It took penalties, but we've made the Quarter Final of the League Cup by beating Norwich.

Our good start in the league carries on, with a decent point at home to Man City, before Hornero came off the bench at Villa to help us come from behind and win. The biggest result of the month though was beating Arsenal 2-0, which was a real a triumph and a fantastic result.

Top of the league :D  :brock:

My contract was expiring at the end of the season so it made sense for the board to try and sort out a new one, especially with our good form. I was more than happy to sign on as we look like a decent project at the minute, certainly more than possibly taking over a slightly bigger club flirting with relegation who would probably have a lot of players on huge money etc.

It will last for 3 years and I've got a fairly big wage rise. 50 percent clause still included and the money isn't big enough to put off one of the big boys.

November

The month started with two very impressive away wins at Huddersfield Town and Tottenham. We then lost to Danny Welbeck's Wolves, but recovered to steal a point at the Sir Bobby Charlton Stadium, which was really good.

We end November still top of the league...

This is insane, amazing season!! well done, especially given the lack of transfer funds.  Massive well done!

How big the Utd's new stadium?

It's 128, 557. They seem to average around 108,000, which is by far the highest in the league:

Arsenal's new ground was built 15 years ago and they could probably do with an expansion, with Man City, Chelsea, Sunderland, West Ham, Liverpool, Newcastle and Villa all in a decent position to expand if they wanted to or had the funds to do so. Man City's 81,250 was only built 7 years ago so seems unlikely for them, whilst Chelsea are actually just in an expanded Stamford Bridge so they could possibly be likely for a new ground at some point in the near future.

A David Brown brace puts us into the Semi Final of the League Cup.

A difficult winter period certainly sees the end of our amazing start to the season, with this month seeing 5 losses in 6 games, with the only positive being a late winner at home to sink Liverpool.

We've certainly been taken back down to reality with this month of losses, but we're still in a very good position for a newly promoted side at the halfway mark, especially with the money we did (or didn't) spend this summer.

We've got just over £23M in the bank. There are no plans for the board to give me any of this as a transfer/wage budget, although I do have around £3M or so which I'm only really spending on another goalkeeper, because our first choice, Frimpong, will play in the African Nations. We're making around £5/6M a month as it stands though, so even though I don't think the AI are actually thinking like that, if they're banking on us being safe with this squad as it is, we will probably have like £50M in the bank at the end of the season before we even take into account prize money and TV money/sponsorship deals etc over the summer. So if we stay up we could well have a pretty decent budget next season, although there is also the possibility they spend it all on a stadium expansion or build a new one maybe.

He might say he only gained a little, but Hornero has actually been a huge help to Adam as he's managed to help shoot up his Determination from 3 to 8! I've now got Mario Diaz tutoring him for a month or so before he turns 17 and can be offered out on loan to the lower league sides.

January

They didn't announce a big budget unfortunately so we'll have to wait until the summer to add to the squad. Perhaps for the best as there is probably more value in that market than January's.

Tyler O'Sullivan left for Coventry, he was a long term emergency back-up player, so good to be finally rid of him I guess. Vaclav Novotny also left, he was a good CB but on really big wages and wasn't playing much, Besikas have him on loan until the end of the season with a mandatory buy clause of £7.5M which will be a boost in the summer too.

Rudden is the only player to join. He's a 29 year old Scottish keeper who seems to have been Man City's backup for the last few years, he will be our one now, primarily just for January whilst Frimpong is away at the African Nations.

A 3-2 win in the first leg of the League Cup put us into a decent position going into the return leg at Leicester...

They were too strong in the end though. It would've been great to make the final but I'm still pleased with what has been a pretty good run.

We were never really in the game with Chelsea, which is a shame, but we have to move on and focus on the league now.

Another pretty tough month which saw 4 losses and 1 solitary win against Sunderland.

We have got 33 points though and if we can hit that magic 40 point mark we should stay up. Korczowski is back from his leg break next week so that's at least one positive coming out of the new year, as we have missed him since he broke his leg in August.

A proud day for us all.

I put Matt on the loan market and he attracted a lot of interest from 9th tier sides, with 14 clubs making bids for him. In the end he decided to join Coventry Corpsewood, who currently sit in 19th place in the Midland Football Premier League. I've got a scout to keep giving me match reports on him, so I hope he can have a successful couple of months playing first team football.

4 points on the board this month, with a solid 3-1 win over Norwich and a 1-1 draw at home to Norwich. We did get dicked a bit by Arsenal, but it was 4-3 when Brown scores his 2nd, it was only because we lost a man through injury that meant we had 10 men for the last 10 minutes and we got punished for it.

