We finally have a HOYD, but I'm not happy. We missed out on our perfect candidate because of my stupidity, and then my second choice went to Cosmos for 25 quid a week before I could get a bid in. I wanted about 20 blokes before this guy, but every single one of them wanted way more than we could offer (for some reason we can only offer a HOYD 275 quid a week, even though we've got over 100k free in wages?) Anyway, here he is:

I'll be trying to get someone with a better personality in ASAP, but 20/20 and ambitious will have to do for now.

There goes the second best striker in our history. An absolutely superb target man, he complimented Luca Gatti (YP124) perfectly. 359 games, 304 goals, 97 assists, 57 MOTMs and a 7.87 average rating to go with 110 caps. What a player.

Look at these groups. The only ones I didn't want were B and J. We're getting screwed over at the moment. There were a lot of groups that I thought second was achievable. I don't see a point being up for grabs here.

Is this our best result ever? It's definitely up there. They dominated us but superb last ditch defending bailed us out, and we were able to take one of our chances late on to snatch a draw against Spurs. That's eight time Europa winners, 8 time Europa runners up and 1 time CL runners up Spurs. No Berardi, no problem, right?

Sorry Jimbo, I only just saw your edit. I'm gutted I missed out on that HOYD because of my own stupidity.

I tried having an absolute load of English staff at my club before for a while (and I still have a few), but I didn't get one English player in that time. For some reason, the only staff available that aren't Italian or San Marino and that are realistic targets for us are English. I've just looked through HOYDs and Assistant Managers, but the only ones available are Italian or Sammarinese, so that's not an option :(

PPM of "knocks ball past opponent" with acceleration of 8 and pace of 7.

Good luck with that.

With his bravery of 5 as well, he'll probably knock it forward, realise he's never going to get there and doesn't quite fancy challenging for it anyway, and just sit down on the floor in a mood.

Season Review

Campionato Sammarinese:

Table

Schedule

I'm so wound up. We dominated the final, but we're not even in the CL next year.

Coppa Titano:

Table

Schedule

Yay.

Squad

Key Players:

Highest Average Rating:

Federico Cervellini (YP130) - 8.16

So. Good.

Top Goalscorer:

Diego Rinaldi (YP138) - 17

With Berardi out on loan, we didn't really have a consistent goalscorer.

Manager's Player of the Year:

Alessandro Felici (YP131)

Another quietly superb season.

Aims for next season:

We can't afford to not make the Europa Groups, at least.

Other teams:

League Winners: Libertas.

Cup Winners: :D

How the team in CL qualifying did: Celtic beat us in the Third Round.

How the teams in Europa qualifying did: We got one point in the groups. Tre Fiori lost 5-0 to Slovakians Ruzomberok and Murata lost 5-0 to Sparta Prague but Folgore were seeded and took full advantage, beating St Joseph's from Gibraltar 5-1. They lost 5-0 to Vaduz from Lichtenstein in the Second, but at least we finally got a tiny bit of help.

San Marino National team:

2118 Results -- 2119 Results

Not a terrible performance in that Nations League group.

Do you have any Model Pro staff who have 20 JPP and high WWY?

My suggestion is that you don't actually have to set your HoYD as the person responsible for the Youth Intake.

I have chosen to have my Ass Man do it in the past for example, (because I didn't have a HoYD), and when the HoYD arrived I forgot to change it.

I've just looked at my Partizan save now and I can choose for any of DoF, HoYD or U19's Manager to be responsible.

That's a superb suggestion. I don't think I do now, but I'll see if I can hire one.

Well, an interesting development. I found someone who's preferred staff role was manager, and got him to accept a job as my U19s manager. He did, but then I wondered if I could just get him in as my HOYD anyway - and he accepted. I didn't realise that people other than HOYD specialists would be happy to become HOYDs. So, it looks like we have a new Model Pro HOYD. Thank you, Jimbo :D

Unambitious personality as well, halfway through the match he'd probably decide he can't be bothered.

One possible suggestion I have is to try and almost work around the restrictions that are placed on you by your location and your own self-imposed restrictions.

One of the areas in which you have made great strides is club raking and according to a recent post, you are now up to 90th place in the European ranking tables. That's done by coefficient though I think rather than reputation, so it's all about performances.

While the National structure reputation is proving outrageously hard to improve, I am guessing that your own club reputation has improved a little more easily, (but I haven't seen posts about that if there are any)?

My suggestion is..... now that you are quite highly ranked, (I think 90th is high considering where you have come from), and assuming your club reputation has improved a little too, well...... how do you feel about applying for a feeder club at small club in a big league with a view to getting some players from that nation in your intake?

The relationship looks like this.

SRB%20River%20Plate%20feeder%20Mar%202019_zpsrpwwgmo3.png

It might be just the workaround that you need to get to the next level.

[Edit]

Great HoYD.

Sign him straight up and don't worry at all about the PPM.

To give you an example, of the 16 players in my last intake, 15 were outfield players. (GK's have fewer PPM's to choose from so let's ignore the GK).

Of the 15 outfield players, 9 of the players shared a total of 14 ppm's, (which struck me as a lot).

My HoYD isn't very good, (I'm just letting my DoF deal with staff at the moment), but he doesn't have any PPM's.

Additionally, my HoYD has a Balanced personality, (oh the shame of it and I am immediately going to have to resolve that right now!), and let's have a look at the players that came through this intake.

Pro. x2

F.Pro.

Det.

F.Det. x2

Bal. x4

Amb.

F.Amb.

Sport.

Cas. x2

Low.Det.

