[FM17] Trying to better 147 years of history - The Impossible Job

I was watching The Impossible Job on iPlayer last night and it got me thinking, could I do better than the managers of England past? I'll be using the fraudulent strikerless tactic that works so well on FM17 and I'm using FM17 so I can still carry on with my Asian save at the same time.

Here's the history of England managers, I'll be starting as Mr. FA Selection Committee but instead of 1872 it will be 2016 so instead of 1939 it will be 2073 when I'll retire and add a new manager as Sir Walter Winterbottom 6 years later.

Now for the setup:

*PLEASE NOTE* I will be making myself unsackable using the In-game editor which I purchased for this career, just so then if I do get sacked I won't have to add a new Mr. FA Selection Committee every few years.

Every league will be view-only but only the Premier League will be playable, this will help with speed and I'll be starting with the earliest starting date which is Brazil's 24th November 2015.

44,060 players which should be enough to fill the international competitions, the only editor data files I've used are claassen's extra international competitions but I don't think that will affect us at all.

Here's the squad for our first 2 friendlies, at home to Holland and away to Ukraine.

Next up is a friendly at home to Serbia as well as the first World Cup Qualifier at home to Lithuania.

Serbia didn't even have a shot on target, we had 11 so probably should have scored more.

An easy first qualifier win, especially with Lithuania going down to 10 early on.

2 more qualifiers now, away to Malta and at home to Slovenia.

We took our foot off after 20 minutes and Malta defended deep, we could only manage the 2 goals.

Followed up with an easy win over Slovenia.

No surprises after 3 games, the big nations are all performing well.

Our squad for the last 2 fixtures of the year, away to Scotland in a World Cup Qualifier followed by at home to Tunisia in a friendly.

And again, 16 shots on target to their 2 and we draw 2-2.

2016 End of Year Review

In 1870 we played two matches against Scotland, we drew the first and won the second, we're already doing worse.

I took the out-and-out strikers out of the squad and replaced them with some of the best performing attacking midfielders for the World Cup Qualifier away to Slovakia and a friendly at home to Algeria.

And a solid win with Dele Alli getting another MoTM award.

And our squad for the Lithuania away match in WCQ as well as a friendly away to Northern Ireland.

They had 0 shots on target, we had 11. It should have been more than 2-0.

Crunch time. This is the squad for a home friendly against Japan as well as the final two World Cup Qualifiers, at home to both Scotland and Slovakia, we top the group but we haven't qualified yet, we're top on 21 points and then both Scotland and Slovakia are on 16 points.

Outplayed and a straight forward win.

It was never really in doubt. 

And thus brings an end to our World Cup Qualifying campaign.

Belgium bossed the qualifying, we ended up having the 4th best goal difference but did concede the least overall.

Northern Ireland missing out on the playoffs.

It would've been nice to see Spain draw Holland but I can't see any upsets.

Whilst the World Cup Playoffs are happening we'll be playing friendlies away to Hungary and home to Iceland.

2018 World Cup Qualifiers

Big nations are always going to miss out in Africa and this time we see that Tunisia, Cameroon, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Senegal & Egypt all fail to qualify!

A surprise in Asia as Iran and Australia miss out completely but Qatar qualify and Thailand makes the playoff.

Panama didn't even make the final round in North American qualifying and there's no upsets, only that Mexico finished 3rd.

New Zealand does what New Zealand does.

No surprises in South America other than Brazil finishing 4th.

Chile and Honduras are going to the World Cup.

And the draw has been made, I don't think that there's an out-and-out easy group, maybe Group C? Qatar are really going to struggle.

Just the one goal conceded all year, admittedly we didn't play very difficult nations.

A brace from Adam Lallana and a late John Stones penalty sees us into the Quarter Final where we'll face Brazil!

No surprises in the Second Round with the only things close to that being that Ghana scored 2 against Germany and Spain really tired in extra time allowing France to score 3.

Our tournament is over. The own goal came from a Neymar penalty, it bounced off of Joe's hand, into the post and then just stops there.