Korczwoski suffered a set back as he pulled his hamstring a bit in training, just days before he was back to full fitness. He will hopefully be back at some point in March, as it would be good for him to get back into the team before the season ends.

We're in a solid position with 10 games to go. Reading are in 18th and on 26 points too, so technically there is an 11 point gap with a fair few sides in between us too. We're not at that magic 40 point mark just yet though.

March

A pretty decent month by our recent standards, with 4 points from 9 which could prove vital in our bid to stay up. It also helps push Spurs closer to relegation which is always nice.

We've hit the magic 40 point mark and you'd think we'd be safe at this point.

A tough run of fixtures, but again I'm pleased to have got 4 points from this month.

With 3 games to go we are in 11th place, it would be great to hold onto that or even take over Fulham to get 10th as there's a fair amount of prize money up for grabs between each spot.

A fantastic late flurry saw us win all 3 of our last 3, with loanee striker David Brown clearly looking to end his Wednesday career with a bang. Our win against Reading actually sent them down in the end.

We finish 10th which is a fantastic achievement in our first season. I'm not sure if I'll be able to match it next season as we did have a really really good start this year, but we'll have to give it a go. Man City ended up winning their first title for 15 years, with West Ham coming very very close to winning their first ever one.

Man City also won the Champions League, as they beat Barcelona in the final. They've done well to come back and be a real force in England and Europe, as for over a decade they were not much more than a 4th place side at best. Cove and Bideford managed to survive their first seasons in League 2. Nothing too exciting happened elsewhere in the Pyramid.

Vedran Corluka retired after a highly decorated managerial career that saw him reach 4th in the Overall Hall of Fame:

It is now just Neymar, Marcos Llorente, Hugo Lloris and Neymar who are still active members of the HOF. Neymar is 63 and now at Man United, Llorente is 60 and has taken over from Corluka at Bayern, Lloris is 68 and at PSG and finally Hulk is 69 and at Juventus.

Matt didn't get off to the best of starts in his brief spell at Coventry Corpsewood. He scored just 1 goal in 10 appearances, with his side ultimately getting relegated on the last day, despite being 10 points clear of the drop when he first joined them...

The new software makes it quite hard to copy and paste a post with links without getting the ugly pasted look. I've quoted it instead of having to copy and paste it as plain text and having to re enter all the links every time as I cba to do that.

Season 39: Sheffield Wednesday

I would've ripped your hands off for that kind of season at the start of the year, so yes I'm very pleased with how things have gone in my debut PL campaign.

Squad

David Brown was very good especially for a 19 year old, he'll be a real loss next season and a real credit to Man United if they keep him. 26 goals and 6 assists in 41 games for us in the end. Lester Charlery was very good at CB and he's an important part of our spine. Nazo on loan from Chelsea was very good too, as was central midfielder Leon Esters

Fantastic season, well done!!

What is the budget looking like for next season?

Can't wait to see your transfer dealings, defo look abroad for some good players and more sensible prices.

Strong!!   Should be able to get half a new team of excellent signings for that.  Im sure you know this but try and buy players we re-sale potential, so you can keep improving the squad, keep an eye out for unhappy players via the search too.

Weds can DEFO be a CL side in the future so you have the foundations now for improving them no end, would be lovely to see you wind up in the Europa league in the next 2 seasons.

I planned to keep Adam until around October/November with Hornero tutoring him to get his Determination up even more, but he's already had a lot of loan interest from 9th tier sides, so I've let him go off to Blyth Spartans of the Northern League Division 1 for an initial 5 month loan spell. I hope he can do better there than he did in Coventry.

This summer saw a fair amount of outs as well as ins. I didn't particularly want to sell any of Lester Charlery, Leon Esters or Michael Karner, but bigger clubs came in and unsettled them (Karner) or met their release clauses (Charlery and Esters) so off they went. I try not to put release clauses in contracts, but it was the only way to initially get Charlery and Esters to sign reasonable contracts. Novotny left after Besiktas paid his mandatory end of loan fee, with right back Remi De Freitas leaving for Doncaster, whilst back up player Achim Scholl left for West Brom. This totted up £57M in fees for us.

A hell of a lot of ins and a hell of a lot of money spent - £80M in total!

