86th minute: Wednesday are breaking late on. Can they find an equaliser? Sloma running down the left flank, he's got Scholl in the middle, it's Scholl now who can have a shot from distance or try to find Korczowski ahead of him... IT'S INTO KORCZOWSKIIIIII... but he just can't keep it down! Was that the chance?!

91st minute: Not long left on the clock for Wednesday to find a goal. Millar has it at the back for Hull, he passes it back to Littlefair in goal... he hits it up the pitch but it's only as far as Korczowski... he plays a nice ball forward for O'Sullivan... O'Sullivan can pick out Andreas as ahead of him...it's ANDREAS PAPOUTSOGIANNOPOLOUS...GOAAAAAAAAL!!!! The Greek striker has put his side level right at the death! It's HULL CITY 1-1 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

We name an unchanged side for our home match with Hull.

Adam Hart bemoaned the Arctic Monkeys as a bad luck charm after their music failed to inspire Wednesday to a Playoff win last season, so tonight the team come out to music from another one of Sheffield's famous sons:

13th minute: Hull have looked the better side in the opening 10 minutes. Joe Cooper smashes a ball upfield into the Wednesday half, he finds Richard Pali who has Paolo Mauri ahead of him...he's found Mauri who's making his way into the box... MAURIIII.... big save from Frimpong to keep it out!

50th minute: Frode Strom standing over a free kick for Hull. Will he strike this...HE WILL! AND FRODE STROM HAS GIVEN THE AWAY TEAM THE LEAD! A DISASTROUS START TO THE HALF FOR WEDNESDAY, because it's SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 0-1 (1-2) HULL CITY

52nd minute: Papoutsogiannopoulous wiht the ball on the half way line, he's got Korzcowski running alongside him, he finds him, the German striker now advances on the Hull goal, but he's taken a touch and is now driving down the right side of the box, he could get a low cross in here... he hits it across goal... SLOMA IS THERE!!! WEDNESDAY ARE LEVEL! A fine move makes it SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 1-1 (2-2) HULL CITY

77th minute: Sloma on the ball for Wednesday. He's on the far left wing in the middle of the pitch. Ohhh and he's hit a lovely weighted ball right down the flank to Kersten on the overlap... Kersten with plenty of space to run into the byline and put a ball into the box... AND KORCZOWSKI IS THERE!!! SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY TAKE THE LEAD AND THEY'VE GOT ONE FOOT AT WEMBLEY!!! SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 2-1 (3-2) HULL CITY

12th minute: Karner with a free kick for Wednesday. He's looking to get a cross into the box... it goes into the box, there's a scuffle, the keeper is on the floor, the referee's blown his whistle is that a free kick for West- NO! He's given a penalty!! Ohh incredible scenes here, because Sheffield Wednesday have a golden chance to take an early lead!

Mario Korzwoski steps up to take this one. He's already the top scorer in the Championship this season, can he add another one here, that would put his side in with a great chance of playing in the Premier League next season... OHHHHH AND IT'S GONE PAST THE KEEPER BUT INSTEAD OF FLYING INTO THE TOP CORNER ITS HIT THE UPRIGHT AND COME BACK OUT!!! A huge miss from Korczowski, and will he and his team be rueing that miss later tonight?!

35th minute: Wednesday are on the move. Piotr Sloma sprinting down that left side where he's so dangerous, he's got a few men in the middle, it's Sloma into the box...KARNER ON THE END OF IT... but he's denied by a stong tackle by Towers in defence...and Grant Kelly smashes it clear and away from danger.

41st minute: A corner for West Brom. It's taken quickly by Rob Camm who passes to Sergio Alves, Alves hits it from a crazy angle... Frimpong saves it but Cozzolino is there for the rebound...oh and it somehow avoids going into the net! Great work from defence and goalkeeper there.

75th minute: West Brom have a free kick. It's taken by Manuel Pons, it drifts towards the goal but Frimpong comes out to punch it clear...but it falls to AITOR IRIBARRENNNNNNNN....ohhhh and how has that not gone in?! It was almost an open goal!! A huge miss in this game!

79th minute: Esters with the ball in the middle of the pitch for Wednesday, he hits it forward to Papoutsogiannopoulous who is just outside the box... the Greek plays it out wide left to Sloma... Sloma back to Papoutsogiannopoulous who is through on goal...but Immonen takes him out and wins the ball brilliantly but the ball slides across the box and falls to MARIO KORCZOWSKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!! THE CHAMPIONSHIP'S TOP SCORER HAS COME UP WITH THE GOODS AND AS THINGS STAND, ADAM HART'S SIDE WILL BE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE NEXT SEASON! It's West Bromwich Albion 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday

GET IN!! Chuffed for you, done it the hard way.

What are the budgets for next year?  I find sometimes the board are tight in the summer, then release a bunch more money in Jan once the bank balance has grown, ie they don't fully take into account the money that will flow in over the year.

Weds defo are a sleeping giant and could be a top 6 side in 5 years.

Season 38: Sheffield Wednesday

5e759c7325986d658bd296acc6ca8195.png

Absolutely delighted to have gone up this year! It's only taken 1,926 games to get there! :D

Squad

Korczowski the stand out player with 29 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, he won the Championship Golden Boot and Top Scorer. He somehow didn't have the most difficult name to say in the team, with his strike partner, Andreas Papoutsogiannopoulous ending the campaign with 19 goals and 19 assists. Leon Esters also had a good season in midfield.

Marcus Llorente had a fantastic first season at Man United, as he won the Premier League. Chelsea ended up 4th but they sacked Vedran Corluka mid-season despite back to back Champions League wins, they replaced him with Bayern's Andre Ayew and it was actually Corluka who replaced Ayew at Bayern. Hugo Lloris got sacked by Real Madrid a few seasons back, but he got the last laugh as his PSG side beat them in the Champions League final this season.

Maidenhead's maiden season in the Football League ended in disappointment as they finished rock bottom and went back down to the Conference. The Conference did see some interesting stuff though. Bideford finally managed to win promotion to League 2 after their tycoon-induced rise had mellowed off with 4 years of Conference limbo. They only did it through the Playoffs though, as the surprise package and winners were actually Cove F.C, who have now won 6 straight promotions ffs :D

I've got no idea how they've managed this as there's no hint of a Tycoon, they've even had the same manager the whole time, so fair play to that man:

He's only 38 and will get to manage in League 2 next year :D

Was he a player, and if so, at what level?

He came through at Burnley but was released before playing a single game, ultimately spending his career in the 7th tier for the likes of Crook, Alfreton and Clitheroe. Seems he retired at 33 and got a job for 10th tier Lyndney Town before getting the Cove job. Tbf I have noticed that regen players tend to get managerial jobs in their early 30's at round 8th-10th tier level, as I got a news item about my Goalkeeper at Port Talbot, Lewis Banks, getting sacked by some 9th tier club when he was 35.

We haven't had the hardest of starts to life in the Premier League, but either way, having spent what we spent this summer, if you'd told me we'd end our first 3 games with 7 points I'd have ripped your hands off :D Fantastic stuff even if we have lost Korcowski to a long term injury now.

We made short work of Exeter in the 3rd round, with David Brown grabbing a hat-trick.

A tough trip to the Olympic Stadium saw us lose 2-0 and I thought that was us back down to reality, but since then we've got two hard fought victories against QPR and Norwich to keep our good start alive.

If the season could end now please that would be lovely...
