South Korea vs Mexico - 4pm BST - ITV1

Recommended Posts

Jang Ye-Won

I don't think the Koreans will be a match for Mexico, though. 2-0 to El Tri.

150th cap for Guardado.

Feels like he has been around forever, turns out he's only 31. :D

Mexico wins this. Will be interesting to see how they are tested v a side like Germany. Oh wait....

Korea are really disruptive.

Can’t really question the fitness and commitment. But it stops there.

Come on Mexico, don't mess this up and undo the good work of the Germany game. Ever since the draw I've been worried about things would go with Sweden so still no room for error.

Jang's namesake gives away a penalty. :(

How many penalties have there been now? 95?

How does he slide without arm up? What else should he do?

I believe that's now 14 pens in 28 games.

Compared to 13 in 64 iirc in Brazil.

It's pretty easy to slide without your arm up

Not have his arm in the air?

Go outside and try it. It is awkward. But I get it. Stupid decision. Not even sure he should be sliding at all.

I think pretty much all handball penalties are harsh (except the ones like Sanchez/Colombia). I suspect I always will. :)

I think we need a better rule for handballs. Deliberation or not.

What are you on about?

Guy is literally sliding with his arm in vertical position.

No matter how obvious the decision you still get the few who disagree, not having a go but you can see why VAR will always be problematic when even the most seemingly obvious decisions can be interpreted in a different way.

But it wasn't deliberate.

So what?

Half of the fouls aren't deliberate, but a result of late tackles.

I think Mexico could be my favourite team from World Cups after England...their name just sounds all footbally.

Absolutely. But I do like the taking away dives for pens Part. 🤩

Late tackles are results of incompetence. Handballs like this are due to natural movements; it's not like Suárez preventing a goal with his hand four years ago. We're playing football. We shouldn't expect players to control every movement of every part of their body.

I'd agree if his arm was just above his body, but it was bloody vertical. Haven't seen that in a while.

If they allowed situations like this, how long would it be before defenders try to exploit it?

What about shots that are clearly headed on target but stopped by non-deliberate handballs where arm isn't close to the body?
