Football Manager 2016 16.3.0 Feedback Thread

Recommended Posts

in the editor: real future transfers like viviano and taider which are set by SI: the most set as future transfer: "become a manager" iso player

when we create is always says: "become a player"

can someone confirm, this does not affect the player become a manager the 1 of july 2016?

Tried getting an answer on the Football Manager Twitter account with no luck. However, is there any reason Ezequiel Lavezzi, Nikica Jelavic and Tim Cahill are still at their respective clubs? Thanks.

+1 regarding crosses. I updated and sorta hoped to see a difference even though there was no mention of a change. Massively disappointed. Creating tactics I'm thinking "am I exploiting crossing too much" because I don't enjoy winning cheaply and I'm really past the point of analysing goals conceded from crosses. Not angry, just totally fed up and a bit disillusioned. Going forward I will continue a save on FM14, can't see me playing 16 again and will wait until I see people's opinion on 17 before buying. Don't mean to sound negative, just how I feel and wanted to get it off my chest.

I'm sorry, I hate to be part of the complain brigade. I've been playing FM since it was still CM, every year without fail. My favourite game that I can easily spend a full 12 months playing before I move onto the next version. This year I've been bitterly dissapointed to the point where I actually felt quite miserable about knowing I cant get the same enjoyment out of this years game.

The crossing issues isn't a huge problem. I can counter that with my tactics. The fact that AI managers seem to always pick the same players is ridiciolous bug that is going to affect short term and long term games. Long term games tend to get too easy because of the lack of AI development. However with the fact that the AI always plays the same 11 means that longer term players aren't developing due to lack of game time and short term, it's much easier to win because my players are fresh because I manage the squad.

I've holidayed through a full season, and checked in every month. So many times every team had half the squad wih RST icons beside players, this then leads to injuries which leads to weakened teams. At the end of 1 season, squad players in PREM league games are recording appearances in single figures....few maybe hit double figures.

I've never noticed this before, in previous games...but to me this is killing realism for me, and will really hinder long term games even more than they can be now.

Anybody who wants to defend the game, do me a favour and don't waste your time, I'm delighted you're happy with the game....I'm posting my feedback/opinion.

Considering I'll not be playing FM16 this year, I'll maybe have enough time without the game to put me off my obsessions with buying it every year on release day. To me, the game is getting weaker year in year out and I might have to rethink my loyalty to this game.

An interesting thought. Because I'm so let down with this game I had a look at other management games to give them a shot. Appears that there is no direct rival to these games anymore. CM/Fifa Manager are all discontinued. Perhaps the lack of competition has made SI lazy. ironic though, because when those companies were around, there was no competition as FM was always head and shoulders above the others.

Happened after the data lock cut off point I'm afraid if they've not been transferred. Unfortunately what with testing and everything else we have to have a cut off point else we'd never be in a position to release the update.

This update has killed my game.

Can't go past a certain date now.

Is there any way to delete this patch and play with the old version?

Steam keeps updating it.

Has anyone mentioned the problem of wingers heading the ball out of bounds for no reason? They're not being pressured, the ball is not hard to settle down, and they just head it out of bounds as if they are the defender rather than the attacker. I know that sometimes wingers head the ball out of bounds while trying to get it under control, but that's not what this was.

After updating, my game will not launch. I click Football Manager 201, and the black screen appears as if loading, but no graphics show up and my cursor just as the blue spinning circle. When I start my task manager, it always says Football Manager - Not Responding. Now, I can not play the game.

SI shouldn't release the game every year. If it's too hard to solve just a few frequent bug, they should wait until all of them are solved.

Haha .. Nice thought but money is the issue .... Thats why its released just before Xmas and the reason bugs are not fixed fully is because they keep the fixes for the next release .. Does the term ( New and Improved ) or ( Better Graphics and Animations ) ring a bell .

