PaulHartman71
85th minute: Sainsbury running clear for Salford. He's got Barnett ahead of him, he's found him, Barnett surely to finish the game... oh and how has he missed that?! He's skied it! That would've put the game beyond any doubt. PaulHartman71
93rd minute: James with the goal-kick for Salford. Surely the referee will blow now... he has! It's over! Salford are on their way to Wembley!
PaulHartman71
Cool to see the attendance got broken even though they've been in League 2 before. Forest Green Rovers beat Portsmouth 5-3 on aggregate in their Semi Final and so we will face them at Wembley. I'd hoped for Portsmouth as Forest Green are the better side, but we will give it our all either way. We haven't beaten Forest Green this season though, with a 2-2 home draw and a 6-3 loss away from home. We did win at Wembley last season though, so hopefully we can continue our good record there. PaulHartman71
I wasn't expecting to be offered a new deal before the Playoff Final, but I guess it makes sense since my contract was running down and they never expected me to make the Playoffs anyway. I've signed a new 1 year deal. I'm still on £700 p/w but this will increase to around £800 p/w if we are promoted. The 50 percent get out clause is still in there. PaulHartman71
We name the same team for the Playoff Final. 38,823 fans are here at Wembley, with around 23,000 Salford locals outnumbering the Forest Green fans. Hopefully we can drown them out on the pitch too.
PaulHartman71
10th minute: Bell dribbling forward for Salford. It's been a quiet game so far, both teams sitting off. Bell passes to Owens ahead of him, he's just outside the box, he's got Sainsbury to his left and oh... Peter Palmer's brought him down! It's not the best tackle but he would argue he had to make it as Sainsbury would surely have been in the clear. The ref's blown for a foul and booked Palmer. He's got to be careful now... It looks like it will be Clackstone to take this. There's 5 men in the wall. The keeper is shouting at them. A decent early chance for Salford this...it's Clackstone to strike it... OHHHHH AND HE'S FIRED IT IN!!!! THE SALFORD FANS ERUPT HERE AT WEMBLEY!!! IT'S SALFORD CITY 1-0 FOREST GREEN ROVERS
PaulHartman71
25th minute: Bell bringing the ball forward once more for Salford. They're looking quite confident at the minute, Forest Green a bit taken aback by that opening goal coming so early. Bell across to Owens, Davis has come deep and is free...it's bell to Davis. He's seen Dodds making a run down the right...it's through to Dodds who has beaten the Forest Green left back... Dodds plays a pass across the box...AND SAINSBURY IS THERE!!! HE'S STRUCK IT PAST THE HELPLESS KEEPER AND THEY'VE DOUBLED THEIR LEAD. IT'S SALFORD CITY 2-0 FOREST GREEN ROVERS
PaulHartman71
30th minute: A corner on the right hand side for Forest Green. It's Hewitt to take it. Hewitt with the ball in to the far post...IT'S SWANN.... OH AND HE'S HIT THE BAR!! SO CLOSE FOR FOREST GREEN!
PaulHartman71
36th minute: A free kick for Forest Green on the right side of the box. Hewitt to take this. He puts the ball in the box and Bullock heads it clear...but it's fallen straight to SWANN WHO STRIKES IT....OH AND HE'S PUT THAT WELL WIDE. THAT WAS AN ABSOLUTE SITTER!
PaulHartman71
45th minute: The referee has blown his whistle. It's half time and Salford and Adam Hart will be very happy with that. They're 2-0 up at half time and whilst Forest Green have had chances, they don't look like taking them at the moment.
PaulHartman71
51st minute: Free kick for Salford in the Forest Green half. It's not really from shooting distance but Clackstone stands over it. He plays a long ball to Davis but its intercepted by Palmer. Palmer passes it to Sexton, Sexton hits a long ball up field to Hewitt... if he runs onto this he could be through... he's got Swann running to his left...Swann gets it and runs towards the byline as Hewitt runs into the box...Swann crosses it in and HEWITT...HAS SCORED!!! THEY'VE GOT A GOAL BACK. IT'S SALFORD CITY 2-1 FOREST GREEN ROVERS AND IT'S GAME ON AT WEMBLEY!