Luis Dupont was the first player to join us, with the 24 year old Belgian CB becoming both the club's and my record signing in the process. I wanted a new striker to get us goals and I'm hoping that Andy Kilday can do just that, the 23 year old from Celtic's youth academy looks like he could be a decent buy for £6M. Bart van Gastel is a versatile young winger signed from Heerenveen to play on the right side of our midfield. Elias is one of many promising and good value players from the Brazilian league, but the big difference with him is that he's part German, which meant we could easily get a work permit for him because, well, we didn't need to get a work permit. Nabil Messadi is an Algerian international who has spent his entire career at AS Saint Ettiene, he now joins us to be our new first choice keeper. Alexis Vega is a fairly versatile midfield player who will come in handy over the course of the season.

Ian Hepworth is a young winger signed from Man United as they had no use for him, we do on our left wing and he seems a good price at £5.5M especially given the benefits of him being HG. Davide Marinaccio is another striker, with the Italian coming from the Turkish Super League for £6.5M - I think Kilday will score more than him, but hopefully he can help him out and provide assists to him too. Siphesihle Dlamin is the oldest player signed at 30 and perhaps the biggest gamble, but he is an experienced Premier League defender and I'm hoping that he can provide us with experience for the 3 years I have signed him to.

Will Freeman and Joe Ross were both signed as squad members for depth and to get our HG levels up, of course £8.5M seems a lot for a player to do that, but it's good to have good players on the bench and Ross can play at CB or CM so will come in handy if and when we pick up injuries and suspensions.

We also got in 3 loanees when we ran out of transfer budget, I didn't intend to rely on loan players too much, but when there's players that good on the loan market, it would be silly not to:

Robin Wihlborg and Roy Buijs are young versatile midfielders who join from PSG and Man United respectively, whilst Camilo Carabali is a 27 year old Colombian defender capable of playing any one of the 3 roles at the back.

Meanwhile in Blyth, as we approach the end of August, Matt currently has 3 goals in 6 games for his new team!

August

I put the 2nd string out for our trip to League 1 Hereford and they didn't disappoint, a good 2-0 win with Steve Norman and Hornero among the goals.

Fulham got the best of us on the first day of the season which was disappointing after taking an early lead, but Fulham also put 4 past Man United away from home in the next game, so maybe we didn't do that bad. We bounced back anyway, as we came from behind to get a huge win at Chelsea, then beat Norwich 2-1 at home in our next encounter. We led Leicester for much of our clash with them, but unfortunately they got a late late equaliser to prevent us from winning 3 on the bounce.

Overall though, another pretty solid start to the Premier League season. I hope we can keep it up.

Some solid premier league signings there, should give you a great base.

I'd personally now be going hard on the scouting looking to buy players aged 18-21 who will develop into top players and improve the XI.  I think you'll be at Weds for a few years now - if you can turn them into a top 6 side then a bigger club who have slipped down the league might come calling, a Liverpool or such.

This save is excellent, and just got better with the son in it, great you are tracking his career - he can defo be the new Adam Hart in the FM18 save.

We took Liverpool to extra-time thanks to a late late equaliser from Hornero, but sadly they put 1 past us in extra-time to knock us out anyway.

I can't complain with our league form at all though, with 7 points from 9 in what was a very tough set of fixtures this month.

October

Another solid month of results, with a loss to what is a very good West Ham side being fairly acceptable even at home being the only poor result. West Brom put in a very good showing against us but Andy Kilday was on hand to get a brace to make sure we got a point, he scored 2 against Sunderland later in the month to secure all 3 points. We also put 4 past Huddersfield in a fairly convincing display.

"Actually I have managed in the Champions League"

"You have? How?"

"Well I won the Welsh League a few times with Port Talbot"

"The Welsh League?! ****ing hell. Adam, sweet Adam. Why on earth would you accept a job offer to join the Welsh League for god sake?"

"Well I had to. They offered me the job. I had to take it didn't I?"

"Why did you have to take it?"

"Well you told me, before you died, that I should accept every job offer I ever get"

"What?! I never told you that?"

"Yeah you did? You said never turn down opportunities like you did"

"Well no, I meant like, I turned down Real Madrid over 10 times throughout my career. I meant like that, not take every single job offer you ever get"

"Oh"

This bit made me laugh out loud.

Poor Adam, thought he was carrying out his Dad's final wish to the letter, then the penny drops he didn't actually mean literally accept EVERY job that comes your way!

I've loved reading through this story though. Inspiring stuff!

December

A relatively decent December, which saw 3 good wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. The highlight of the month for sure was the fantastic 4-1 defeat of Man United, a loss for them that was the final straw, as it actually ended up getting Neymar the sack. This means that after almost 40 years into the save, for the first time, a regen manager is in charge of Man United now.