Just thought I'd mention - I run massive games - with ridiculous amounts of countries and leagues running - what used to happen was, especially if I was flicking thru lots of different screens, looking at clubs, players etc sometimes it would start to slow and then eventually the game would just bug out and I'd get a dump. I never really considered this an issue as an easy workaround was just to save the game and exit every couple of months or so - go back in and problem was solved.

I had the same issue if I tried to just play month after month after month - play too long - game would inevitably send me to my desk-top - again I knew this so save exit load back up and problem was solved - just became habit.

This patch - I've just played 15 months game time and there's been no dump - no desktop until I chose to leave and no slowing down or sluggishness in the interface.

I've had this issue over various versions of the game - various PC's - guessed it was maybe something to do with the amount of virtual memory being used or something - now my current machine is a bit of a beast - ideal for crunching numbers and for looking at porn - Windows 10 handles memory much better than 7 did as well but this issue was still there until this update - so whatever you did, you've just solved an issue I've had for years - maybe 5 or 6.

This was on a save game as well - not a new start with 17 countries & 37 or so leagues running - nice one, it'll take me a while to break the habit of saving and exiting every couple of months!

I get round the too easy bit by using editing to help my opponents out. It's easy enough to make the AI managers better and if you flood the game with prospects you'll find pretty quickly that there is nothing easy about it anymore. It's how I've ensured the longevity of the game for me and rather than winning the Champions League 10 years on the trot - now I'm ecstatic if I win it once in 10 years.

At first I was a bit put off at genetically engineering the game and also unsure I'd get the desired results - now I wouldn't have it any other way, no more winning the title in March - year after year down to the last few games if not the last game itself - which is when Football Manager is at it's best. When I find myself punching the air, running round the livingroom or holding my head in my hands - I realise that the power of the emotions attached to the response are as real as any I get from "real life" success and failure and revel in the fact that unless your an einstein et all, no one is gonna remember anything about me in 100 years, so I'm gonna have as much fun as possible whilst I'm here.

Alternate realities - remain realities - Gamer till I die - in fact one of the things that bugs me most about the fact I'm mortal is that I'm gonna miss Football Manager 2257.

Now where were we?

I know I said that I won't post here anymore, and I'm going to on my words, but it seems that I can't set scouting assignments for some reason. I managed responsibilities so I'm in charge of scouting assignments, but when I go to scout, and click on create new assignments, I can't choose country/region/whatsoever.
I'm having exactly the same issue as Firehouse, managing Torino and started on the previous patch. All countries are ghosted out and to get round it I have to go to the scouting screen and set scouting assignment rather than using the option on the news item when a scout finishes his previous assignment.

Thanks for the feedback guys and sorry you have encountered the issue. We will be looking into the problem and what could be causing this.

A thread on this issue has been started in the bugs forum here - http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/453901-Winter-Update-Scouting-Issue

Cheers,

Ben

whats up with the contract negotiations? was testing it out on marquinhos first offer said no and then i just agreed to the agents offer and it comes back that i failed to make an acceptable offer for this client and ends after 2 rounds of negotiations...seems to happen with every player now 17yr olds or experiences pros

Could you log a thread on this issue in the Transfers & Contracts bugs forum and we will then be able to look into the issue further - http://community.sigames.com/forumdisplay.php/523-Transfers-Contracts-and-Scouting-Issues

If you have a save game that shows the issue then that would be very helpful as this isn't an issue I have seen internally or reported elsewhere.

Cheers,

Ben

How do you go about editing to help out, improving managers stats, like what ones?

I'm happy to give it a shot, not ideal but at least I can still play my favourite game and having a challenge is what I like.

After holidaying two saves, I'm finding another problem that won't ruin the game but made it terribly unrealistic. Full backs ratings, Hector Bellerin won Footballer of the year. Good player but he's never going to win that award, especially not in a season, where Lukaku scores 36 goals in a premier league season, grabs 13 assists and single handedly almosts fires Everton to 3rd in the premier league.

