BoxToBox Posted April 26, 2017 Author Share Posted April 26, 2017 Season Review. A pretty excellent start to the save. Picking up a league win and CL football much sooner than expected. Better than expected results in Europe, even keeping it close with Villareal(if only we hadn't conceded an 80th minute free kick after defending resolutely for 70 minutes in the home leg...) Hit the board objective of a cup semi final, but I threw the backups to FCK as the league was much more important. Surprisingly, they took them to ET. Brought in a lot of young talent in January, we've a solid backbone to build on, and an academy littered with gems, hopefully we can repeat last season. We'll have to sell to buy, and with Mukhtar's pending permanent deal, we'll be starting at minus 1m, so that makes things tricky, as we need forwards, and the best LB at the club broke his ankle in a training session three days after the final game of the season(why!?!). Still, I can bring in all the free agents I like.... Preliminary Phase - Champions Group - Cup - Europe Great league season, the most impressive thing I feel is, that FCK actually broke the leagues point and wins records, never mind us. EDIT: On his debut in the last game of the season, Casper Holm not only became the youngest player in league history, but also youngest goal scorer. A CB being player out of position as a CM(d).... Pace is gone, but he's strong, fit, and his defensive and mental attributes are excellent! Pace isn't really an issue normally, I've had plenty of success in past FM's with slow tank CB's, and even looking at the PL, notable slow CB's like Mertesacker and Terry are throwing up fine average ratings, Olsson himself averaged 7.11 in 20(+15) games for West Brom last season. There is a but though, I play a 5-3-2/3-5-2, with two wide spread CB's and a Libero. Asking a slow CB to play wide left CB might be a bit much. Wages are an issue, he wants 20k, max I can offer is 15k, 15k is still going to be 50% more than our next highest paid player. I could wait a few weeks and see if his demands go down once his contract expires and he's a free agent, but maybe by then other clubs would pick up interest. I couldn't believe it, we actually had a much easier run at getting into the CL than we did the Europa. Once past Valerenga, it was pretty easy draws. On the flip side, whoever picked the balls out of the bowl for the groups is a FCK season ticket holder.... Look at that! ****! I won't show the 20-30 players released. We also had a retirement, team captain Thomas Kahlenberg, he goes straight into the youth team as a coach. Crone was let go as we had a better replacement coming in on a free. Arajuuri was let go as he'd be a backup, and I picked up a HG player on a free that'll be happier to ride the pine. Corlu wasn't developing much, and constantly complained. Hermannsson, I didn't want to let go, but it was a good price and a Serie A side, good luck to him. Austin was great for us, but at 32 he was better off picking up a long term contract at Piast, and we had money to pick up replacements by this stage. Dyrestram didn't develop much, and we're more competitive at CB now, so it suits him to get first team football. We only loaned this youth because I managed to wedge in a 600k future fee. Backup keeper. A freebie, he's quality and good in all the relevant areas, I'm delighted with this deal. We were short up front, so Armenteros comes in on a free, and has been in ridiculous form, 7 starts, 3 subs, 10 goals, 7 assists already, including a goal and assist in a 2-0 win against FCK. Backup Libero for the next two seasons. Brondby oldboy, backup CB, helps with squad registrations. Brought in to develop in the youth team as a Libero. Initially brought in to replace Hermannsson, I'll actually play him at CM replacing Austin. Brought in to replace Gabrielsen at CB...... Depth at CM, well rounded enough to cover either CM role, or do other jobs from the bench if I feel I need to change tack. Last minute upgrade at left wingback. Anyway, last time I mostly posted all the first team options, so I'll add in all the youths here. Karlsson doesn't look like much, but free and potentially 4.5-5*, I'll take that risk! Bjorkheim on the other hand looks the real deal, and could get minutes this season. Ingebrigtsvoll looks like a real handy midfielder if his passing grows, Bjerke was just a punt when I saw some good English sides eyeing him up. Aanonsen looks quite the steal for a well rounded mid, Keto was brought in for depth, but sent back out when Roskilde were badly stuck for a keeper. Radford and Lien were a pair the scouting team wanted to sign, for no money, sure we'll have a crack. Bjorkoyli is a much needed youth keeper, Solli a cheap punt, some of the Norwegian big boys wanted him too, so may have a bit about him. Another talented pair of AMC prospects, from pretty good academies. A winger doesn't really fit with out team, but he's physically and technically good, decent personality and from one of the best Norwegian academies, could be a tidy wee earner. In other news, the star of the first intake Kasper Eriksen, looking like the real deal, spent all summer batting away interest from Real Madrid, Man Utd and Man City, topping off at the 5m mark. We had Man Utd visiting us, whilst Milan went to Madrid needing a win to get Europa football. United handily deal with us, 1-3, but Milan were toothless as Madrid eased to a 2-0 home win. Man Utd, beat us twice, but four draws otherwise, Milan got noting besides two draws with us. Southampton, again! The winner of our group last season, but also losing finalists. This is a good deal, normally, but... 1, There's zero chance of me landing a player of comparable quality, there aren't many Nordic keepers above him, nor many at his level, basically all are off limits. 2, I could tell them to 'eff off, but Ronnow, despite seeming to be perfectly happy, when offered a new contract, says he wants to leave at the end of his current deal, in 1.5 years. I have this fellow coming in, we'll he was planned as a backup. He's alright, could certainly do a job against most of the league. Might still have a little upside to grow into. These are the best of the available options. Good, but already 33, probably looking to get 1.5 - 2.5 seasons out of him. Not sure if I can get this fellow, I can try, not as good as Jarstein, but younger. Scouting, but he's doubtless out of my price range, better than Larsen, younger than Jarstein. Steady is good enough for now, we're not going to really pull up trees in Europe yet, and he's certainly good enough for the league. Only the three outgoings, but three big ones. Ronnow has been discussed enough, Nilsson never kicked on, despite scoring plenty so I was comfortable accepting a big offer, Rocker is class, but I was happy enough to deal, Kasper Eriksson's getting a shot at the first team. Lots in, as per usual, mostly prospects. Two new keepers. Christiansen I really like, bit creative, bit technical, bit quick, with a nasty streak. Myhre probably has the turning circle of an oil rig, but otherwise looks a cracking holding mid, worth a punt. Enevoldsen looks to be one of the best Danish prospects about, Seppa looks the real deal too. Bunch of fliers, the Russian is from Finland, and the Bosnian from Sweden.
