git2thachoppa
Although nervy, chaotic and not performing like their usual selves against Morocco, Iran still stole a win. Combined with their 2014 performance against Argentina (seconds away from a draw and should've got a penalty too) and Spain's self-sabotage days before the tournament, confidence is even higher at dealing with Spain. But more maturity and calmness will be needed to do it. Superstar striker Azmoun has a chance to finally prove his potential, by scoring an historic goal in his home ground of Kazan. Who knows, maybe it will be '6-0' this time, but surely by now more people are aware of the system Iran plays and their match record. Clean sheets galore, 1-0s aplenty. Morocco are a mess though and easily carved open at times, surely they'll lose by more.
RTHerringbone
I'm all for one-sided games and hope to see a few goals today. I still look at this as Iniesta's farewell tour and hope the little genius can bring out some tricks tonight.

Suggy33
I’m in Kazan and going to the match. The Iran fans in Kazan outnumber the Spanish 10 to 1 easily. So many of them out here so the atmosphere tonight should be great. Hoping it’ll top the Aussies whose atmosphere vs France was also brilliant. noikeee
I actually think less of Iran now than before their win over Morocco. I was expecting a freakishly well drilled double-decker bus, instead from the highlights I saw Morocco just carved them apart with ease and were highly unlucky not to score. Based on this I think it's likelier that Spain smashes them than a cagey low scoring game, BUT it could also just have been a bad day from the Iranian defence, and Morocco seem more vertical than Spain's laboured play - which could play into Iran's hands here even if Spain are obviously vastly superior to Morocco. So I'm still keeping an open mind to the possibility of Iran frustrating them, even if I'm a bit skeptical it'll happen. I also think it's likelier that Iran frustrates us (Portugal) than Spain, we're not particularly outstanding at organized attacks. Probably worse than Morocco actually. I also think it's likelier that Iran frustrates us (Portugal) than Spain, we're not particularly outstanding at organized attacks. Probably worse than Morocco actually. Iran were nervous and a mess for the first 20 minutes, but afterwards it was business as usual and the longer the game went on the more in control of it they got. On top of that, Iran's tactics are that they give the opposition the ball but just keep them in areas they only have half-chances at most and trick them into pushing too far forward. So probably the highlights will always look like they were camped around Iran's area when in reality in the long 90 minutes they were kept in safe areas, often in their own half with long balls, and only had about 2 decent chances. I only remember the keeper having to make one big save. With Ronaldo and Spain it'll be tougher because they have the ability to place the ball where they want in the goal once they're around in the area, while Costa is also big and strong going up against an Iranian league-based central defence. So the danger area becomes pretty much anywhere in and around the area.

git2thachoppa
Taremi starts, so he's going to be supporting Azmoun by sneaking into a striker position from the left (sometimes even more advanced than striker Azmoun). He made a great Maradona '86 run to assist Azmoun against Russia a while back, do that again and this will be the best World Cup ever even if Spain scored 3. Ezatolahi, their 'Carrick' or 'Pirlo' is back from suspension, so expect nicer-looking football through the middle now. Centre-back Cheshmi, who did so well against Morocco, is replaced with Hosseini who replaced him against Morocco as well as Iran tightened things up later in the game. Superstar right-winger Jahanbakhsh must not be 100% after suffering cramp, or he's just going to be used for the late attacks as Spain hopefully increase pressure in a 0-0. Ansarifad keeps his place, he hasn't stopped scoring for Iran in friendlies and for his club this season. Ghoddos on the bench again, but he won the free kick that got the goal, and will make an impact as he's done for Ostersunds in nearly every Europa League game this season. He's only 21 but IIRC played every single game of qualifying, providing the defensive help and also a wide range of passes.