Holidaying my second season and in October the top 10 rated players, 4 of them are full backs. Bellerin again is second in the rating.

With the new ME of 16.3.0 update, the playing became A LOT EASIER in my experience, maybe too much?!?!?!....

First of all (and this is good) the way my players play is a lot more realistically creative, a lot more responsive to the tactical movements I request, and all the players (mine and opponents) play a lot less monotonous, a lot more unpredictable than before.

But why I say that maybe it has become too much easier??

I am managing Foggia in Serie A 2017/2018: the matches I played before the update, expecially in Serie A, were extremely hard and they requested a full study of the match minute per minute, and however losing without any hope against top clubs, while in Serie B & Lega Pro it was all a lot easier (but I always suffer top leages, while loving lower leagues). For example, before 16.3.0, I regularly lost two matches in particular, one against Roma and one against Inter, replaying them 2 or 3 times to test my tactical changes... (against Inter I also lost 4-0.....)

Now - after an occasional blue screen of my computer, where I did not save my game, so I could repeat both critical matches, but after installing 16.3.0 this time - I won both of them in a wonderful way, in "champagne football": 4-1 (away!?!?!?!) against Roma and 2-1 (home) against Inter, dominating the field throughout................................................................................

That's it....... I'm going to play more matches to verify.

SPORTS INTERACTIVE??? YOO-OOO??

Any chance we get the full list of changes that came with the 16.3 patch?

I know you highlight the most important changes, but still, wouldn't be better to have the full picture?

We need to give feedback, tell us specificaly where to look for.

Play the game, and find out for yourself what's different. That's the whole point. I'd much rather they didn't announce any of the changes.

SI do not hold back fixes to create an "improved" version through an update, if an issue can be addressed it gets addressed.

A disclaimer: I haven't played many games on 16.3. But since the ME is pretty much the same as 16.2, I feel like I can comment informatively on the update. I have been playing FM for the best part of 15 years and this is the first time I'll have go give fairly negative feedback, but obviously I hope that this will help sort out future releases and interaction with the fanbase, rather than just being a rant.

First, I am very disappointed that no material changes were made to the ME. Crossing was an issue for me. But actually, the real issue for me is the variety of goals scored. I will quote another poster who put this much better than I could possibly have:

you are seeing two types of goals if you're not Cleon and watching preseason games on full isn't your thing (I've nothing personal, just saying):

1) two defenders vs opposing CM/AM/ST where the player with the ball dwells on it or runs with it until one of the defenders decides to break away and close him down, leaving a player unmarked. The ball is passed to the unmarked player and a goal is scored. D-line, formation, shape, TI/PI, roles/duties, OI, attributes, nothing makes a difference because it happens to everyone

2) random cross goal, and by random - I mean random. Whether it's the goal line 180 degree cross to the striker's head, or the fullback byline cross to the far post, where there appears to be almost no collision detection during the jump, results in a goal.

And really, it does take a lot out of the enjoyment of the game. I mean I see the start of the highlight - someone dribbling at my defence centrally. Ok, I know I just have to wait for the whole pull-defender-out-of-position-and-score-through-middle routine. Or not score, but create a chance. Then, see their attacker out wide. Ok, wait for the deep cross goal routine. I for sure feel real football is a lot less repetitive. And I can tweak my tactic to get/concede more goals through the middle or more from crosses, but still these two varieties dominate.

Second, thanks very much to Neil Brock from SI for giving a nice response to this issue. After reading the mods' comments on the first page I thought of giving up on spending my time to try and interact with SI and just decide whether to buy the next game or not, like someone here (forameus?) suggested. But that shows that maybe people's voices are being heard. Still, I can't see how Neil can say that this is a small issue affecting a small number of users. Vast majority of feedback on 16.2 and 16.3 is on this precise crossing issue. Now if you think that's a small minority because like someone said there are 200k people playing a game, you can never infer anything from a feedback thread, because there will never be that many people commenting. The people giving feedback is a sample from the 200k playing population, and whilst that sample is not going to be entirely representative, most people commenting are having an issue with crosses, so I would say it is fairly widespread. If SI still don't believe this it might be nice to conduct a poll to see how many people are affected. Maybe I am in a small minority on this one, this is the first time I have such an issue in playing FM, and it would be good to know whether I'm just unlucky to see lots of repetitive goals and unrealistic crossing in this version.

