Match 2: Egypt v Uruguay, Group A 13:00BST

Recommended Posts

How hurt is Salah? Egypt should really throw him on to risk the 3 points as watching this, Russia are already through. This is what everyone thought Russia, Saudi Arabia would be.

Why do players still put it out ffs

These Egyptian fans are very precious.

Idk why everyone thinks Egypt would score easily if they start attacking.

Uruguay has been like this for years, sort of NT version of Atletico. Huge issues when they need to attack through possession against defensive opposition, but they're really hard to break down and thrive on counter-attacks.

How are Russia already through :/

Would make sense not to risk him here and try and win the other 2 games

The Egyptian front men all trying over head kicks, not very well either.

It's like they think they are all Salah, did the manager say something inspiring before the game started.

looks to me as if Uruguay have believed all the things people have said about this group and think they are easily going to top it

Egpyt should bring on Salah to try and win this game

Not a great first half, but Uruguay will be satisfied. Godín's been immense, Bentancur has also impressed... and let's not forget they have a 1-0 lead. :p

Yeah something along those lines, those over head kicks, dear me.

Dire.

Makes me wonder how I get tricked into anticipating good things every 4 years.

Yeah but supposedly their new midfield with lots of young talents had led them to a slightly more progressive style of play.

At least in theory that's what I read...

Uruguay are surprisingly sloppy, but solid enough for Egypt having trouble penetrating. A fit Salah would've punished Uruguay about now.

That first half has made me so sad that I've actually left the TV area to go back to my desk to work.

well not really, just exaggerating but on the face of this shitshow, a +5 gd might walk them to the finish line (assuming I'm not wrong in thinking it's gd not h2h)

Ronaldo having about 50 shots at goal and possibly scoring one

I'm baffled how Uruguay didn't get a free-kick for that Egyptian bodyslamming him

Well, the keeper covered very well the posts. Suarez did not have too much of a choice except put it in low, but the ball seemed to keep floating in the air and he couldn't.

Are you saying he's crap in general?

110 goals in 130 league games for Barcelona so far :D

No. But his last season was crap regardless of goal record. Any top striker can get that with Messi supplying them.

Bring Recoba on, he wouldn't struggle with pace of the game and is still technically better than everyone on the pitch.

wonder if we'll get some Premier League syndrome today, not going to say this game was a Man Utd V Man City-esque game but Uruguay are expected to get quite far in the tournament - although maybe not after this performance

late afternoon game is Iran V Morocco, a 7 goal thriller? hopefully Jahanbakhsh can shine, had a cracking season in the Eredivise this year

This is setup for Cavani to get one chance and take it, he's barely touched the ball but when he has good things have happened.

Except that Cavani always needs like 5 chances to score.

volley he had in the first half was going on target if it wasn't blocked

His 25 league goals is more then Zlatan, Neymar or Villa ever managed in one season at Barcelona...

More like Salah to come on for the last 10 minutes and win the game from a free kick.
