sherwinriga
Not happy with the gutting! Hope you brought them back again like they were promoted last season. In the meantime, great updates from choosing Gibraltar then heading to Spain. I'll be following!

I always play a save because I enjoy it and do what I wanna do but didn't wanna do anything without consulting my readers. I am getting absolutely smashes with Palencia and tbh it's killing my enjoyment of the save, we are so rubbish for this league we just can't compete. The issue is in Spain the normal 3 are running away with everything and there is no way I will get a job with them for the forseeable future. So my thought is to move country to the nearest bordering one, so that's either France, Andorra or Portugal. The problem is I will be leaving without winning La Liga, does anyone have a problem with that? I want to progress this save and keep it fresh and enjoyable not only for you but also for me, and at the end of the day I need to enjoy it first and foremost. Your comments are appreciated Why not go to Portugal, as with your neighbouring country rule, you have to come back through Spain. Spend some time in Portugal, get your rep up with some Euro exploits, and pick up a decent La Liga team before going on to France
the_gaffa
Great thread. Unlucky with the relegation but looking forward to seeing where you end up next. What skin is that btw? Wouldn't mind giving a try myself.
ManUtd1
Oof...brutal relegation. Perhaps promotion came a year to early. A year to regroup/consolidate in the Segunda may set yourself up for longer-term success. As to what to do with the save, honestly it's 110% your call. What makes reading these fun is vicariously enjoying the save with the author -- feeling the highs, the lows, and all the in-between. If you aren't enjoying playing it, we won't enjoy reading about it. So, do what makes you enjoy the save most -- if it isn't with Palencia, then so be it. I completely agree with your comment about the save, I have to enjoy it which in turn will make the reader enjoy it. I'll always do what I wanna do, that's always been the way I play, I just wanted to make sure the readers were happy with me going away from the premise of winning the league title before moving on. I just wanna tour the world and see what happens, I love a journeyman save, I've never been one for staying at a club for too long always get itchy feet! stevelcfc2011
NEW CLUB!! It's taken a very long time for the right job to come up. I applied for and turned job a lot of them but then a job came up, not the biggest but something very very interesting. Red Star FC in the 2nd tier of the French League, am I mad I can hear you asking. But here is the reason it's so interesting. They have a tycoon chairman!! Oh hell yeh. 2nd tier of French football and a £5.4m transfer budget. This is gonna be fun! Here is a little bit of history off of their Wiki page: Red Star Football Club, also known simply as Red Star (French pronunciation: [ʁɛd staʁ futbɔl klœb]), is a French association football club founded in Paris in 1897. The club currently play in Ligue 2. As of 2016, Red Star plays its home matches at the Stade Jean-Bouin[2] as their traditional home, Stade Bauer in Saint-Ouen does not meet the necessary requirements of a French second tier stadium. Despite the club's long spell under a semi-pro status, Red Star has a rich history. The club was founded in 1897 under the name Red Star Club Français by French football legend Jules Rimet. Rimet later went on to serve as president of both the French Football Federation and FIFA. The original FIFA World Cup trophy was named in his honour. Red Star is one of the founding members of Ligue 1 and have spent 19 seasons in the first division; the club's last stint being in 1974–75. In cup competitions, the club has won five Coupe de France titles, which is tied for fifth-best among clubs. So it's currently March 2025 and Red Star are 13th in Ligue 2. 9 games left, we aren't going down and are way too far off the promotion spots (top 2 automatically, 3rd in a promotion play-off). So a few games to assess the squad with no real pressure. Here is the 1st team squad: Here is the reserve squad: And here is the Under 19s : Here are who I think are my key players: We do have a very very good squad, they just need to improve morale and we can definitely be pushing for promotion next season. Here are a few other random club screens: Finances currently aren't that good but I expect the Tycoon chairman to pump money in and as and when required. So what are my aims for my 3 or 4 seasons in charge? I want and expect promotion next season, stability and staying clear of relegation is the aim for season 2, then I want to get Red Star European football before I move on. stevelcfc2011
