2036 European Championships; Scotland/Wales

Well, this was disappointing.  I had high hopes that someone truly exciting would make it to the final, or at a minimum that the manager of an eligible nation would get canned.

Nope.  At least, not yet.

France took home the title, while the Welsh and Swiss each made a run.  All told, though, it was pretty run-of-the-mill.

Don't hesitate to ask if you want to see any player, club or manager info :D

What about the current FIFA World Rankings? That would be great to see all nations around the world on how they progress there while you manage Sweden and the Netherlands!

No problem at all -- nearly 20 years into the save, here's Hakan:

I have absolutely no idea what those 2 holiday days were!  I am genuinely offended  by Brendan liking me so much...the dangers of delegating out your press/tunnel interviews.

Colombia and Uruguay are flying high...although I'm not really sure why.  Mexico was 3 (or so) for a period of time, after beating up on all of the CONCACAF nobodies for a few years, at a time when the US was struggling mightily.

The only thing I got out of that Euros is that Ireland got out the group! I'm sure I asked this before, but what's the squad look like and is there any stand out players?

Also were many of your players involved?

Here is the Irish national team overview, along with screenshots of their "top" players (including Eddie Browne, who moved on to Liverpool after Fiorentina), and the League of Ireland "past winners" page.

I only had 4-5 current players at the Euros -- no one came back overtired, so it was kind of a bust it seems.

Damnit Cork City! Only 3 titles since this save started. Thanks for the manager stats and attributes.

Fingers are crossed for a favorable draw, as a 1st seed.  Messi pulling the balls out of the hopper tonight...whilst standing on 3 stacked phone books.  Honestly.

If you don't mind me asking, ho have Liverpool done over the course of your save? I saw that they were awful when you were at Leeds but other than that, have they done anything of note?

Thanks, man. Glad you've enjoyed it thus far :D

I'm at the office for a few more hours, but will put up some screenshots when I get home tonight!

Here we go...they've struggled mightily in the league, but have collected a few trophies here and there, and an odd collection of managers (Klopp was fired in November 2017).  Still playing at Anfield...ouch.

Speaking of managers, Bobby Manc could be going to Leicester in real life. Disgrace what happened to Ranieri though.

He was good enough for them when they expected a relegation scrap...won them the title...now back in a relegation scrap but he's not good enough.  Typical FM, that.  Punished for exceeding expectations!

---

In-game, Ranieri stayed at Leicester for a decade but didn't win another title, of any kind.  They haven't finished higher than 7th since 2015/16, but were FA Cup runners-up twice (2020 and 2025), and won the League Cup in 2029 (finishing as runners-up in 2017 & 2018).

He was the one likeable thing about that club, really.

It's such a shame. He should've at least been given time to see how far he could get them in the Champions League. At the very, very least.

Claudio Ranieri should have given the credit for winning his first championship in Premier League as well as to the FA Cup twice.

Meanwhile, I love to see FC Barcelona getting multiple championships at the same time. How's they are doing too with their good players and accolades? I might missed Lionel Messi, the man who gets his luck happened along the Argentinians.

They blew it on the final weekend with a 3-1 loss at 11th place GAIS.

Ouch.

Wow I didn't see that coming. Rise and fall of Malmo? At least they still qualified for the Champions League.

It had to happen sooner or later, but their dominance domestically has been incredible. Almost 20 years of complete control! Financially, no one can compete with them at this point.

AS Saint-Étienne

December 2036 Mini-Update

For ****'s sake, gentlemen.  Don't ruin this.  Don't you ****ing dare.

Top of Ligue 1, and scraping through when we needed it in the Champions League.  We **** the bed against Chelsea, twice.  And tried to blow it against Valencia at home.  But, nevertheless, we're through and drew the best possible opponent for the knockout rounds -- Ajax.  Nothing else matters, except those 180 minutes.

The Dutch aren't anything to be afraid of.  Provided we keep our heads on straight.

Maybe it's the majesty of Les Verts in full flight this year.  Maybe it's the chronic lack of sleep.  Or the 15 Red Bulls I've shotgunned this morning.

But, we're coming together.  On the verge of something truly special.  And a kind draw is all we needed.

That, and Hot Tub Thursdays.

Ohhhh, yeah.

a94749b63818d5598b3a041e0fd920a2.png

Flying high in the League, with only a few blips to speak of.  When we're on, we're on.

0f7859a974c8684af83db383376ba087.jpg

Yes, Monaco has been that bad. Simon Kjaer was axed a few weeks ago.

b8373f5ed41121999c7b7a68a523ba81.jpg

In Europe, we genuinely scraped by.  We went into the sixth group match 1 point behind Chelsea, and 1 clear of Valencia (after getting FM'd by Chelsea at home and collapsing in London).  We more than deserved the 2-2 draw, but I'll be damned if we didn't make it hard on ourselves.

Ironically, we then drew the weakest top seed in the knockout rounds.

When I came looking at this thread a few days back (I don't know what kind of speed-reading the guy a few pages ago has done; 4 hours!), I was hoping for an interesting career - I mean someone still going after 30+ pages must be doing something right, right?

Little did I expect a Man Utd fan (check), an FM fan (duh, check) and a WoT fan (check) to boot! And what an incredible career and story! I think I even saw Kvothe in there somewhere, next it will be Locke Lamora!

Thank you for sharing the story with us, you have gained another follower. H is for Hakan, may you always find water and shade.

@Akkarin thanks for reading and commenting, man! I love dropping in those references, all the more so when someone catches the kind of obscure ones :)

I hadn't thought about Locke as a source of a quote, but there have to be a few GREAT ones in there! Although, the one that first comes to mind is Locke getting his head smashed in, for the sole purpose of keeping his assailant busy until Jean can arrive...

Haha good point, though I'm sure you can find a good way to work the Wicked Sisters into this somehow ;) or Bobby Manc as Capa, but it would likey all take a turn for the darker after something like that.

anyway, not to hijack the thread, just to say that it doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated when you do put it in. Keep up the good work.

Hahaha....half of this thread is one thing or another going completely off the rails!  The kind words are very much appreciated :D

Yeah, the Wicked Sisters would make things pretty dark...in Ludwig's hands, naturally.  I'm reading A Commonwealth of Thieves right now...not much inspiration there, unless I steal another Aussie...I came close last summer, but he ended up going to England, if I recall correctly.
