Just now, GunmaN1905 said:

Why even bother with the predictions when 2 bonus questions can get you 80% increase.

:ackter:

You know why - it was to add an element of uncertainty to the scores and to make sure that nobody became too detached at the bottom and gave up thinking they couldn't close the gap - and it was for a bit of fun!

Yeah except that guy who was leading in the first place got the most points. :D

Of course it isn't @GunmaN1905 and @Readingfanman. I was going to run more bonuses for the knock out stage but the fixtures were posted before I could do that.

Anyway - we have a number of options - we can run more bonuses, we can run the main table without the bonuses and keep the bonus table self-contained - which was why I posted it on its own initially.

One of the bonuses should be predicting the whole knockout phase before the first knockout round plays out. 100 points for predicting the finals correctly. :D

I agree, having seperate bonus and regular prediction tables would be nice.

Razzie, we agreed to keep the main table and the bonus table separate to avoid the contest being over too quickly.

Rules for the knockout stages.

If you opt to declare the result after extra time and get the correct score  aet - 3 points. Correct result aet - 1 point.

If the score is correct at 90 mins but changes in extra time - and the result is the same, 1 point if you have opted for extra time, 3 points if you didn't.

If you opt for penalties, 1 additional point if you get the correct winner after penalties, 2 additional points if you get the correct penalties score.

Comrades,

The knock out stages begin today and the same general rules apply - 3 points for a correct score, 1 point for a correct result. In addition, there are amended rules for extra time and penalties and I have copied these rules below as follows:

  • If you opt to declare the result after extra time your score will only be considered at the end of extra time. If you get the correct score aet - 3 points. Correct result aet - 1 point
  • If you opt for penalties, 1 additional point if you get the correct winner after penalties, 2 additional points if you get the correct penalties score. This means of course that you could score up to five points for guessing the correct penalties score

There was some discussion yesterday concerning the bonuses and the extent to which they had affected the overall table. The Politburo considered this (GunmaN1905 asked about it in a post) and after lengthy consideration (a couple of minutes) the Supreme Soviet (me) decided to accept his request (ok, he didn't ask, he just mentioned it). The outlying Soviets agreed to the outcome (Razzler came in late) and as a consequence, the main table and the bonus table will be considered separately from now on.

@LilSaint and @SouthCoastRed - you have not yet submitted your predictions for the knock out stages.

Good luck everyone!

Just as well. With the rest of my predictions, I don't see myself scoring another bonus point in this tournament. :D

I don't know - you did ok - you only dropped two places after the bonuses, from 3rd to 5th.

Good morning comrades,

Well, what an extraordinary round of 16 - Argentina OUT, Spain OUT, Portugal OUT.

Dramatic victories for France, Uruguay, Russia, Belgium and of course, dear old England - who win a WC penalty shoot out for the first time in their history. I know you all fully expected England to win, in true patriotic spirit - the thing is, a fair number predicted a Colombia win - I will put it down to well thought out reverse psychology.

As a result of the England result last night the Supreme Soviet (me) has decided to merge the International Treaty on Security (IT'S) with the Committee on the Motherland Initiative for Notifying Growth (COMING)  and the Health Outcome Measures Executive (HOME) to make a new committee called "Coming It's Home".

So, how does that effect the positions within the Politburo? Our beloved leader Collzy retains his lead and remains Supreme Soviet but the gap is closing. Oriole01, HOORAY HENRIK, and GunmaN1905 close to within three points. If we include Timma and CFuller, then only five points separates the top six.

CFuller is the round winner with a whopping and extraordinary 12 points, closely followed by ArsenalFan7 with an equally impressive 11 points. Honourable mentions for HOORAY HENRIK, with 9 points and craigcwwe with 7 points. Agricultural Collective scores for the rest of us.

Unsurprisingly, the biggest mover was CFuller who moves up a game changing 10 places into 6th place - a great round for you CFuller!

At the bottom, ArsenalFan7 and craigcwwe both move up three places after their good scores but Razzler, LilSaint, Crispypaul and SouthCoastRed remain in the gulag. LilSaint did not enter so joined SouthCoastRed in going out at the group stage. Crispypaul couldn't take advantage and unfortunately scored the lowest score of the round with two points - bad luck Crispy, better luck next round.

So, onto the quarter finals - the fixtures will be posted in due course.