PaulHartman71
61st minute: Dodds dribbling down the right once more for Salford. He finds Davis on the overlap...Davis puts the ball into the box....SAINSBURY IS THERE...BUT THE KEEPER SAVES IT! A huge save from Forest Green's keeper to keep them in this one.
PaulHartman71
73rd minute: Clackstone on the left wing driving down into the Forest Green half. He passes to Barnett in the middle, Barnett up towards Davis, Davis looks to pass back to Barnett...he's fouled there by Palmer. The referee's blown for a free kick...and Palmer is protesting here but is the referee going for his pocket?!? Palmer's already been booked!! Oh and he's produced another yellow and a red! PALMER IS OFF!! FOREST GREEN ARE DOWN TO 10 MEN AND THEY ARE NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT. That's a huge blow to Forest Green's hopes of getting back into this match and gaining promotion!
PaulHartman71
74th minute: Clackstone to strike the resulting free-kick for Salford. He might go for another shot on goal here. IT'S CLACKSTONE....OH AND THE KEEPER HAS TO PUSH IT WIDE FOR A CORNER!! A GREAT SAVE!! Barnett to take the corner for Salford. Barnett into the box... oh and it's poor it barely beats the first man Byrne who desperately heads it back out but he can only head it back in Barnett's direction to his frustration. Barnett sees holt on the edge of the box and picks him out.... Holt as Dunkley behind him to his left, he finds him... but he's lost the ball as Byrne's come sliding in from behind. The ref has blown for a foul. That was the tackle of a frustrated man. Wait a minute. The referee is running over to Byrne and OH MY WORD!! HE'S GIVEN HIM A STRAIGHT RED!! THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!! BYRNE CAN'T BELIEVE IT. HIS TEAM-MATES CAN'T BELIEVE IT. THE SALFORD PLAYERS CAN'T BELIEVE IT. IN THE SPACE OF JUST 3 MINUTES FOREST GREEN HAVE GONE DOWN TO 9 MEN!!! Surely there's no way back for them now as the Salford fans celebrate like they've just scored a goal!
PaulHartman71
87th minute: Arnold picks up the ball in his own penalty box for Forest Green. Not much time left for them here. He's hit a long ball up to Maher by the half way line. Maher's scored 35 goals this season but he hasn't managed one in the all important game that will define their season. He's got 3 Salford defenders to get past. Maher uses his pace to get past a tired Brown... he's running towards the box, Bullock will have to come over to cover... oh and Maher skips past him... Holt's still back but I'm not sure he'll get to Maher BEFORE HE SHOOTS....OHHHH AND WHAT A SAVE THAT IS FROM RYAN JAMES! THAT MIGHT BE THE SAVE THAT CONFIRMS SALFORD'S PROMOTION. He's prevented a 9 man Forest Green from producing a counter attack goal against all odds.
PaulHartman71
93rd minute: Forest Green still trying but I think that might be it....IT IS IT! mrdanbartlett
GET IN!! Dramatic final there, great read. Well done, so glad you've gone straight back to league 2 after the Yeovil job, how did they do this year out of interest? Fantastic season anyway, well done. Many players contracts up? I wonder if you can get a few new faces in, I managed Salford in a previous save and they seemed to have good enough budgets to get promoted through the leagues, obv it might have changed by 2040! PaulHartman71
We should have a big enough budget to get in quite a few decent players on frees and some good loans. Unfortunately I don't think we'll have the money to buy in actual players for fees as the club has quite a lot of debt, which looks like it came after they got relegated from League 2 last time. Yeovil narrowly missed out on the Playoffs finishing in 8th place this year, the season before they came 18th. I look forward to some interesting games with them next year and hope we can get one (or two) over on them!
mrdanbartlett
Yeah I never spend out on fee's until maybe the Championship, even then it's small fee's until you get to the Prem, I find there are always tons of great out of contract/free players knocking around. I have the good ones lined up on a shortlist and then see who I can get as soon as they get released.

