[Suggestion] Complete revamp with your club's infastructure

Recommended Posts

Currently when playing fm, especially a road to glory, there is almost nothing in the game that deals with the clubs infrastructure. There is currently youth facilities, training facilities and your stadium. That's it, and you can choose to upgrade or in terms of the stadium build a new one, but there is so much more that goes on a a club. There needs to features like upgrading your floodlights in order to reach the minimum requirements for promotion or upgrading the parking lot. Many clubs also buy the land near their stadium to invest in possible revenue streams like restaurants and hotels. I'm obviously just skimming through ideas, but I think I make the point that there is nowhere near enough features that have to do with the clubs infrastructure. We shouldn't just be able to upgrade the stadium, we should be able to renovate it, like installing free wifi, renovating the washrooms and so much more. Even simple ideas like having the option to let concerts be played during the off season and midweek which will bring in revenue but deteriorate the pitch would be greatly appreciated. Like the clubs infrastructure should be a massive part of every save, but its pretty much non-existent which is ridiculously unrealistic.

Another example could be with the youth facilities. Its extremely generic in its current state in the game, all you gotta do is get it to its max level and then your done. There is no difference from a max level youth facility at one club then another. This should change. Once we max out our level, we should be able to invest in it. For example if we invest say 12 million and wait a season and half, we can get our youth facility a star as one of the best in the country for defenders (or anything else like technical players, physically strong players etc), which would attract better defenders to our youth team. Something like this which would obviously need to be improved upon from the example I gave which was just a rough idea off the top of my head would make every club unique even though they've maxed the level of their youth facilities. It just makes the game more dynamic and will make every save different from each which is what we need because fm sort of gets repetitive once you reach a certain point at your save

This could be part of the information for the club, but realistically the manager/head coach doesn't have anything at all to do with this kind of business.

There are already a bunch of features in FM that managers don't have in real life. Managers don't negotiate transfer fees, but the game would be really boring if we weren't given these features so being able to improve our infrastructure isn't that far fetched.

Things like free Wi-Fi, more washrooms better floodlights etc...I have no interest in whatsoever.

However when you are bringing success to a club I wouldn't mind the Board announcing certain things such as developing area around the Stadium for eg. a Hotel or the club generating a few extra £'s buy hosting a Concert during the off-season. I'm not a fan of the idea of having control over those kind of things, but it working like sponsorship deals where you just receive the information in your Inbox that's fine with me.

Those things are all decided by the board. Could be an addition to the board part of the game, but nothing that a manager has to care for.

Personally the thing that interested me most in this was the stuff about youth facilities, for example being able to specialise in certain types of players or players suited to a specific style of football could really make a long-term save more interesting.

Or that they're upgrading the corporate facilities (AFAIK, these are static within the game though they're listed as part of the club's facilities)

They are attached to the stadium, but potentially renovations could be done to boost it a level reflecting those renovations (maybe the lightning is upgraded, or broadband speed increased, etc.). I could see it being capped with stadium size and/or age, like maybe they couldn't go beyond "Basic" for a 50-year-old 3,000-capacity stadium.

I for one be for at the least a visual component of the facilities you have. Something you can see your facilities upgrading visually since it would add a sense of progress, specially for LLM.

One example that use visually your facilities and how they change is Top Eleven. Not saying that SI should copy what they do, but actually making their own version of it.

Is it realistic? No a manager doesn't have that kind of the decision, but in terms of gameplay it can add another layer of fun to the game.

Football Manager, Fifa, and Pes are trading platforms and not clubs, but I often wonder how those three would play football according to their coach (I'm in Australia and Australia have coaches not managers) style.

I like the thought process. Don't think I would want to get into the nitty-gritty details - and like KUBI points out, a lot of that stuff wouldn't be stuff decided by the manager. But the club having "commercial developments" as a potential investment, whether its opening a restaurant / hotel near the stadium, opening a giant club store, etc. And a lot of "extras" at the stadium itself could fall into a "fan experience" rating, that you could request to have improved. These things could connect to the supporting stats that are in the database for each club.

i respect everyone idea and opinion, but the most important which need huge development in the game is (Training) .. it's very basic and i'm sure if it's more detailed, then it would add more real things in head coach life, as well as more fun.

as for those things, it can be (request) development the club center to Generate more many. as usual, it's depends on club cash & board confidence on you to agree or refuse. It's probably part of club demands in some poor clubs, but not very detailed like that.

There are already multiple game modes when you start a new game. One of them could be from the perspective of a manager who shares in the club board's responsibilities.

One of the greatest football management games i've ever played was UEFA Manager 2000 (google a few screenshots of it to see what i'm talking about) and it was pretty much what's being suggested here in terms of developing the stadium and its facilities. It's the number one thing i miss from that game in FM. You could choose what section of the stadium to upgrade or update, and how - with or without a cover, the number of rings, seating quality, etc. The pitch type (artificial or natural) and its drainage and undersoil heating for snow countries. Restaurants, gyms where your players could work out with fans or not, shops, first aid stations, parking lots, etc. You could even choose advertising hoardings (and obviously kit sponsors) based on who paid best.

I understand that some people just want to manage the team. But i'm willing to bet that, at minimum, for every one that only wants to manage the team, there'll be another one who would like to have the choice to have a more hands-on approach to shaping the club itself.

Apart from that this has nothing to do with a manager's responsibilities, atleast in a fairly big club.

For lower leagues, some of this could be "right", but even that's a strech in most cases, I guess.

As long as it's "Football Manager", then no. If someone makes "Football Director" or "Football Chairman" (or even "Football Board member"), then it's feasible..

Couldn't agree more.

FM already gives a fair amount of dialogue with your board who actually make these kinds of decisions to try to beg/influence on certain topics.  If you have a board that doesn't agree with your ambitions or decisions then you have the ultimatum option, just like many managers have clashed with their board IRL.

The reason to have those features, which we all agree has nothing to do with a manager role, is that we can see the club develop and have our own touch what takes a priority in the development of the club. I think makes the journey even more meaningful.

But as you said, the priority is management team of a football club and the priority will remain that. But development of a club is a potential feature that if done right can bring more enjoyment to the game. I for one I'm all forward to that.