2024/25 End of Season Revie & Final 9 Games With only 9 games left it was always gonna be tough but after a few games of rubbish draws we have actually played very well and a nice little run of wins. We did lose our final game but that was our only defeat. We jumped a few places which was nice. I am quietly confident we can definitely push the top 3 next season. Most of the players performed pretty well and I won't look to change too much for next season. Maybe sign a DM as I like to play 4141 or 41221 and replace the 2 outgoing loanees. We do have some good players in the reserves who I may look to promote and sell a few of the underperforming or unhappy players. Here are the end of season reviews screens: So a nice end of season run and it looks good, hopefully we get some decent budgets and we can make a few small improvements to the squad. See you at the end of pre-season
stevelcfc2011
2025/26 Pre-Season (Red Star FC - France) I didn't want to make too many changes to the squad but due to things out of my control (players wanting to leave and refusing to sign new contracts) I had to make a few signings and do a bit of rejigging! Outs A lot of outs and as you can see a few fees as well. Cros, Thales, Sahin, Berger and Dagba all asked to leave as they wanted to win trophies, I didn't want them lowering the morale so happily let them go. The others weren't required and were just taking up wages. Ins Only 6 and 3 of those were loans, I'm was quite happy with what I had left after all the outs but needed to bolster the ranks a bit more and fill some gaps. Click the players name below for their profile. Khaled Boudib Serge Ngome Stanislas Robert Andre Hansen Sandro Pinheiro Fiston Otieno Squad Quite a few changes but overall it looks good, we have good cover in all positions. Pre-Season Friendlies I played mainly easy friendlies with a little 2 game tour of England. As you can see it went very very well! Odds/Expectations 6th is about right but I fully expect us to be challenging at that end of the table and hopefully pushing the automatic places. The boards expectations are a little lower which is nice and helpful. So let's hope we get off to a good start, wish me luck!
Harpoon76
Slightly off-topic, but I'd like to thank the OP for this thread - the "stinker" question for the pub-quiz in the Saturday Telegraph this weekend asked which country Manchester 62 play in. Did I look clever or what, though I'd never heard of them before reading this thread last week!
noikeee
Rough end with Palencia, a tiny bit more luck and you'd have stayed up. In France, I'm a bit surprised expectations are low with a tycoon. That's why I usually hate managing tycoon teams, expectations tend to be huge which detracts from the fun of spending the money. Doesn't seem like that applies to you. Judging by the players you shown, I definitely agree you've got the squad to go up already. You had a much weaker side with Palencia and still managed to get promoted to a tougher league.

stevelcfc2011
August/September 2025 A busy few months but a really good, solid start. stevelcfc2011
October/November 2025 The decent start continues even though we lost out first league game. The gap has shrunk by a point but we are still looking good.
stevelcfc2011
December 2025/January 2026 Sorry for the delay in updates guys, been really ill the past few days that I couldn't even play FM, but I'm back and hoping to get a few games played today and over the next few days. Form has dipped a bit and defensively we don't look as good. Only 2 wins in the League from 6 games but only 1 defeat. Still top but only just! Need to start winning some games now and trying to increase that gap.
