BoxToBox Posted February 14, 2018 Share Posted February 14, 2018 Back again, with a new adventure, the plan here being to take 7th division Welsh club Merthyr Town to the top of English and European football. With the only loans and signings being Welsh players. This should mean the academy is vital to long term progress. That's the club, facilities, and man chosen to lead the charge. Plenty of expectations to start with.... Backroom is just a hair short of perfect. Every player at the club. Davies is the star man, Clarke the hottest prospect. Should have checked this ahead of time, but luckily I had a test save for some other stuff on a date close to the intake date, just had a quick whirl and they do indeed generate Welsh newgens. To be safely ahead of Hereford is amazing, their squad is well above this level. Squad is all Welsh already, which is nice. We trialled every Welsh lad who was halfway interested in joining. Now, considering the state of our squad, and the complete lack of any u-23's and u-18's, a bunch of lads able to stand on their own two feet would be considered relatively golden, so what we really have is more of a scuffed tin generation. There is though, one fellow to get properly excited about, short term at the very least... Some surprisingly good personalities here on the whole, and a few with decent determination, but our overall squad levels will grind all that away quite quickly, sigh.... We can quickly see Griffiths stands out a bit.... Right in the starting 11, thank you very much! If we keep him, at worst he should be solid throughout the non-league levels. Perhaps a bit unfairly, as I knew the 4-1-2-3 ST could do damage even against better teams. Kettering and especially Hereford have much better squads. I want to get to a point where I can be a tiny bit picky about signings as fast as possible though, then maybe something more interesting tactically could happen. I though they only accepted Romanians(ala Bilbao and Basques), but had a look, and they've had an Englishman, Jamaican and currently have a Moldovan playing for them. This is a massive blow, he walked away since we're not of his level, and we haven't been able to replace with near the quality. Still clubless though, and we're improving, maybe he'll come back. I wouldn't be so bothered, but other options really are shocking. Billericay expected to do well, they've already turned pro too.... Have a player on 2k a week, bloody hell... Us, not so much, but we can do well enough. We brought in loads.... 6 of them Swansea rejects, our star players.... These are the biggest deals. That's the squad as it stands, had to bing a few listed as English first, Welsh second out of desperation. They're still Welsh though, so I think that's ok. Good first season though you got complacent by losing 5 matches, I noticed that midseason you were undefeated so something went wrong at the end. Had a bit of a wobble, looked for a while like Hereford were going to overtake us, but then they stuttered too.