Third, as I briefly mentioned above, I found the responses from the mods on this thread disrespectful and over the top. Like commenting in bold not to complain about crosses and having between-mod exchanges taking the mickey out of people giving feedback, like it's all one big pointless moan and the "adults" in the room can just laugh at this feedback. A large number of people had issues with crosses in the ME, this has not been changed, so why all the fury about people highlighting that they were not happy that this has not been changed? I mean this was the number 1 issue with the previous patch, has not been fixed in 5 months, so really is it that surprising that is is the number 1 issue on the new patch? People do actually spend their valuable time giving feedback and just being slapped down and told not to talk about it is not very encouraging.

Fourth, just to be clear, this year's version has both big positives and negatives. For me the big positive is that it's much harder to win games and you have to be much more responsive with player roles and tactical structures to achieve. For me this big plus is counteracted by the repetitiveness of goals, and I don't know whether the "net" result is a positive or negative. It just would be nice if we could enjoy the positive development without too much of the negatives. And I don't feel like going back to FM15, that also had its problems, e.g. high number of shots, and it was quite easy to win with a super-tactic regardless of your players.

I will have a break from the game for sure, maybe I will come back to FM 16, maybe I will buy next year's version. It's the first time I am reconsidering the purchase of next year's FM, but maybe I'm just getting old ;) But if you take just one thing away from my feedback, if the goal repetitiveness is reduced, together with the new tactical depth and increased difficulty the game would be pretty awesome. I just really hope SI focus on the ME for next year's development, this is the thing that really matters.

EDIT: oh, and I'm very happy that the positional training has been sorted. This was a big minus for me on the previous patch, given the high importance of player roles/positional suitability. Shame it was not sorted earlier though, by now I'm not going to play much more FM anyway and had to put up with this bug for a rather long time.

A coincidence??? Losing without hope against top clubs before the update, and than winning happily after the update? ... :)

I'm afraid it is not a coincidence, I saw everything different on the field.

I suspect that's subliminal marketing, alternating harder and easier match engines, to keep us stick to the game... Don't tell me that the ME isn't partially ruled by marketing purposes and only seeking to be more and more realistic: in that case, you would have already found the definitive ME years go, so "no new FM next year, just transfer update" :)

Your irony about my blue screen crash (maybe to avoid the question...) is out of place: it happens sometimes when I don't turn off my laptop for a few days to play FM16, leaving it suspended at night.

However, I repeat what's good: "the way my players play is a lot more realistically creative, a lot more responsive to the tactical movements I request, and all the players (mine and opponents) play a lot less monotonous, a lot more unpredictable than before".

No irony, you should get it investigated. A random crash on a system is never a good thing, nor should ever just be left.

There were some changes to the match engine but has already been discussed in this thread they were fairly limited, so any major changes like you have experienced would be unlikely due to the update.

It's also impossible to make the match engine 'easier', as any changes would effect the AI as much as the user. There is no bias shown towards the user.

The coincidence part is that you happened to win...

There isn't a slider in the match engine that SI move from easy to hard to mess with customers, that's the weirdest conspiracy theory yet.

It may be a case that something slight tweaked in the ME allowed your particular tactic on that day to win easier against that particular team using that particular tactic.. but it's a coincidence that it helped you in this case... it could have just as easily been harder for you.

There was no irony(?) in his suggestion to worry about your BSOD ... it's a serious issue and there is something obviously wrong with your system..

You would, in fact, be better off worrying about that than this weird tin foil hat conspiracy you have going here.

