Germany matching Italy formation wise? Can't recall the last time the Germans changed formation in a competitive match to counter the opposition.

Tell you what, this is some record Italy have against Germany in major tournaments.

Eight meetings without defeat... incredible when you think how many times Germany have gone all the way in that time.

WC1962 - West Germany 0-0 Italy (Group Stage)

WC1970 - Italy 4-3 West Germany (Semi Final)

WC1978 - West Germany 0-0 Italy (Second Round)

WC1982 - Italy 3-1 West Germany (Final)

Euro 88 - West Germany 1-1 Italy (Group Stage)

Euro 96 - Italy 0-0 Germany (Group Stage)

WC2006 - Germany 0-2 Italy (Semi Final)

Euro 2012 - Germany 0-2 Italy (Semi Final)

Kinda why I'm struggling to understand why I could get 5/1 on Italy winning. I appreciate its not the quality of teams past, but Italy play Germany better than anyone.

Ovbiously it is a tactical move but dropping Draxler is harsh. He was their best player last game by far.

This looks way too defensive from Germany.

Hector has shown no offensive qualities so far and Kimmich isn't a natural wide player, either.

We might have a really boring game on our hands if there's no early goal.

I don't know whether Germany going 3-4-2-1 will work. They're not going to have 2 players occupying the CBs nor players very high and wide to pull them out of position. Seems like the only reason it's been done is to have a free DC to circulate possession if Pelle/Eder press.

Friendly win in March was the first time since 1996 that Germany had beaten us in any game

Yeah bit worried about this one, could be a real bore without an early goal.

How many Italians need to get booked before they'll be fielding keepers outfield in the Semis? ;)

That was an outrageous ball by Hummels to Kimmich there. Shame it came to nothing.

Hummels has better vision than most midfielders it seems.

Euro isn't Sturaro's level.

Jorginho watching the game at home.

Schmelzer also, while we're at it.

This is awful so far.

It doesn't have the craziness of Belgium playing such a stupidly wide expansive game, but it hasn't been awful.

I just don't get it why Low never plays Ozil in the most important games.

Couldn't even understand what happened until I saw two replays of that. What a block.

Italy are either losing their heads or kicking players intentionally to wind them up.

Hmm, he decided to put him in the second half.

Now Italy have to attack. Easier for Germany to pick them off.

Was that Sturaro who didn't track Hector's inside run there? One of the CMs had him then for some reason let him into the box completely free.

Florenzi's fault as well for losing the ball.