835a81b8bd0364541d5907fc0559d50c.png

We're still in the top half after Christmas which I'm happy with, especially considering we still only have the 19th highest wage budget in the entire league.

Matt has returned from his loan spell at Blyth Spartans. He ended up with 8 goals and 1 assist in the 27 games he played for them in the 9th tier. They did actually try to renew his deal, but he rejected them!

I've offered him out on loan again and he's now attracting interest from a few 8th tier clubs, with Nostell Miners Welfare, Oxford City Nomads, Quorn and Thornaby all interested in his services.

The start of the January window also sees some deals completed. First of all our outgoings:

1ff4932290e5099b162a6c3028bb6972.png

The most notable of these is Joe Ross leaving for Newcastle at a fee of £15M. We only just signed him for £8.5M in the summer, but he was very unhappy at being a rotation player (despite having that agreed in his contract) and he demanded to leave in early December. Thankfully Newcastle came in with a good offer which sees us make a profit (not a massive one after he picks up his 15 percent sell on fee etc, but still a decent one) and happily move him on. We also got rid of 3 backup players, with Mike Kersten, Papoutsogiannapoulous and Jamie Sanders all leaving for a combined fee of just over £2M.

 671f440dba826556726973d07b9123a1.png

Bryan Ruff joins as a like for like replacement for Joe Ross as a HG player who can be rotation to CM as well as in defence if needed. Ibrahim Adam is a young defender signed as back-up, he's not all that at the moment but he's got good potential and is very versatile so could come in handy, if not we can probably sell him on at profit anyway at some point. Leopold Behrenbeck rejoins us after leaving for just under £4M 2 years ago, he comes in to be a back up LB, he also has the benefit of counting as HG. Finally, Ethan Verdier is added to our striker options, with the 24 year old making sure we now have 3 strikers who are all pretty decent at this level, as Korcowski is injury prone and Hornero probably shouldn't still be getting games for us as a mid-table Prem side.

January

Matt ended up going on loan to Thornaby.

fc2909d36da5dbf7bb6c70c351c3f314.png

We also sold 3rd choice CB, Ricardo Cunha, for £14M after he wanted to leave and QPR came in for him. We made a pretty decent profit on him even after him and his previous club took their 10/15 percent cuts of the deal.

39e258c266e6938616dab71181d3e8f8.png

We replaced him with Desley Grot who is a 22 year old CB from Ajax. He's a decent player with a bit of potential, will probably never be a really good PL CB but we don't need him to for him to still be a good squad player, will probably be able to make a decent profit on him too.

9af8fda9976609f13bcff17da47775c1.png

A 2-1 win against Championship Burnley puts us through in the FA Cup, with Hornero back on the scoresheet and Verdier scoring his first for the club.

5a7b7ea9dd59b291f39ff1d395895946.png

Not the greatest start to 2056 with just 1 win and 1 draw out of our 5 games, but it was a fairly tough run of games. It was great to beat Chelsea either way though.

7226caa303cf12d97a4376d7f0e7aeed.png

We're bang mid table. If we end up around 10th-12th I think we will have had another pretty good season.

Bit of a strange one but we've managed to shift Korczowski to New York Red Bulls for £4.3M. It's all a bit weird though as his contract expires in the summer and I even offered him out for £2.5M in January and nobody wanted him. Oh well, not gonna complain about getting £4.3M that I wasn't expecting :D

February

We got another Championship side in the 4th Round of the FA Cup. We took an early lead but Forest gave us a hell of a scare, Wihlborg's 88th minute equaliser forced a replay at their place after we threw the lead away.

7294831159ab291dd5e70663f9aa39e2.png

There were far less goals in the return tie, with Wihlborg again on hand to give us a big goal to see us through.

2dc97824e03c886ab22cc53902ca8659.png

Our lucky draws somehow continued as we then got bottom of the Championship, Hartlepool, even away from home they were no match for us, as we won 3-1 quite comfortably.

6fe18188612387d691b44188bd79669c.png

I lost my 2000th game, but I was proud of the effort as we made a real game of it. We followed that up with a 1-0 win against West Brom, before losing a difficult game at West Ham's council house. We ended the month really strongly though, as a Kilday hat-trick helped us along to a 5-1 drubbing of Huddersfield.

We've guaranteed survival at the bare minimum, it would be nice to see how far up the table we could go in the last few months though.
