Koninklijke UD (in full Koninklijke Deventer Cricket and Football Club Utile Dulci ) is a sports association from Deventer . It was founded in 1875 and is the oldest existing field sports association in the Netherlands . The name means 'the useful by (means of) the pleasing' and is derived from an ode of Horace .

Initially, cricket was mainly played. Four players from UD were in the first Dutch cricket team. In later years the cricket hit more in the background, but in the 80s there were new successes: players like Steven Lubbers, Jop Werle and the brothers Kees and Tjebbe Ruskamp were selected for the national team and in 1990 the championship of the Netherlands was achieved .

UD merged in 1894 with the Excelsior football club founded a year earlier . Then football became the most important sport within the club. Highlight was the season 1907 - 1908 , when UD reached the final for the national championship, in which was lost from the Hague Quick . A number of UD graduates from that time played for the Dutch national football team , such as Jan Kok , David Wijnveldt and later Dolf Scheeffer . Wijnveldt was part of the Dutch national team that won England in 1913 for the first time.

The UD site was initially located in the flood plains of the IJssel . The dressing room was therefore built on poles. Since 1995 , UD has been playing at the Het Schootsveld sports park in De Vijfhoek residential area.

At the centenary in 1975 , UD was awarded the designation Royal .

The women's department at UD made her appearance in the middle of the 1999-2000 season. The immediate cause was the cancellation of the then existing women's football club 'Puck'. This club once belonged to the top of Dutch women's football; among others the former women's national coach Vera Pauw played with Puck.

So here we are, The Netherlands, or more specifically the 10th tier of the Netherlands thanks to a database over on steam and I'm aiming to take the oldest team in the country to the top for the first time in over a century, no specific rules so here we go!

And here I am.

This is awesome! I'm Dutch but my computer can't handle this benchload of leagues (there's 6 districts, spread over two days, and every one of those districts has eight divisions, so you're speaking of 96 divisions. And that's just one tier), so I've never done this even though I've wanted it. Good luck with this!

Thanks Timetxu! It all depends on how slow the processing is once we're a few seasons in as to whether I decide to keep all 10 tiers loaded or to remove them as I work my way up until about the 5th/6th tier I'm guessing would be more reasonable.

I love Dutch football and have been hoping you gave The Netherlands another go since your FM16 adventure there.

I never should have left N.E.C. Got unfinished business in The Netherlands!

Out of interest, which database is it on Steam?

So, Champions League in 5 years?

7 years minimum, I can qualify for the KNVB Beker in the 5th tier (5 promotions) win it whilst in the 5th tier, win the Europa League the following season whilst in the 4th tier and then win the Champions League the following season whilst I'm in the 3rd tier. Simple. :)

Aaaaactually (if the database is correct), you can qualify for the KNVB Beker if you reach the semifinals of your districtbeker (I presume it's Oost). Win the Beker in the year after, the Europa League thereafter and then it's Champions League glory ;)

The cup qualification rules are more or less that everyone in the first four tiers gets in and between the fifth and tenth tiers only the teams who reached the semifinals of the districtsbekers.

The database is not correct in that sense, no, there are no district cups. :(

Ah, that's a shame. I remember playing a database in 2017 that did have it. Even included all the correct club colours and all, but that one usually doesn't come out until spring because of the sheer work of it all.

Most of these have default logos so the OCD in me rule them out as clubs to manage.  I know there are quite a lot of clubs in the tenth tier though so plenty more to check out.

These are the only clubs in the 10th tier that have logos/aren't blue, might help if they're all together. :D

Btw, you must have the best defensive coaching in the league given you had 19 for marking, tackling and positioning back in the day.

Of course, my bad. You are Vogel after all. No surprise that you've such good attacking coaching too what with your 17 for finishing and dribbling.

Wow, this database you downloaded is really heartbreaking. Normally three teams per division who haven't won promotion would actually enter playoffs to do so.

Maybe that's a bit complicated to do in the editor? I know it's done with the Jupiler League but it may be a lot more difficult with a lot more leagues needing it since I see it's the winner of each of 3 periods.

Where do you get all these ideas for the saves? :D

Well I really enjoyed my time in the Netherlands in FM16 and ended up leaving N.E.C. with unfinished business as I decided to take over Skonto. So now I'm back in the Netherlands, add this to the fact that in a couple of weeks I'll be spending a couple of days in Amsterdam as well. :) It was between The Netherlands and Greenland but being as we have a strong contingent of people in The Netherlands I thought I'd add myself to the mix.
