How to make reserve players unavailable for the U23 / reserve teams?

Quick question:

My senior & U23 squads both have games scheduled for the same day, however,  I wish to use some of the U23 players in the senior side.

The only way I seem to be able to make these players unavailable for selection in the U23 squad is to temporarily promote them to the senior squad (the only remotely similar option I can find is to make them unavailable for the U18s). 

There must be an easier way! Am I missing something?

Nope - if you want a player to play in the senior team rather than the U23, you have to put them in the senior team.

There really should be an option to call up a reserve player for a single match, and have it understood by the game that he is unavailable for the reserve team for that one match, without manually moving the player twice.

You don't have to move them. Select the player in your first team line up and then you will have the option to exclude him from the U23s in the news item.

I think you can set them to rest for a week, which will stop the reserves manager picking them, play them, then recall them to training.
