[FM18] Uncle Jimbo's Icelandic Sound Explosion, (featuring other Countries, hopefully, if I get lucky, maybe). (You know, if there is an award for the longest thread title I have a sneaking suspicion that I might just be in with a chance of a nomination).

If I was posting a specific song for that bit then it would have to be this. (Multiple links ftw).

It's a long way to the top. HK. Oct 2020.

I've never really been a fan of AC/DC. I always considered them "too heavy" for my tastes as a youngster, and it's only now when a track comes on the radio or is used in a montage/film or an advert or something that I realise I quite like them. I'm FAR from a rocker, but if you like live music, it's pretty hard not to appreciate their live performances and in particular the energy they generate.

I had never hear the name Malcolm Young, (one of the founding members of AC/DC), and I can't tell you the name of anyone else in AC/DC, (so that shows how much of a fan I am), but I think it's sort of apt that I have got quite into them while playing this save, because a lot of the stuff I have listened to has sort of gravitated towards their songs. When you add in the "Young" surname and the nature of the save, it sort of just fits. I will admit that I have actually wanted to post more AC/DC, (I think I have posted 1 track), but I haven;t been able to link the name of a song to the post I was writing. I have been listening to loads though. The fact that he has died however has made me want to shoe-horn one of their tracks in here just for the hell of it, (so I am). I wasn't an AC/DC fan a month ago, but I am now.

These are the jobs that are available right now, but there is nothing jumping out at me. It would appear that there is a long way to go to get to a big league.

099e3373e7c166099c60e05d7993bc7f.png

If I look at insecure jobs at the moment, then there are possibly a few options there, but the reality is that I would like to win the league next season, make my debut in Europe and then move on. (That makes it all sound so easy).

45375c3368bc8e9b6e1cdfec99c12d81.png

IFK Goteborg are obviously the biggest name on the list, but someone in the thread, (apologies, can't remember who), has already mentioned SK Brann to me so that makes them interesting. The 2 bigger Finnish clubs would be a step up and I hate Steve Evans so going in and showing him how it should be done is appealing, (however Darragh Anthony or whatever his name is has a reputation for binning managers I think so maybe not).

Malcolm Young has suffered from dementia in recent years and it's something that has been on my mind recently. In my younger years I played a decent standard of rugby and suffered a few "significant" concussions. Some of you based in the UK might have seen the Alan Shearer documentary last Sunday about the significance of repetitive impacts on the head and later life. That's something I am already well aware of and ex Scottish International rugby player John Beattie also did a documentary for the BBC about the impact of cumulative concussion and later life dementia, (and particularly early onset dementia). I'm not ill so don't think I am pretending I am, but it is something that I am starting to think about more and more.

Anyway, that's enough seriousness from me. Back to the music.

International call-ups. HK. Oct 2020.

In case you haven't noticed, I have been updating post 5 on page 1 with individual player accomplishments such as International call-ups.

(18f) Dom (POL) (Pro) has 5 U21 appearances for Poland before this call-up.

(19b) Dagur Ingi (Bal) * is a 17 yo right back and becomes the 1st player to be called up to Iceland U21's.

Good riddance to Steve Evans at Peterborough. Oct 2020.

It would be fair to say, I'm not the biggest fan of Steve Evans.

6f2d6d8092a12649de6790e2a65eab02.png

Peterborough currently sit 18th in League 2. Their facilities are not great, but their finances are at least ok. I particularly like the 3rd philosophy so it seemed worthy of further investigation.

Darragh MacAnthony is Irish, but interestingly there is only 1 Irishman at the club, (no wonder Evans was shown the door). This would seem to be a reasonable option to progress up the ladder a little, but I don't know where I sit in terms of relative reputation. I don't want to go there, struggle with the original reputation issues and then get bombed out. Might make a sneaky media declaration and see what happens.

Evans knows he's miserable now

But I am bloody delighted. The man is a charlatan and a fraud and has screwed over many clubs. He's so odious he wouldn't be out of place in Billericay.

