We finished up the season in cracking form, and sealed CL football with a month to go.

865937ff60996f3ed5f6a5b5204ac60e.png

Took a bit of a pasting off Man City there in the end, but since it was a dead rubber I kind of wanted to make a point and brought an 18 man squad there entirely from our own youth academy. The problem with this was an injury to Shaun Lloyd, meaning the backline contained three left backs...

On the upside, it lead to this moment.

Probably not wise giving the oil patrol a good look at the guy they're going to spend the next decade plus chasing...

*waves at Marcus Edwards*, How did thinking we were beneath you go again? Enjoy the Championship, aye.

With our facilities being set for upgrade, this message came through. Hopefully this means our youth teams get proper fixtures beyond the Checkatrade, Youth Cup and Uefa Youth League.

Still though, would have been worth going for the interview and saying you wanted to go youth-only :D

Should gone to the interview and made as many unreasonable requests as you wanted, then if they do come back to hire you tell them to sod off.

Another pre-season cleared, and away we go to see if we can get a step closer to the top.

5c8c315a09318175f54058530ef44666.png

Long and productive pre-season. You'll see two Wolf Cup semis there, after playing the first day, one team(AaB) got some fixtures announced(or something?) and couldn't play day 2, which left me scrambling to set up another competition in the only remaining free days. Luckily some good teams were still available...

Vinnie could be our next press officer...

On to transfers...

7bb8f3214ceb416caeec7976232a8483.png

We were badly stuck for upgrades at right back, and it's one position that's a ghost town in the academy. This Man Utd cast off couldn't attack his dinner, but is very solid otherwise. So it was a shame to see him in the season opener, 3-0 up, 7 minutes to go, launch a leg breaker and get a straight red, 3 game out. Idiot.

2ae9b900c65b946da1825b7fb369d22f.png

This ex-Monaco lad looks a solid option at left back, but we're quite deep there, so he's currently training to be a right back too.

57f66c2c314c04a50d2c30291fd769aa.png

Juventus let this lad go, and there was quite a competition for his signature. We won, and I'm quite happy with the lad. A very well rounded striker, albeit not so creative.

fed80d5bdfdea306004ce91cd27fa9bb.png

Man City bought this lad in 2018, and spent the next 6 years loaning him out, England, Italy, France and even the USA. Still, he didn't make the cut for them, and we're happy to take on a quick forward who'll add a bit of creativity and flair to our attack. Perfect for one of the wide striker roles.

I'll admit, we now have way too many strikers, but I have to take what chances I get. Alderton is still only 18 though, and Parpajola is made of glass.

I'm surprised though, clubs rarely bid for my players any more, barring Middlesbrough chucking a random non-negotiable bit at the odd player(but I'll always reject a non-negotiable deal that's mostly clauses). I'm actually far more open to doing deals now(except Sheldon, lad has a job for life here), since I have depth in the academy to give a chance to, oh well.

Two months more, and very different ones at that, smashed September, but only one win in October.

That said, draws against Arsenal, Chelsea and Madrid aren't bard results in isolation. Just all at once makes our form a bit off.

Into the winter now, and things are rolling on at pace, especially in an utterly sparkling December....

I have zero idea how that PSG result happened..... They even played a full strength side.

Sadly all for nothing as we'd have needed Stuttgart to beat Madrid to progress.

Still a lot of big games to play that we could easily lose, but we're in an excellent position right now.

I've hit a bit of a moral dilemma, there's a player after showing up free, in January, a monster right back who'd be ideal for the team, not only the best player but fixes exactly where I'd been saying we're weakest.  Just about 23, on a free, from a big club, ranked 22nd in the world, compared to our 63rd.

The dilemma? It's Corinthians, not a club from Europe. On the other side, whilst they obviously can't have European football, they're reigning Libertadores champions.... the South American equivalent.

21ce2e5f1f71c4c65dd10d375003ddb1.png

Look at that, he's the perfect full/wingback!

4cab5fc5bc13eb373deb664b131d8a0f.png

Very affordable, considering our vast riches, despite being on far, far more than our next highest. To be fair, I've been underpaying for seasons now...

I've left it here and logged off, I'm unable to decide if signing him is ok and fits the spirit of the limitations, or undermining all the hard work done and ruining the save....

would you say this was an unforeseen circumstance from the limitations you placed at game start?

