[FM17] - Success Is Not Forever And Failure Isn't Fatal

DazRTaylor

Recommended Posts

So after a long hiatus on this forum, I am keen to document a new career save.  This will be a journeyman career and have no idea where I will end up and where I will manage.

Game Type - Journeyman Career, starting unemployed, with no coaching qualifications and Sunday League reputation.

Editor's Used

  • Huge Database added.
  • Susie's Real Name Editor.
  • International Team Competitions History.

Leagues Loaded

All leagues have been loaded to their lowest level that comes with the game.  So England goes down to the Conference North/South, for example.

  • Australia.
  • China.
  • South Korea.
  • South Africa.
  • Belgium
  • Denmark.
  • England.
  • Finland.
  • France.
  • Germany.
  • Greece.
  • Iceland.
  • Republic of Ireland.
  • Italy.
  • Netherlands.
  • Northern Ireland.
  • Norway.
  • Portugal.
  • Scotland.
  • Spain.
  • Sweden.
  • Turkey.
  • Wales.
  • Mexico.
  • United States.
  • Argentina.
  • Brazil.
  • Uruguay.

Database Size - Huge.

So we have 28 nations, 73 leagues and 117,140 players are loaded.

Other

I love developing players so I will tag any player with a YP code if I feel they can become a first team player in time. Also, I will always try to go to a club that has a quality youth setup (Southampton being a must for me).

Updates

Pre season, mid season, youth candidates day and end of season.  Also, any "special events".

Sam Wardorp signed on a season long loan from Celtic.

gC3xju.png

Jordan Wilson signed on a free transfer.

RYoah2.png

Russell McLean signed from East Kilbride for a transfer fee of £6,000.

Season 2016/17

Forfar Athletic

League

A good first season at the club, with promotion secured with a game to spare.  We made it hard though, with our worst run of the season coming during the run in, winning only one of our last eight league games.

Forfar Athletic

Media Prediction - 2nd.  Blimey.  The board expect playoffs!

My Expectation - 6th.  Safe, mid table will do me fine.  No idea why they think we have a chance of going up.

Transfer Budget - £2,234.  With next to no funds, I am going to have to choose my loan signings wisely.

Wage Budget - £6,393 per week.

Pre Season Friendlies

Overall, not too bad.  A good home draw with Charlton Athletic, though a poor loss at home to Dumbarton.

Squad

The squad for the new season looks like this:

Transfers

Players In

v3AiHN.png

Quite a few new arrivals as I wheeled and dealed.

Paul Lawson - 33 year old central midfielder has been brought in on a free transfer from Formartine Utd to add experience.

Jonathan Page - Signed on a free transfer from East Fife, this 27 year old central defender will hopefully prove to be a good squad player.

Ricardo Kessels - 19 year old winger come striker, signed on a free transfer from Berwick Rangers.

Darren Whyte - 20 year old central midfielder signed from St. Mirren on a free transfer.  Should start.

Adam Cummins - 24 year old English centre back, signed from Queen's Park on a free transfer.  Will provide cover.

Willie Cawley - 16 year old striker poached from Queen's Park on a free transfer.  One for the future.

Jamie Lynn - Also acquired from Queen's Park on a free transfer, this 16 year old winger is also one for the future.

Sam Beith - Another 16 year old, this central midfielder arrives from Albion Rovers on a free transfer.

Ross Barbour - Released by Troon, this 24 year old right back has signed on a free transfer and should start at right back.

Lewis Spence - 21 year old central midfielder signed on a free after his release by Dunfermline.

Callum McFadzean - 23 year old left winger signed on loan from Kilmarnock for the season.  Quite a coup to land him.

Jack Thomson - He may only be 17 years old, but this defensive midfielder should prove to be a starter.  Signed on a season long loan from Rangers.

Scott McKenna - 20 year old left back signed on loan for the season from Aberdeen.

Harry Paton - Another teenager, this 19 year old Canadian central midfielder arrives from parent club Hearts for the season on loan.

Ryan Hoggan - Released by Ross County, this 18 year old right back will compete for a starting point.

Jamie-Dean McDonagh - A 21 year old right winger come striker, this Irishman signs on a free transfer after being released by Morton.

Players Out

nGzd5f.png

I managed to retain all of my key players and a few fringe and reserve players left.  I even managed to obtain a fee for the injury prone Lewis Milne.

Mid Season Review

Season 2017/18

Forfar Athletic

1024px-Forfar_Athletic_FC_logo.svg.png

League

An excellent run of form, which saw us go on an unbeaten run of twelve league games, before going down 2-1 away to bogey side Cowdenbeath.  It looks like a two horse race between ourselves and Livingston for the title.  We currently lie second, two points off the top.

KzSCF3.png

OuDRUC.png

Scottish Cup

Very poor.  We go out at the first time of asking, well beaten at home by fellow League One side Cowdenbeath.

po1ZxU.png

Challenge Cup

A good cup run, including an excellent win over Championship outfit Hibernian.  We lost to League Two Stirling, which was very disappointing.

pyT3QQ.png

Scottish League Cup

Just like last season, we finished third in our group and were eliminated.  We started off with two wins from two (including a penalty shoot out victory), but then it went downhill.

J4LQ1h.png

fqc6oj.png

Transfers

Only one new player arrived, with 16 year old central midfielder Lee Lavery signing from promotion rivals Livingston for £16,000.  A fine future prospect.

