HOWEVER, only 3 players in their 22-man first team squad are worth less than my top priced player. And their highest valued player is worth almost SEVEN times what my top valued player is. Gut feeling is that we're going to be hammered.

Bah. That's just league reputation hurting you. You've got this.

RKC Waalwijk

 JANUARY 2026 HALF-SEASON REVIEW

We kicked off the post-transfer window September in the Eredivisie with a 1-1 draw with sc Heerenveen. This gave us a platform in which we only dropped 10 points in the 5 months and 17 games between windows. Our dropped points first came in an away game against Feyenoord Rotterdam, where two early goals meant we could only drew 1-1. Then, a second half hat-trick by the Eredivisie's top scorer saw us fall 1-3 away against Heracles Almelo. We then stumbled to a 1-1 draw with an abject performance away at ADO Den Haag. Finally, we lost 0-1 to FC Groningen in a match where our front three averaged 6.2..

In the KNVB Beker, we faced Jupiler League opposition in Go Ahead Eagles for the second year running and for the second year running, we sent them back to Deventer with their tail between their legs as we won 4-0. We then faced non-league opposition in the Second Round in the shape of BVV Barendrecht and  we romped home, 8-0, despite suffering a sending off at 4-0 up. We ran over FC Utrecht 4-1 in the Third Round, before getting our revenge on Heracles Almelo in the Quarter Final as we scored three unanswered goals to win 3-0.

In our, by now, regular foray into the UEFA Champions League, we were placed in Group B with Chelsea FC, Malaga FC S.A.D and L'Olympique Marseille. And we pulled off the same result as the last time we won the Eredivisie. Apart from putting out the reserves against Chelsea and getting hammered, we beat Malaga and Marseille both home and away to finish the group in second place.

Transfers

First up, we had Australian winger Vince Thomas come in on a free transfer. He's not likely to get anywhere near the first team, so I'm retraining him to an MC and hopefully selling him off for a good profit. Then we were approached by FC Twente Enschede who wanted to buy stalwart left back Mauro Savastano and for £2.3m, they got their man as Tempo had become first choice in the position this season and Van Lankveld was a good backup.

I then moved to take former player Ryan van Hoeven on loan from VfB Stuttgart before submitting a cheeky £9.5m bid for him which was happily accepted. We sold Ryan to them for £17.75m, bought him back for £9.5m then, to add insult to injury, we got 50% of that fee back because of the sell-on clause :D

Due to this arrival, we because flush in the middle of the park and summer arrival Sinan Cengiz was sold to Jupiler League promotion chasers FC Dordrecht for £250k. Finally, we went back for another ex-player as Lille OSC decided to offload Wilbert van Rosmalen. In a battle with PSV Eindhoven, we eventually won out with a £400k bid. He would immediately become Visser's #2, allowing the kid previously backing him up, game time at a lower level.

22 year old Wilbert FINALLY made his debut for the club after coming into the ranks in 2020, being sold in 2022 and bought back in 2027. He played all 90 mins of this league encounter, saving two shots and keeping a clean sheet. However, he only made 11 of 27 passes, which is something to address moving on. He finished the game with a 6.9 match rating.

A disputed penalty. Great.

Corrupt UEFA strikes again, making sure the big name teams go through.

We FM'd Barcelona in the worst way. Dembele played us off the pitch, Dirk Stevens got himself sent off, yet we came away with the win

15 year old Diego Kuiper was a product of this year's intake and, with the title already won, he got a run out in the last game of the season. He attempted a spectacular 12 tackles. losing only one of them, combined with 24 successful passes. He also ran 9km and also came away with the Man Of The Match award with his 8.9 rating.

17 year old Said was my third choice BWM and, like Kuiper, was deployed in a nothing game. He attempted 7 tackles and lost out twice. He also made 46 complete passes and had two shots, one threatening the touchline more than the goal. He ran 13km in all to end up with a 8.0 rating

18 year old John came into the side again because we had nothing to lose or play for. He had an all-action game, winning one tackle and losing another, which led to a booking. He completed a good 70 passes, with two dribbles and one shot just wide. He also ran 13km for a match rating of 7.5