I really do despise him and I'm honestly not sure why anyone employs him.

I wish he had stayed at Leeds. Twas a good fit.

Change Your Mind. HK, Nov 2020.

The board called and impromptu meeting to discuss the increase in budget for physio's of all things. I told them that I thought that the money would be better used elsewhere and that that elsewhere is Youth Recruitment.

They told me that they thought our Youth Recruitment was in line with a club of our stature but I insisted and stressed to them how important I believed it was.

2b39d0812973245f4b4472f206b172c2.png

The balance is currently £567,548 overdrawn at the bank which is decreasing nicely I think you would agree, but there is a reason for that.

1cae2c2cddefa27acc6d6853d1ce22f6.png

This is what the Youth Recruitment is at the moment.

9420b707f8ed31aa48d3b89aff60e82d.png

The only problem is that there was not a follow-up message after the meeting to confirm that the upgrade had actually happened and the finances page suggests that it hasn't. :(

Expectations. HK. Dec 2020

There is no point in me upping the expectations as there is little benefit to be had because we have no money to invest in wages/transfers. Let's just keep the expectations low and keep the board happy. If they can completely clear the debt in time then great, but if they can't then I want to win the league in 2021 and then leave immediately after.

Where have you gone? HK. Mar 2021.

The last time I commented on this, we had 1 player who was a product of our academy who was plying his trade in the Elite Leagues of the World. He has vanished now and I still don't know who he was.

7f30237abca0916e099b9ca4ac7b72de.png

We have 41 players on our player search screen now who are products of our academy.

Some of them such as Ágúst Leó (Amb) * have been at the club under me, but others are complete strangers to me. It's interesting that straight away there is a utility central player called Damir Muminovic, (who I vaguely recognise from the same list in FM17), although my scout has given me a much better report than his FM17 version and I will be trying to sign him, along with a right back who us also currently a free agent.

Same old situation. HK. Mar 2021.

Election day has been and gone, but the same old situation remains. He offered me a new contract, (with no philosophies at all this time). I tried to play hard-ball with him bit instead of asking for a Youth Recruitment improvement, (which improves PA), I tool a leaf out of @Makoto Nakamura's book and instead opted for Junior coaching, (which assists CA), and within which I have more scope for improvement.

They didn't agree, so I didn't agree to a new contract.

(Yes, I'm really loving Haim at the moment. They look amazing live).

I want you back. HK. Apr 2020.

At 30, he is no spring chicken, but he gives us immediate strength in the DC position while we wait for our younger players to mature.

he came through the academy here at HK, (Ymir are our junior affiliate eho are in a non-playable league), before becoming a seasoned campaigner in the Pepsi-deildin.

The Invisible Man. HK. Apr 2021.

I've been thinking about the product of our academy who was playing in an Elite league until recently. Assuming that he hasn't retired since then, It's likely that he is still a member of the (ISL) National Team squad.

Hólmar Örn Eyjólfsson is a 30 years old centre-half who has 28 Senior (ISL) Caps to his name.

3ed53f94691ab0d66ec6fb251caf93fa.png

Unfortunately he hasn't been playing in an Elite league recently so he's not our invisible man.

7779e95f46ede90f46cb883d544a3bf1.png

Hólmbert Friðjónsson is our Invisible Man.  He has only 2 Senior INT Caps, (and 1 goal), but is still in the NT squad.

bda70498fc048a2c5c0cb016491e66cb.png

The reason why he was playing in an Elite league previously and isn't now is because his French Sochaux team spent just a single season in Ligue 1.

The more things change, the more they remain the same. HK. May 2021,

The new Chairman has come along with a new contract offer. It's  May 2021 now and my contract expires at the end of the year.

9762e685c1023a5ad3b08f5210fa00f2.png

They agree to the new philosophy, (they want to keep me and to be honest it makes sense when you look at the facilities we have).