VEjqim.png

I sold a few fringe players who were not getting much game time.  In total, four players left, raising £50,000 in transfer fees.

Season 2017/18

Forfar Athletic

1024px-Forfar_Athletic_FC_logo.svg.png

League

A fantastic six game winning run, which was ended by that team Cowdenbeath, took us clear at the top of the table and we never looked back, securing promotion with two games to spare.  We ended the season unbeaten in twelve league games.  We also finished the season unbeaten at home.

Season Preview

Season 2018/19

Forfar Athletic

1024px-Forfar_Athletic_FC_logo.svg.png

Media Prediction - 10th.  We will finish bottom apparently!

My Expectation - 8th.  Outside ther relegation playoffs must be my aim.

Transfer Budget - £42,650.  A decent budget for this club.

Wage Budget - £10,506 per week.  A healthy increase from last season.

Pre Season Friendlies

A pretty good preseason.  We won the games we were expected to win and the only defeats were at home to the two Glasgow giants, losing by the odd goal in both.  An excellent draw with Reading was the highlight.

5fHClK.png

Squad

The squad for the new season looks like this:

Rzda0d.png

Transfers

Players In

The squad needed quite a lot of strengthening to be competitive in this league.  I just hope it is enough.

gUDUpm.png

Jack Thomson - The 18 year old defensive midfielder renewed his season long loan from Rangers for another season.

Alan Ferry - 17 year old central defender signs on a season long loan from parent club Hearts.

Cameron Blues - Released by Falkirk at the end of his contract, the 20 year old midfielder signs on a free transfer.

Callum McFadzean - Delighted to sign this 24 year old left winger permanently.  Had a tremendous loan spell with us last season and he has signed from Kilmarnock for a transfer fee of £5,250.

Jack McCarthy - 16 year old English left winger signed on a free transfer from Berwick Rangers.  One for the future.

Alex Crean - 18 year old goalkeeper signed as understudy to Ross Doohan.  Released by Arsenal after his contract expired.

Robbie Buchanan - Hearts released this 22 year old right winger so he joins on a free transfer.

Josh Wight - One for the future, this 16 year old central defender joins from Queen's Park on a free transfer.

Scott McKenna - Like Callum McFadzean, this 21 year old left back had a very productive loan spell with us last season.  Signed from Aberdeen for a transfer fee of £6,000.

Ross Doohan - 20 year old goalkeeper signed on a free transfer after his release by Motherwell.  Will start as our new Number One.

Frank Ross - 20 year old central midfielder signs from Aberdeen for a transfer fee of £14,000.

Players Out

QMGien.png

Seven players left the club, including hot prospect Willie Cawley, who I signed last summer from Queen's Park.  £100,000, plus a 50% sell on clause, was too good to turn down.

I've got 3 observations to make.

- The results are incredible. 2 seasons, 2 promotions. Can't beat that really.

- You're playing at an incredible pace, don't forget to occasionally eat, go to the bathroom, change underwear.

- Bloody hell that's a lot of transfers.

Thanks Noikeee.  :)

Running so many leagues doesn't hinder the speed anymore which is great!

As for the transfers, my scouts are not allowed a day off.  :D

Three more players have been brought in to bolster my squad for a tough campaign.

David Wilson is a 23 year old central midfielder brought in on a free transfer after being released by Partick Thistle.

L5UuHk.png

I have again raided Queen's Park and this time, 16 year old goalkeeper Willie Smith signs on a free transfer.

6aLowC.png

Offered to the club by his agent, 21 year old centre back Manuele Macera signs on a free transfer after being released by Livorno.

Mid Season Review

Season 2018/19

Forfar Athletic

1024px-Forfar_Athletic_FC_logo.svg.png

League

A very satisfying recovery, considering we were bottom of the table after nine games.  The form we are in is nothing short of sensational.

jdcv2i.png

qbEfQV.png

Scottish Cup

We hammered non league Heriot-Watt University 9-0 before narrowly beating Hamilton 3-2.  We are away to top flight Dundee in the next round.

c2u4C3.png

Challenge Cup

A poor run, with a lucky win over Peterhead following by an awful defeat by lower league Stranraer.

5BNWSv.png

Scottish League Cup

For the third year running, we finish third in our group and therefore don't qualify for the quarter finals.  We started with two penalty shootout losses, so work is needed there!

T24Os5.png

9PxgAS.png

Transfers

Only two arrivals in January and just the one departure with backup Robbie Buchanan joining Hamilton for a transfer fee of £5,250.  Details of the two new players are below.

aQPH6R.png

You remember Willie Cawley, the teenager I sold to Motherwell for £100,000?  Well, they figured he wouldn't make the grade at Fir Park and released him.  So I have re-signed him on a free transfer.

I2pWbQ.png

I am over the moon to bring this 23 year old Australian right back in on loan for the rest of the season, from our parent club, Hearts.  He is now far and away the best player at the club.

Season 2018/19

Forfar Athletic

Only two games since the mid season update, a disappointing home defeat to league leader Inverness and a win over Queen of the South.  We remain in second place.

You are probably wondering why I am doing an interim update...

That's why you're getting such offers. They boost reputation a lot, which causes the game to behave unrealistically. I've had the same thing on my save.

Ouch.

On the bright side, this might push you to move somewhere else, the city of Den Haag sounds boring. Administrative center, International War Court location. Boring. I imagine a stadium attended by lawyers in their suitcases rather than passionate ultras.
