Default skin with Opposition roles?

Recommended Posts

okay so I've found this in another skin:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<panel>
  <flags id="selected_appearance" value="boxes/custom/tactics kit/selected/paper"/>

  <layout class="arrange_vertical_attachment" alignment="bottom,extend" offset="0" gap="-7"/>
  <layout class="stick_to_sides_attachment" alignment="horizontal" inset="-1" layout_children="true"/>

  <container>
    <layout class="arrange_vertical_attachment" alignment="top,extend" offset="0" gap="-7"/>
    <layout class="stick_to_sides_attachment" alignment="horizontal" inset="-1" layout_children="true"/>

    <!--Capstick: I have literally no idea why this spacer is here, it only serves to make the icons tiny on
    the match formation widget and the match formation lineups panels, it's silly.-->
    <!--<container height="18"/>-->

    <container>
      <widget class="tactics_kit_picture" id="kitp">
        <layout class="stick_to_sides_attachment" alignment="all" inset="0"/>
      </widget>

      <!--containers for the indicators-->
      <!--injury/red/yellow card-->
      <container id="inji" width="16" height="14">

</panel>

and I have out this into my panel folder, however I get this:

That means you have deleted something from the coding/it isn't closed correctly, one false move and that error message appears so you need to be careful. So either identify what you've deleted (ctrl+Z might help if you have the panel open or using notepad++ highlights coding 'blocks' if you're familiar with using this, it directs you if there is something amiss as the 'brackets' in the margin remain open) If you have no idea what you've deleted, can't see what you've changed by cross referencing with the above you've enclosed or are unsure by any of this, start again and acquire the panel from wherever you got it originally and as wkd says it's probably the height of the container which needs adjusting or a slight tweak in the format and make sure you only alter the numbers and don't delete anything else.

I literally just changed the height from 10 to 8 and that was it. I was just using textedit on my Mac. I didn't touch anything else.

I've been skinning for a few years and forgot to close plenty of codes and made plenty of errors in that time and I've received that exact same error message (barring the line of the error of course, forgot to say notepad++ even numbers the lines so that can be a guide of the issue too, line 49 in your case) each time, so I would question that but the reason is largely irrelevant tbh, there's a problem with the code so unless you can rectify it, with the guidance I suggested, start again and re-acquire the panel from wherever you got it, no big deal, you can make as many attempts as you wish.

Notepad++ doesn't seem to work on a Mac, is there anything like it for Mac? Or is there an easier way to achieve what I am trying?

I don't have a Mac so not familiar I'm afraid, I'm sure I've seen some things mentioned in passing, search the skinning forum for 'Mac' and have a quick scan of the threads to see what's mentioned, possibly...

I would have thought deleting the panel and starting again was the easiest option though as all you need to change is a number value or two so it's not a whole host of changes you're losing nor does it require much if any coding knowledge to proceed, just re-finding what you've already found (if you didn't keep a copy that is, if you still have a back-up copy then obviously it's a no-brainer)

I used a fresh copy of it from the download, I opened it up with textedit (basically notepad) and changed the 10 to an 8. Hit save. That was all I done.

We're going around in circles here, good luck.

You're telling me I broke something, but telling me to change that number, and that's all I have changed, so how can I have broke something?

I just want to add the opposition roles to the default skin.

Hi,

since FM generates this error message only if it's no correct XML in the file, you (or maybe the texteditor you are using) HAVE BROKEN something ;-) That's not to offend you, but that's a fact. I haven't come across this kind of error without later finding an error (missing opening or closing bracket, missing ", forgot to delete or create an additional tag etc...).

You may post your whole file here again and we have a look, but maybe you should consider the help you get here not being an offense but just that: help! ;)

Additionally, but maybe I misunderstood something... you are arguing that the box for Role/Duty is too small and still want to get a smaller container by reducing it's heigth? Don't know if that will produce what you want... Which screen resolution do you use? Potentially the shirt & box don't have enough space on your pitch to actually show in full since I do have exactly the same values in my files and it works great on 1920x1080 and larger... And maybe you want to copy over the "boxes/bordered/no margin/paper3"-File from the skin you took your xml, too...