stevelcfc2011
February/March 2026 Another decent few months but those 2 defeats has closed the gap at the top. 7 games to go, promotion is close but we need to keep up the form or the chasing pack will be closing in. I also made a new signing right at the end of March, this guy popped up in my inbox and after a bit of scouting realised he looking flipping amazing! Not bad for a free transfer. stevelcfc2011
April/May 2026 + End of Season Review A good run of wins at the start of the month sealed promotion with 4 games to go. The defeat dropped us down to 2nd but 3 draws at the end of the season was enough for us to end up Champions. After promotion was sorted the board gave me their budgets, not massively high especially as we have a tycoon owner but decent enough to strengthen the side a little Here is the playing squad: Here are who I feel were my 2 key players: Here is the end of season review screens: So we are into Ligue 1, next season the plan is to just steer clear of relegation, hopefully we won't be anywhere near going down. A season of stability and then who know where we can go from there. Season | Team | Nation | Position | Notes and Achievements | 2016/17 | Man 62 | Gibraltar | 8th | Took job with 10 games left | 2017/18 | Man 62 | Gibraltar | 3rd | None | 2018/19 | Man 62 | Gibraltar | 1st | CHAMPIONS!! | 2019/20 | Palencia | Spain | Segunda Division B 4th | Promoted via play offs | 2020/21 | Palencia | Spain | La Liga 2 18th | None | 2021/22 | Palencia | Spain | La Lga 2 15th | None | 2022/23 | Palencia | Spain | La Liga 2 6th | Promoted to La Liga via Play offs | 2023/24 | Palencia | Spain | La Liga 18th | Relegated 2024/25 | Red Star | France | Ligue 2 11th | Took over with 9 games to go | 2025/26 | Red Star | France | Ligue 2 1st | Champions and promotion to Ligue 1 |
stevelcfc2011
2026/27 Pre-Season - Red Star FC (France) In's I tried to do as little business as I could. The squad from last year deserved a chance but there were some weak areas that needed addressing Here are the players: (click the player name below for their profile) Issam Kissi - Striker Andreas Moullakis - Centre Back Nacer Ghezzal - Goalkeeper Guilherme - Right Back Djibril Kasse - Central Midfield Alexandre Giorgi - Right Wing I'm really pleased with the signings and the squad looks good now. There were no major out, only one player left for a fee (Winger Mousset for £1.1m), all others were released or their contracts ran out. The squad looks decent, we have cover in all areas and will be trying to employ my 4231 tactic, reverting a 41221 in the tougher games. Pre-Season Friendlies Odd/Expectations So there are 4 of us all on 1000-1, only 2 teams go down so we have a good chance of survival as long we start well and the new players bed into the tactic well. stevelcfc2011
December 2026/January 2027 A busy few months and after a really good start form has collapsed mainly due to our lack of goals all of a sudden. stevelcfc2011
April/May 2026 + End of Season Review We gained a little ground but in the end it wasn't enough to get back in the European spots. A fantastic achievement ending in the top half in our first season but it's tinged with disappointment seeing as how well we started. Look at the gap at the top! There is no way we will be challenging those for a while. I'm going to give it another season here and see if we can win a trophy and if not move, BUT if i job comes up at either PSG or Monaco then I'm going for it, just for one season then move on to my next bordering nation. Here is the squad that partook in our brilliant season: And here are the end of season review screens: Finally some news on me as a manager. I now have my Continental Pro Licence and my rep is at 60%, I must be challenging for bigger and better jobs now but we will see! stevelcfc2011
2027/28 Pre-Season - Red Star FC (France) A squad revamp was needed after last season's capitulation, so there are lots of in's and out's. Out's All fringe players that just didn't perform or play last season. In's The board had given me a tasty £9m budget and we blew it all! Midfield and defence was where the most work was needed, that's where I did most of my business and bought a couple of extras as well. Click the players name below for their profile: Jedrzej Piotrowski Mostafa Jafari Giorgi Guruli Andrea Cosenza Paulo Bernardo Jean Ruiz Daniel Muge Lindani Mngomeni After those signings here is my squad for the new season: Pre-Season Friendlies Odd/Expectations 1000-1 again! I'm sure we can do better than that! The board fully expect us to do better and have set us the rather daunting challenge of mid-table.
noikeee
I know it's always harder to take when you start the season better than you end, but I think you can be very happy with 9th. stevelcfc2011
Hi everybody Well I have some sad news, on Tuesday my laptop had an absolute meltdown and decided to turn off and never turn back on. I've spent the week trying to fix it by means of taking it to my local laptop-fixing-man and as much as they have managed to make my laptop useable again I have lost everything, my hard-drive has wiped itself (thanks for that) and everything has gone. Like a muppet I forgot to activate the steam cloud for this save and have no back-ups so it's over, the save has gone (anyone know where the crying face emoji is??) So FM17 is re-installed and I want to start a new save, I need a new challenge, I'm always one for a journeyman save whether that's the Pentagon Challenge, Alphabet Challenge, etc so I want your thoughts on what new journeyman challenge I should do, your suggestions would be amazing. One thing I don't want to do is add any extra leagues and nations, I will just use the default database Sorry to let you all down!