Is the sort of intake you would expect from a Balanced HoYD? Certainly there are more Balanced players than any other type, but isn't that to be expected? How has he produced 2x Pro players and 1x F.Pro?

Now I have ideas about this, but if we just look at this intake in isolation, (I'm not but it helps to do so to make this point), it suggests that the HoYD doesn't have quite the impact on player personality and PPM inheritance that many people assume it does.

Now..... add in my other staff and look at it again and...... they have a total of 0 PPM's, yet 9 of this years intake shared 14 PPM's between them. Even if we spread the 14 PPM's out accross the whole 16 players in the intake, that's still high. So... what does that tell you?

Another suggestion is that you employ non-Sammarinese staff in key positions if you can. I have had 1 single player through my intake who was not a Serb, (either 1st or 2nd Nationality). He was Portugese and where do you think my Ass Man is from? That's right. Portugal! Try and get around these restrictions that the game is imposing on you.

How about trying to employ just 1 member of staff per country, and make sure that neither Ass Man nor HoYd are Sammarinese? (I'm not sure how realistic that is given your situation, but the general priniciple should work).

any chance you'll be updating us with your serb youth save jimbo? i miss your threads!

Absolutely pathetic. We should never be losing to Vojvodina, and it's the first time we haven't made the groups in 17 years. I think we're in for a bad few years while we try and replace our aging players.

Youth Intake Day!

My assistant rates him better than I do. I don't see him as a ST and we don't use an AM so I'll retrain him to a CM, but if he's already at 1.5* CA I'm not sure how much room he actually has to develop.

fb4f07bcc6554faa02a48f1ebfdaa8df.png

He needs tutoring, but he looks like a moderately promising striker.

68916d9a0b81107def142e93b0177083.png

15 passing is great, but his personality and physicals are terrible.

e8808e1f2cc7a5ee6868df82539bc2a0.png

He really doesn't look that good (2 one on ones...) but 2.5* PA is decent, and I'm so desperate for someone other than Luca Stolfi to be in goal I'd probably tag Helen Keller as a keeper at this point.

All in all, not a bad intake.

Here's our new HOYD. I don't like his personality, but we just couldn't get anyone else to sign a contract with us, seeing as our board only lets us offer limited wages for staff members for some reason. We can pay Berardi 15k a week, but we can't pay a HOYD, the most important position on our team more than £240 a week. Riiiiiight.

Season Review

Campionato Sammarinese:

Table

Schedule

The final was nervier than it should be, but at least we're back in the CL.

Coppa Titano:

Table

Schedule

Yay.

Squad

Key Players:

Highest Average Rating:

Federico Cervellini (YP130) - 8.37

So. Good.

Top Goalscorer:

Federico Berardi (YP135) - 41

When he stays healthy, he's unstoppable.

Manager's Player of the Year:

Massimilliano Favaro

He was superb as our Box to Box Midfielder.

Aims for next season:

Our coefficient must be screwed after these last four seasons, but we need to make it to the Europa Groups, at least.

Other teams:

League Winners: :D

Cup Winners: :D

How the team in CL qualifying did: Libertas lost 3-2 to Omonia in the Second Round. That's not too bad.

How the teams in Europa qualifying did: We lost in the Playoff, Folgore lost 3-1 to Kazakhstan side Irtysh Paviodar and Faetano lost 6-3 to St. Pats.

San Marino National team:

2119 Results -- 2120 Results

To only lose 1-0 and 2-0 to Spain and 1-0 to Portugal is excellent.

One of the best FBs we've ever had? Probably. Zavoli finishes his career at the age of a 36 with 351 appearances, 16 goals, 47 assists, 5 MOTMs and an average rating of 7.55. Superb.

(Oh, and he also got 127 caps).

5 MOM awards in 351 appearances from a full back?

My full-backs get loads of MOM awards. I suppose it is your attackers that win MOM most often?

Pretty much. It's usually my CMs or STs, sometimes my wingers, but never really a defender. I have them on FB(S) and don't ask them to go forward all that much. Usually, though, someone will score a couple and get a 9.2+ domestically, so it's hard for a FB to beat that.

The game has recognised that our own stadium is better than the NT stadium, and we've been allowed to move into our own one for European games! I'm both impressed that's possible and happy that it's happened :D

My disappointment at one of our bad intakes definitely clouded my judgement over one of the players, because I completely let Andrea Zavoli slip through the cracks.

75ab49194424cf70653c32437720c2bf.png

He was rated 2.5* PA at the time but he's now jumped up to 3.5*, and he's definitely competing for a first team spot. I think my pecking order up front goes Federico Berardi (YP135), Marco Giardi (YP137), Andrea Zavoli and then Diego Rinaldi (YP138) and Luca Leoni (YP143). I really need to pay closer attention to player's attributes, rather than just their CA and PA.

That's one of the most exciting games we've had in a long time. After they took the lead early from a fantastic free kick, I was holding my head in my hands. That didn't last long, as just three minutes later Federico Berardi (YP135) hit a beauty from just inside the box to put us back on level terms. My head was in my hands once again, as they nicked a goal from a corner. We went on the attack once that happened and completely took the game to them, getting our equaliser when Federico Cervellini (YP130) put a fantastic ball in for Andrea Zavoli to head home from six yards. With just four minutes left and it looking like we were heading to Romania with a draw, we hit Cluj on the counter, and Cervellini's cross found Luca Padovani at the backpost, who gleefully smashed home the winner, and cemented his place as my starting LM for the season in doing so.

(Also, no idea why this one was played at the NT stadium but the others weren't. Send your answers on a postcode to Romania, because we're going there to fight for a place in the CL Groups.)