Aye, a mistake to not consider how the rules would adapt to non-European sides, probably due to my own blinkered/biased views towards European football.

I think as you are not breaking the effective rules you set, as it is still a top level released player, it should be ok.

That's the way I'm leaning, but it could just be me not thinking straight as I really, really want that player.

If you do think about the rules you have laid out surrounding European players, just replace Europe with South America and see if it breaks the rules. If not, go for it ;)

January has been the busiest window for transfers out I've had.

Fede leaves for 8m, unfair having him sit around not playing much, Parpajola for 10, a victim of severe striker depth, and Harrold leaves for 7m, to make room for a promotion.

Owusu-Ansah was the hardest decision to make, 11.25m for a club legend who'd served us admirably for years, but this season wasn't getting enough time. Spadling was sitting in the U23's rarely getting a chance despite how much I like him, so it was only fair to let him talk to Watford.

Alderton and Taylor have been promoted to the senior side.

Of course, ya'll know about Carlos Augusto already. He played six games in January, with an average rating of over eight, a goal, two assists, and two POTM awards.

Two more months down, and we're in form we haven't seen since being promoted. Also, every home league game has seen a packed crowd at the new stadium, there'll be an expansion end of season.

Not sure we can hold on to 1st, but it's an excellent place to be right now, just to be in contention rather than being well of the chase.

Youth intake day!

It's a bizarre one too, yet again tagged a golden generation. What's weird is that we didn't get a Thompson-Hull/Giles like player that seems insane quality for a just arrived player, we got two, at once! Even more oddly, one was sent from Spanish affiliate Reus, and is already better than their start player....

e2f3dcec6563f15272a6929d07351493.pngea0de5e77f6cd1d5322ef1bcf4b32227.png

This is an incredibly deep intake. I'd hazard a guess that between six and eight could have at least backup roles, depending on growth.

ff708b3bdd86b975e97d4197a2053484.png

Upson is the staff pick, and well.... Hello Mr. Mezzala! Bit of work on Dribbling, Off The Ball, Passing and he's sorted.

95a298a11fe061eeb9d28dd5eec16652.png

Pelegrin is a beast already, almost as good as Giles was on his intake day.

Young, Hunt and Dynan could all be very good too, but need a lot more work to develop.

Kinda messed up here, meant to give the update at the start of May, but accidentally went on and played the first May fixture, anyway, 3 games left, title race is tight as all heck. Man Utd have a game in hand, if they win they'll take the lead.

da43080165092e6e4aa8fea8e0b196f2.png

Getting a little leggy, but we should be alright not having to slog through the Europa any more.

Yup, we're going to have to get something at Old Trafford if we're to make it. On the upside, besides the direct game, Man Utd have the much harder run in.

EDIT: I realise after posting I should have just waited til the 10th to post, when we both have 3 league games left....

Double Edit: Arsenal were, well, useless....

That's brilliant! Just think that 94th minute goal against QPR seemed filler at the time but in the end it won you the league!

What a ridiculous end to the season, with an 81st minute goal to clinch it. Just imagine the commentary during that game in real life. Everybody anticipating a BPA championship by Spurs doing something against United and then, the attention shifts to the goal difference thingy halfway through the gameday.

Craziest finish to a FM season I've ever had, never thought we'd do it on the last day once United scored in the 1st minute.

Up until this season, it's been the most one sided league in Europe, even PSG have only been trading titles with Monaco in France.

Italy was the next worst, but Inter had won one in 22/23, but if you include pre-save titles, Juve have 13 of the last 15 leagues.

So, after that improbable league we had a big summer ahead, or so I thought. In the end though, no one really came in for our players, and I ended up having to have a mini clear our of the U23's.

Clear out, just sent Roberts on loan as we may need him as a CB in future, despite his lack of aerial skills.

Incoming.

Not sure why I signed this ex-Juve lad, but I guess an opportunity is an opportunity. He's a good player, and had the potential to be very good.

07e4d11f6407d046f305a52f2162b9f1.png

This is the real surprise! Chelsea released this cracking young fullback! Needs rid of that horrible trait(Chelsea have it given to their star wingback too...), but other than that, he's an ideal rotation option for Augusto. Professional and Determined as well!

I'd been watching him since January, thinking "they're definitely going to offer him a contract soon..." weekly up until he was let go...