Mine is no conspiracy theory (so yours is one-dimensional thinking?... :) ), I just suppose how it works generally :)

Well, whatever it is, somebody who spent so much time analyzing matches minute by minute would of have noticed that even matches against the same opponents employing the same managers will never be the same. Aside of confidence, players out and stuff, AI managers visibly react to expectations in result and in match the run of goals, which will never be the same. Rather than just miraculously "dominating" play with a bit of exercise and a decent cam view you can work out what's happened pretty easily, in particular as the extremes of an AI going flat out desperate overload (and being easy target for the counter) vs. playing it safe and protecting a lead are blatantly to see in a decent cam view. Also their can be curious AI manager tactical decisions, so if you would like to get this investigated and suspect something is not right, you can upload a pkm. :-)

Out of interest, was the match analysis fixed? Maybe I can't find it, but if you view an incident (click on a player, click on "headers", click on a header dot to view the incident) it would flat out reset once the incident was shown, so in order to view the next incident you would click on a player again, click on the category and click the dott all anew. Bit of a nightmare. Maybe I'm just plain dumb and blind in this case though. :-)

Only thing I've noticed is that the game now seems to navigate quicker without lag.

I've perfected a tactic on 16.2 and delighted that's its carried on performing with no differences on 16.3

In fairness, you can't blame people for being annoyed, I have supported FM since the very early CM days and I honestly believed that the crossing issues would have been addressed, if we don't like it, we have to wait for FM17. That is some bad customer service. I will seriously consider for the first time ever not buying the next installment.

I think I have no choice but to go back to FM15. Shame really.

You dont know what your talking about, if the crossing issues could have been fixed while keeping the overall balance of the match engine, it would have been fixed, you really think its that simple dont you, if they done what you wanted and reduced crossing frequency and goals from crosses the whole match engine would be a mess, and you would be on here complaining about how they shouldnt have touched it.

I was able to find the option there for disabled, and up to 10 seconds but the option I was thinking of was the % of users have continued timer that allowed longer options usually opting for a 1 minute timer I think.

Go to the "Game Status" screen and the countdown is still there, but it seems to start at 1 minute, count down to 56 seconds and then loop back up to 1 minute again.

Another interesting thing I've discovered whilst holidaying to test the long term game....United signed Saido Behrahino for 18.5 million in August 2017, sold him in January 18 for 10.5, only to buy him back again for 15.25 in June 18. I checked his form with his club he joined after United, thinking he had perhaps shown incredible form. But he played 2 times for Spurs in those 6 months....Scoring no goals.

Those type of transfer decisions have been a problem for years, SI are getting better at coding out the poor behaviour but any help you can provide with a save game either before Utd sell him or buy him for a second time.

Hey Abaka,

Sounds like it may be worth posting this in here: http://community.sigames.com/forumdisplay.php/523-Transfers-Contracts-and-Scouting-Issues

May not be a bug, but may well be worth investigating as unusual/unrealistic behaviour.

As Barside mentioned above, a save illustrating the issue would most useful.

Cheers,

Seb.

Unfortunately there is a problem with these not being present in the FMT skin - however, they are all still there if you're in the default FM skin & the settings that you choose there do carry over into FMT games. Believe the only way to change back is to load up an FM save, which is a bit of hassle.

Unfortunate as you say, but there is a workaround which is useful, I'll probably sort that out before we next load up the network game. Hopefully its back for the next FM - the speed & quickness of continuing and general game play is one of the big plus points to an FMT network game vs a full fat network game.

Yes I do know what I am talking about. Just because you don't agree with my point of view doesn't make what I am saying wrong. It is a viewpoint. I am not a fan of the changes to the tactics screens compared to FM15.

Has anybody else noticed their pre-patch free scoring strikers suddenly can't score for toffee? 1 match left of a now unsuccessful season, so will have a good tinker in pre-season, but didn't want to change too much in case I just had a run of "those" games, or whether the patch has effected previously prolific attacking players?