I also want to get the Junior Coaching upgraded, (remember this benefits CA rather than PA of the Youth Intake), which will make it easier/quicker to see young players progress to the Senior squad.

a8a18b65ffa5ddd7e8c97a0ef9b3f521.png

Credit where it is due, I may have judged the new Chairman too harshly and certainly too quickly. The original song choice I had in mind for this post was "the more things chenge, the more they remain the same" by Bon Jovi. I was expecting more of the same and was pleasantly surprised when he agreed to not just a philosophy change, but also an upgrade in line with the new philosophy. We are still £1,006.081 overdrawn at the bank, so with the limited cost involved in the Junior Coaching, I really think that this is intelligent running of the club. If this continues, I might get to the stage where I don't want to leave HK for a few years. Things are certainly on the up.

I'm liking this new Chairman so much he deserves a 2nd track in this post:applause:

Europa League. First Qualifying Round. HK. Jul 2021.

(18c) Harald Skúlason (Amb) * scored a brace despite seeing a 1st minute penalty saved by the Sion GK. Sion are a decent team and this is a good result for us. They have great facilities and no manager. If Switzerland was an active league I would seriously think about swapping clubs.

For some reason we have been seeded for the 2nd Qualifying Round draw, (which is a huge surprise). I'm assuming it's because Sion would have been seeded so we get the benefit of their ranking? Maybe?

We are seeds.! Marvellous.

Come on. Please be kind. There are some really nice games there. (Granted Grasshoppers, Minsk, Hibs and Cluj are not easy, but come on we must have a chance against some of those.

Can we be drawn against Valur in this round? I don't think so.

The literal translation of Nomme Kalju, (according to Google so must be true), is "Dying Cliff", so of course there can be only 1 artist.

Europa League. 2nd Qualifying Round. 1st leg. HK. Jul 2021.

I was hoping for a win and a clean sheet. We got one but not the other. A 3 goal margin, (even with a goal conceded), should be enough to allow me to rest some players in the 2nd leg, (because the league games are coming thick and fast at the moment).

With a starting XI containing no less than 8 teenagers, (3 of whom were only 17), there can be only 1 song when playing against "Dying Cliff".

Europa League. 2nd Qualifying Round. 1st leg. HK. Jul 2021.

In terms of our coefficient it was probably a mistake to field such a young team, however both in terms of developing our young players, (there were also other teenagers who were considered too important to play), and maintaining a title challenge, (KR are unbeaten after 12 games), we desperately needed to freshen things up and give the usual 1st line players a breather.

£89,140 is the same amount we were given in the last round? Is that how it works? Doesn't seem right to me.

Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round Draw. HK. Jul 2021.

This could get messy. Very messy.

2921054014232c72f9127d20771ea2d1.png

We will play one of this lot. Boavista only beat our Icelandic brothers Valur 3-2 on aggregate in the last round, so I wouldn't mind having a pop at them or Karpaty. Anyone else is likely to give us a bit of a doing. It might be good to play another Scandi team, (Molde), but what I really don't want is Southampton or Villarreal.

So who do we get.....

3142c35a856f40c2811d542b25dd85f1.png

That's a bit of a result all things considered. Still probably not capable of getting a result, but I didn't think I was going to beat Sion, so what the hell.

Put your records on (show). HK. Aug 2021.

Our capacity at home is only 1,600, (and 100 of them is terracing which is not allowed in Europe so we have a reduced capacity of 1,500). We played the 1st 2 rounds at home and then played the 3rd Round at Laugardalsvöllur which is the National stadium.

Gifted Children. Youth Day. HK. 2021.

2 out of our 1st 3 intakes have been Golden Generations. I don't think that the quality of players coming through is skewed, I just think that the game struggles to replicate the facilities that Iceland has in abundance and the significance of this in terms of player generation. As recent history would suggest that Iceland are improving hugely at all levels, it also seems accurate, no matter how strange.

They won the league last season and have already played 2 Rounds of Champions League qualifying before dropping into the Europa league draw in the last Round. We get £228,000 for losing at this stage. What a huge difference qualifying for the Group stage would be. (It's not going to happen).
