation fee of £700k Also, we beat Osijek over two legs, setting up a final tie with the club I started at: What a game this will be. Two months left. We need to be at our very best to win the league.
adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2021-22 - April Update What was a great month was spoiled by two AWFUL losses at the end. Firstly against Belupo we had no penetration whatsoever and then the Dinamo game was one of the most frustrating and morale-destroying games I've ever had on FM. They raced into a two-nil lead, only for me to change the team around at half-time and us fight back remarkably. I thought we would see out the game and I made subs, only for my centre-back to go down with 86 minutes played. Then in the 94th minute, 34-year-old Hilal Soudani popped up to make this last month very interesting. Horrible.

adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2021-22 - May Update What a choke. Soudani's 94th minute goal was the turning point in the season. How can I even compete with this form?

adamdfry
2 hours ago, john1 said: What has happened 5 points behind. Good to see you beat your old club in the final Fixture congestion killed my squad. Kukovec stopped firing in the second half of the season and I think Jezek wasn't the best Felici replacement. I think I have made some good dealings this window and hopefully we can push on and overcome Dinamo at last. Also, it makes it extra special that it was Gorica who we beat in the final. adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2022-23 - July/August Update No season summary for that horror show: we're moving swiftly on to 2022-23. Transfers Delighted to nab a youngster off of Hajduk. He started well before getting injured. True Felici replacement. He and Mitrovic will rotate at AMC. Lost Novak for his release clause, then swiftly moved to replace him with this guy on the cheap. Great potential to be a dominant centre-half alongside Ogangan. Replaces Huska who also fell foul of a release clause, going to Porto. Results Started on fire, as it should be. Massive, massive wins against Osijek and Dinamo. Also got past Gorica, who have started really brightly.
adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2022-23 - September Update Very good month for us. Dinamo up next, will be a huge game. adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2022-23 - October Update Draw against Dinamo is a good result. Osijek did us a huge favour, first by losing to us despite us having 10 men and then beating Dinamo for us. Great stuff. We scraped a draw at home to Celta with a late equaliser. I doubt we will win in Italy or Spain away.

adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2022-23 - December Update First loss in the league all season to Osijek which is a big disappointment. Likewise, I would've loved to beat Dinamo away but I can't complain about a 0-0 draw. Even with their games in hand, Dinamo are still well off the pace this season. I've noticed them dropping points to a few smaller sides. However, you can never write them off, as shown by their ridiculous form in the second half of the season last year. January is going to be a huge month because I must not make the same mistakes and ensure the depth is there to see out the season. I'm praying Kukovec doesn't go into a post-winter break slump as he did last season. Shocked to have got out of this group in honesty. We'll face Vitoria Guimaraes in the first knockout round. Truthfully, I want to focus on domestic football because the Europa League games cause fatigue and are extra chances for players to get injured. This offer really tempted me but I think I will see out my contract with Rijeka, which lasts until the end of 2023-24, before going elsewhere. I would love to manage Ajax at some stage - the prospect of winning the 5th Champions League title is exciting and on this save Ajax's finances are described as 'rich'. Cracking start in the league Surprise to see HNK Gorica doing well Cheers mate! League has been really good so far. The money from Felici, Nowak, and Huska has allowed me to build a good side to fight better across multiple competitions. I'm pleased to see Gorica doing well. Their financial problems, which existed the whole time I was there, have eased a bit as well mainly from the sale of Bilaver, who I bought for 6k, to Dinamo for half a million. adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2022-23 - January/February Update Transfers Effectively 2 in, 2 out here, with Cankovic being a youngster going out on loan. Konan wanted to go and as a 27-year-old who would command a fee significantly greater than what I paid when I bought him in my first summer, I was happy to let him go. Ivanusec is notorious for being on £13.5k p/w but had been performing very well this season and was very versatile. I wanted to try and work a large fee for him, then this happened... In truth, there was no point in protesting as I don't think I would be able to get a better deal for him. Gomez replaces Konan at left back. He can't mark, but he has a great set of mentals and physicals as well as coming in for a significantly lower fee than Konan. In spite of his giant wages, Kraev came in for a modest fee, cheaper than Ivanusec, and can play all across attacking midfield in my 4-2-3-1 system. Here's a future transfer. My scouts recommended him to me and he will come in during August and hopefully play a role next season or go out on loan. Results Disappointing result against Hajduk after being 2-0 up within 15 minutes but otherwise fairly smooth sailing. Limbs everywhere when Adnan Popovic scored in the 89th minute against Guimaraes to send us through to the second knockout round against AC Milan. Youth Intake An OK bunch, Pauletic looks decent. adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2022-23 - May/End of Season Update We did it. After a small downturn in form last night with back-to-back losses to Osijek and Hajduk, we bounced back and went out with a bang, winning the next 5 consecutively and securing the league title with a huge points tally of 90. I'm over the moon really. A great season overall. Season Review That team of the season baffles me - Rita ahead of Mitrovic? Davidson and Raspopovic ahead of Gomez/Konan and Garcia? Acosty is one of the elder statesmen of the team and had a phenomenal start to the season, hence the award. He notched 13 league assists, which was joint 1st with Dino Halilovic of Osijek, who is the little brother of Barcelona flop Alen. Kukovec's goalscoring was slower this season but some of his goals were so important, hence I have given him the nickname 'Clutchovec' So far in this thread, I don't think I have shown off my players enough, so I am going to post the screenshots of what I consider my strongest XI, in a 4-2-3-1. Keeper: Taieb Slimane Proved to be a brilliant Nowak replacement, even amassing more clean sheets than him this season. Will be Algeria's number 1 for years to come. Right Back: Garcia Some poor discipline from him this season but an exciting young player nevertheless. Will train to play centre back next season in a back three Centre Back: Ogangan Remarkable progress from our academy graduate who has become a firm fixture in our first team. Currently negotiating a new deal which includes a £6.5m release clause - which may be there for when I switch clubs... Centre Back: Uremovic Our captain, Uremovic has been brilliant since my arrival at Rijeka and formed a great partnership with Ogangan. Left Back: Gomez Mid-season arrival. Definitely more attacking than Garcia. Will train to play as a ML next season. Central Midfielder: Selasi Been brilliant since his arrival from Matera. Our own Michael Essien. Chips in with goals and had a brilliant run of form in the last month of the season. Next Season My final season at Rijeka - I hope for another title. I am going to be trying out a new 3-4-3 system next year. Central Midfielder: Vignali Selasi's partner in the middle, Vignali was signed as a cover player but has performed well during his spell here. Right Wing: Benko Has proved to be an excellent signing since arriving from Bayern on a free transfer. I expect transfer interest for him throughout the summer. Attacking Midfielder: Mitrovic Been at the club for ages, and outperformed Rita even when the Portuguese came back from an early season injury. Left Wing: Popovic Really happy he swapped Hajduk for us. A great debut campaign. Striker: Kukovec Kukovec has been a great player across his three seasons here. Will command a large fee if he eventually goes elsewhere.
adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2023-24 - July/August Update Transfers Rita departed after just one season with us. We could have got more but he doesn't fit into how we want to play this season. Also, I put in a clause which gives us 50% of the profit from his next sale. With us going to a three-up-front system, I needed more strikers. Drakulic had a good scoring record at Partizan and commanded a low fee and reasonable wages, thus presenting a good option. We needed more cover at centre-back going to 3-4-3 and along with Garcia being trained there, we signed Ferrero. £1.8M is a lot for us now but some way down the line Ferrero will bring in much more than that. Tommei came in on loan to give us more options up front. I signed Tommei as an alternative option after this absolute betrayal... Fighting to win the Croatian league or battling relegation in Serie A? Here's the Georgian striker, as pre-arranged. Started this season as we finished the last, with a string of wins. New system working perfectly so far.
adamdfry
HNK Rijeka - 2023-24 - September Update Disappointing loss to Dinamo, but otherwise a good month. Coupled with a huge performance in the Bernabeu against Real. We lead 3-1 with 10 men then eventually Real's ridiculous front four of Dybala, Ronaldo, Vinicius Jr and Leon Bailey ripped us apart. I'll be shocked if we get out of this group.
