Cherry-Picking My Way To The Top!

Hi all,

I originally got this idea from a post in @Makoto Nakamura's Final Countdown thread:

32c0d8fd72859f91ec427f16faabfd3c.png

Although this post had nothing to do with me, it piqued my interest. It also gave me an idea. Why not try and achieve this?

First of all, who the hell are Cherry Orchard?

Notable former players include Andy Reid, Connor Sammon, Keith Fahey, Anthony Stokes and Glenn Whelan.

Here is the setup for the game:

ffb063ccc747a981926ddb6dd637a5b7.png

I've loaded every player from the UK to make it as in depth possible for us. The league I have for Ireland is a restructure that has 5 tiers, each with 18 teams. The link for it is here. Cherry Orchard are in the 3rd tier, so it gives me a bit of time to get used to things.

Now, on to the aims.

Obviously the end goal is to win the Champions League, but this isn't going to be a youth only save.

However, there will be some rules:

My DoF or whoever else is in charge will make offers and manage the contract signings for the team. I however, will finalise the signings.

I will only okay the signings if one of 2 conditions are met:

1. If the players CA is higher than my current top player/s in that position.

2. If the players PA is higher than my current top players CA in that position.

I think I'll leave contract extensions to the others as well, might make things a bit more interesting and harder for me as well.

I will sign all staff, extensions will be left out of my hands though.

Alright I think that just about does it, let's do this!

Chosen Samoa as hopefully some players from there come through, just for something different.

We look pretty stocked here for the time being, Hale looks to be the man for the future.

Left Backs

Hmm, not great. Let's see if the powers that be at the club change that.

Centre Backs

Our starters are great. Our backups are not. There is potential there though.

Right Backs

There's a lot to like here, except the personalities.

Central Midfielders

Not as many CMs as I hoped to see, but the ability is there.

Left Wingers

Plenty of potential here.

Central Attacking Mids

Couple of strong options here.

Right Wingers

Kelly playing everywhere is huge.

Strikers

Up front is where we are strongest, in ability and depth.

Here are the tactics I am hoping will take the club to success:

2a2a660603362a9ab5c4662c90d87a94.png

It may be very attacking, but I am actively looking to score goals while retaining possession and structure to avoid being hit on the counter. I'll rotate between Standard, Control and Defensive based on strength of our opponents.

Good luck, should be a lot of fun.

Thanks 😀

Best of luck with this! Hopefully the promotion/ relegation after the first season works, I've had one save where there was promotion/ relegation and one where there wasn't, very weird indeed.

Thanks! Yeah I think I remember that one, but I think that had the actual structure for it plus the promotion relegation, this ones been changed to have 18 teams in each division.

July Update

Pretty easy friendly month as the team gets used to tactics and that. Only losing 2-1 to Shelbourne despite taking the lead is encouraging too.

The club let plenty of decent players go but brought in 2 quality ones.

Pretty steady start to the season, Bangor were favourites against us, and they seem to be the team to challenge us at the moment.

Bit of a slip up in November, as we pick up our first loss and an early exit from the Eastern Cup as well. Pretty disappointing to lose to 12th placed Arklow, and dropping points away to Whitehall means the others are catching up to us.

It started off fine. Then Cregan got injured and we forgot that in order to win we must score more goals than the opposition. Now we've lost top spot and Bluebell have a game in hand. With just over 10 games to go it's going to make for interesting play.

We started off the new year with a horrible performance against a team a tier below us that saw us knocked out. More points were dropped and then Cregan came back. All of a sudden we won! Hopefully that is foreshadowing things to come. 8 games to go and 3 points separate the top 5 teams.

This was the month I was hoping to have. Disposed of Bluebell and Greystones comfortably, which we absolutely needed, then did the job against St Kevin's. We have the advantage now, it's just a matter of keeping it.

Well, we were in pole position but we found a way to be behind at the first corner. Bottled it against Edenderry, but luckily flogged Drumcondra. It's going to be tight at the top. Here are the run ins for the top 3:

Wayside Celtic

4008397ff688a7f07193e01d98ad76f8.png

10th, 7th, 4th. That Bluebell game will make or break their title chances.

Cherry Orchard

bcd353d619fad4f5345ca84aaf17d97c.png

12th, 8th and 7th. Looks easy on paper but those two away games will decide it.

Firhouse

a953971cd0c9cd64e6c067a6af8ccef2.png

Last, 11th and 13th. They've got the easiest draw, so they look to be the favourites.

No one leaves, but we bring in a few players, couple ones for the future it looks like, with the loanees to play a more prominent role.

Undefeated once more in January, in  the cup we beat a team a division above us, even though they're last. And we pick up our first piece of silverware:

Although these guys went to bigger clubs, they weren't doing much for us. Couple more loan signings though which is disappointing as we need permanent signings.

Plenty of green. Donnelly on an impressive scoring streak despite being primarily a midfielder.  Very impressive wins in the cup too see us enter the last 8 against top flight side UCD. There's also some other news:

More waiting for the playoffs to begin in the league, but had a massive win against UCD in the FAI cup and now we are playing Bohemians (8th top division) for a spot in the final. We are going so well that I didn't even realise that Cregan was injured with a broken ankle! Good to see the rest of the team finding the net.

So you don't make any signings at all, only your DoF? Can you request positions to strengthen?

At the moment we don't have a DoF, and the Chairman and HOYD make the signings. I might hire a DoF actually. I don't think there's an option to request positions, guess I have to make the best of what I have!

You can ask your DoF to suggest targets for positions and roles.

I'm furious at the FAI result. We had 2 penalties to take the lead and most liekly the win and we missed them. What's worse is that Bohemians are facing Fanad Utd in the final, who are in the 2nd division, which would have meant we had a great shot. Unimpressed.

Oh awesome, how do I do that?

Go into your transfer screen, then click on the second drop down, Director Of Football, first option is Transfer Targets, then on that page click Suggestions, and you'll be here.

f5559e49cf7dd147afb51a59add40b0c.png

From there, hit Request Suggestions, and a pop up will appear giving you the option of transfers, loans, positions, roles etc.

63f0f337d5201673d11175c7c85b747f.png

After that they'll list three(usually) players.

ad238f1e2f40e3ae5a48bd1ddff737c8.png

From here, you can now set all sorts of limits on what you'd be willing to offer, have them scouted, or just ask the DOF to target them and attempt a signing.

This will be difficult. In Irish expanded leagues I've played previously, Cobh are always the team that steamrolls their way up the leagues, and are aiming for back to back promotions here. Waterford Southend are another team that does that.
