[Suggestion] Game changing feature for FM 18

Recommended Posts

I think it would be a great idea if there's an option to change tactical shape in the game. Like for example our formation is 3-4-3. The shape will change when we're on defending, like from 3-4-3 to 4-4-2 for some reason, or 5-3-2. It really could be a game changer.

You can already do this.

First of all your starting formation IS what you look like without the ball. So if you've set up 3-4-3 then that is how your team will look behind the ball. Next you decide who goes up in attacks and how quickly. You do this through choosing Roles, Duties and overall Mentality & Shape.

If you want to be a 4-4-2 when you lose the ball then just set up as a 4-4-2. If you want to transition into a 3-4-3, its really easy. Your two CD's are already staying back because they're on Defend Duties. Just choose either one of your fullbacks to stay back with them (by putting them on a Defend Duty) or one of your central midfielders to drop back in (usually by using a Defend Duty) and there you go, you've mad a defensive three.

Now you've got a midfield four of either 2 fullbacks on Support Duty, 1 central midfielder on Support & probably 1 wide midfielder on Support or 1 fullback on Support, 2 CMs on Support & 1 Wide Midfielder on Support. Your attacking 3 takes care of itself. 3....4....3.

There are also plenty of other ways of doing this with the tools already in the game.

The same principle applies for any other system. Your starting formation is, in general, your perfect defensive shape. How you look when you go forward depends on your Roles (how your players go forward or stay back), their Duties (by and large how quickly they go forward or stay back) & mentality/Shape (in what circumstances they go forward or stay back).

Hope this helps.

yea i see what you mean... in theory this can kinda work... the only thing is some roles have these pre-determinded player instrutions - which can make what your trying to difficult...

also sometimes the positioning can be a little off... like its hard to get a RM to play RM on defense, put to play as R-CF... like if u had a 3-4-2-1..maybe you want your RM to play like a false 9 on the right on attack... telling him to get futher foward and sit narrower still wont put him as far up as a false 9 on the right....

nonetheless your explanation does in fact help.... gives players an idea to work with... so defitnly appreciate the post... but also do want to say i can see why Ahmdfjraz made a request to be able to allow your team to go from 1 formation to another when switicng from offense to defense and vise versa... and i personally would like it if it was added to the game..

but thanks mate for the post hopefully some1 wud read it and get some creative ideas from it  😆

cheers... good luck gaming