PaulHartman71
Season 25: Salford City Squad A really successful season. I thought we had an outside chance of making the Playoffs but didn't think we could actually go up, so to manage it is a really cool thing to have happened. We possibly could have done with another season of gradual building to have a squad/structure in place for League 2, but we'll make a crack of staying up next season either way. Luke Davis was our top scorer, he got 33 goals and 14 assists in 53 games and was a big part of us going up - it's a shame he's so insistent on not signing a new deal, as he deserves a crack at League 2 football, but perhaps he thinks he can get a better deal elsewhere. Jon Jo Dodds, Steve Clackstone and Josh Sainsbury all had good seasons too, all 3 of those were loan signings though, so we are kind of in a position where our 4 best players won't be with us next season - but I'm sure we can pick up decent ones in the summer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Season Club Division Position Achievements/Other --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2016/17 Ipswich Wanderers Eastern Counties Premier League 8th Eastern Counties League Cup winners 2017/18 Ipswich Wanderers Eastern Counties Premier League 11th Left in November --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2017/18 Coventry Sphinx Midland Football Premier League 13th N/A 2018/19 Coventry Sphinx Midland Football Premier League 10th Left in December -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2018/19 Carlton Town United Counties Premier League 8th United Counties League Cup runners-up. PaulHartman71
Chelsea won the Premier League over Man United on goal difference in the end, with Didier Deschamps' Blues beating 3rd place Man City away on the last day to do it. Weinzeri's United did win the Champions League though, beating Simeone's Atletico Madrid in the final, with this victory putting Weinzeri very close to over-taking Sir Alex Ferguson in the Worldwide Hall of Fame. Arsenal finished 4th but only after they sacked Pep Guardiola mid-season and brought in Pepjin Lijnders. A good year for the South Coast as Southampton and Bournemouth came 5th and 6th. Nothing too exciting or out of the ordinary happening further down the Pyramid, although it was a sad day for Blackpool fans as their side were relegated from the Football League. PaulHartman71
A lot of changes in personnel this summer. The most notable departure being top scorer Luke Davis who we could not convince to stay unfortunately. He's been replaced by Dale Howells and Luke Burrows, with the latter on loan from Swansea looking like he may score a fair few goals this season. The other notable signings are Josh Sampson on loan from Newport County and Wesley McKnight. This season will also see my debut in the League Cup and the Checkatrade Trophy. I'm naturally more excited about being in the League Cup, where we have been drawn against recently relegated League 1 side Birmingham City. I'm hoping to give a good account of ourselves and to have an exciting game.

PaulHartman71
13th minute: Ortega pressing forward for The Blues. He's got Jukes ahead of him moving towards the box. It's Jukes now with the ball, Salford's defence are sitting off from him, this could be dangerous, Jukes is into the box and HAS A SHOT...it's a really poor effort and an easy save for James in goal. PaulHartman71
29th minute: Goni dribbling down the left flank for Birmingham, a nice bit of skill there and he pass to Ortega in the middle, Ortega's gonna keep going here and aim for THE TOP CORNER...OH AND JAMES DOES VERY WELL TO SAVE THAT AND PUSH IT WIDE! PaulHartman71
91st minute: Not much time left for Birmingham to get a goal back. PaulHartman71
120th minute: It's all over! The referee blows his whistle and Salford gave a good account of themselves but the superior team's class eventually showed. What a gutting game ffs The late goals in normal time were bad enough, I thought we'd get battered in extra-time as the players were tired, but when Burrows got his hat-trick I thought for sure we'd at least take it to penalties. Birmingham were just far too strong in the end.

PaulHartman71
August An interesting start to League 2 life. It was great to win against Burton on the opening day, but following the mid-week League Cup loss to Birmingham we got absolutely destroyed at Manfield. It really was a woeful performance and perhaps the early win and the open game with Birmingham made me think we could be more adventurous in League 2 than we should be, so from then on I tweaked the tactic to be more counter-attack based and not to let teams come at us too much. It improved things a bit as we got a good draw against Shrewsbury and a nice 1-0 away win against Barrow, we took the lead against Crawley but their attacking players had a lot of pace and we got done on the counter a lot which sadly meant we lost 4-2. Overall though with 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses we're not doing too badly so far.