Okay I will start from scratch. Current Default white skin screen I am talking about:

Yu3rk2w.png

The roles/duties already show under my players, I'd like them to show under the opposition as well.

I downloaded this skin: https://sortitoutsi.net/downloads/view/31599/cfm-skin-2017-v10

Which when installed looks like this:

a0MF2Kx.png

However I only used this skin as I was struggling vs a certain formation and wanted to understand why. I don't like the skin, I like the default white one. So I want to add the opposition roles and duties to that. So I downloaded this:

I then went through the panels from the first skin I downloaded and worked out which file it was that shows them, it was this file:

Iifjnow.png

But the roles/duties are there, but don't fit:

I4OumVp.png

And it also changes the way it looks, which may be part of the problem?

I was advised to change the number 10 in this line:]

<container id="oppo" height="10">

to a smaller number. I put 8, saved it, closed it. Reloaded the skin and reset cache. Went to the tactics screen and I got the error message I put above.

Ideally all I want is to add the opposition instructions to the same box they show under the default white skin like they do on my team. I am just trying to work out how to do that. I tried the method of using a panel from a different skin. That doesn't seem to have worked. Do you/does anyone know a way to do this?

As I said, since you get an error, pls post your CURRENT "tactics icon basic horizontal info panel.xml" here. There has to be an error. If you won't, I can't help, sorry. Your only problem is the size and appearance of the box, as far as I can see, so we should look there...

I downloaded an app called brackets. Went in and changed the 10 to a 14, it then disappears completely. I put 6 and it when hides under the player name. So 10 is correct. I just need to work out how to show the info now. So by that you're correct I need to adjust the box, but I have no idea which one that is?

I have used the same file from the skin called: Vitrex17, I haven't done anything to it so far, this is the code:

this gives me this:

I done it!

Used the resource editor to grab the same file, and removed part of it. Created a panels folder, then tactics folder. Saved it there. Changed skin to the actual FM2017 white skin. And there we go :)

The problem is (or was as you have fixed it) with that program on the Mac as it replaces the " with a slanted version that is actually a different character which isn't understood by FM, there should be an option in the program somewhere to stop it from doing that (smart punctuation I think it's called?).

Thank you. One more question: is there any way to see the opposition player roles during the game in a panel?

If you turn that on then the roles should show on the various formation screens during a match.

I appreciate all the help so far. Now I have discovered your Match Screen Mod and I am trying to change the panels there to show opposition player roles as well. I am pretty sure it's the "match both formations ibh_h" I have to modify (when watching the horizontal panel ofc). I just do not know what to do exactly.

You don't need to edit those files, it's the file mentioned in this post you need to edit and it will then affect all the formation panels that show shirts:

Hello,

I tried to visualize the opposition roles and duties in FM 2019 as described above. Sadly, when I copied the "tactical icon basic horizontal info panel" from the FM 2017 (which worked well for this version) into the FM 2019 folder, it did not work. I was wondering, if somebody would be so kind to share a working file with me or would tell me how I need to edit the following code to make it work.  Thank you very much in advance for your help.

@michaeltmurrayuk do you think you could help me out?

      <!--debug role/duty-->
    <container id="oppo" height="10">
        <layout class="arrange_horizontal_attachment" alignment="left" offset="0" gap="4"/>
        <layout class="centre_in_parent_attachment" alignment="horizontal" inset="0"/>
        <layout class="fit_children_attachment" alignment="horizontal, fill" inset="0" offset="0" gap="4"/>
        <layout class="arrange_horizontal_attachment" alignment="left" offset="0" gap="4"/>
        <layout class="stick_to_sides_attachment" alignment="vertical" inset="0" layout_children="true"/>

        <widget class="tactical_role_label" id="role" abbt="true" size="xsmall" colour="white" auto_size="horizontal"/>
        <widget class="label" size="xsmall" colour="faded white" auto_size="horizontal">

        </widget>
        <widget class="tactical_role_label" id="duty" abbt="true" size="xsmall" colour="white" auto_size="horizontal"/>
      </container>

change the top line to say

    <container id="" height="10">

For the record, it wont work because FM17 files have different code to FM19, mostly 'layout_children' was replaced with 'apply_to_children'.

The easier option would be to follow this guide, and grab the file from FM19, and remove the ID in that.
