Got a limit of 17 foreign players after brexit.

Do players still gain homegrown status after a few years?

Say I sign a French player at 18. Will he always be classed as foreign, no matter how long he stays at my club?

He'd become homegrown for the purposes of registration, but unless he took British citizenship, he'd still be a foreign player for the purposes of the 17 player restriction, I believe.

I'm not 100% but it should count for European competition but not for the Premier League registration.

Well no, he'd still count as homegrown for England and your club after 3 years, so he'd count towards those aspects of registration, but he'd also count as foreign until/unless he takes citizenship, just like it does before Brexit or for some other countries like Germany.
