Shanghai Shenhua Season Review

Well I managed to win the Chinese Super League with 2 games to go.

image.thumb.png.28ce2b072c369129343519ba936eb5c9.png

I won the league with 5 points ahead of my rivals Shanghai SIPG.

image.thumb.png.f68a27277c6211f80353039f9b2c940e.png

My reputation is up to 50% now and have all the licenses.

image.thumb.png.757bec21b32763a94439c7bed4362309.png

My next aim is to win the Asian Champions League and then I can leave Asia forever.

I just took the Wales job so I will see how I do with them, maybe win the Euros or World Cup, they do have a good squad despite not having Bale there now.

Season 2021/22 - Cefn Druids Season 2

After a ok 6th place finish last season i made big improvements to the team, anyone who's got some form of Welsh knowledge will know that TNS are the giants of Welsh domestic football, so overcoming them in the season would be very tough.

Skipping to the final day of the league season - TNS and Barry Town were both sitting on 55 and i was on 53. My goal difference was better than both so if i won and neither of them won i would win the league

I won my game 5-1, job done.

Barry Town drew 0-0, putting me ahead of them

But an 82nd minute winner for TNS meant they won the league by 2 points.

Gutting that it could be another season with no reward but i still had the Welsh Cup final v Barry! A 3-1 win meant i win my first trophy of the save!

Delighted with that and i will strongly consider leaving because TNS are hard to topple

Oh, I also joined Rwanda, dunno why, they're bad and there's barely any players to pick from.

My one reply per 2 months is back, i'm not very good at these but will try to keep it up.

After winning the cup last year i had one goal this year, win the league and get out of Wales and move on...

image.thumb.png.be749de1c7c26f823084b327f1b1f1a1.png

League won at an absolute canter, i've had 3 full seasons at this club now and have a strong fondness with them, did nothing in the cups but i'd already ticked that off..

I also resigned from Rwanda as that was pointless and we had no where near enough quality to compete in AFCON Qualifiers

When resigning I honestly thought i'd be able to get a decent gig somewhere, Swedish/Norweigan mid table side or something, but nope, i had an interview with an Icelandic club and Bohemians in Ireland, both turned me down, another month of panicking and I ended up going a short distance from Wales to Ireland and have signed for St Patricks Athletic...

image.thumb.png.6222f6b151c340ed9e4fd65046359201.png

Bit worrying but i should hopefully be able to do something with 10 games left

Beat me to MLS. I got my new job at Inter Milan though! Just lost the Champions League Round of 16 though.

Cheers mate and good luck with Inter Milan.

End Of Season Update

I just missed out on the play offs with LA Galaxy but I was expecting it. I hate the MLS cos of the silly rules and trades etc. Annoying I had to unregister some of my best players cos they were over their wage cap and my board waiver their contracts cos I unregistered them. I should of picked a Mexican team but oh well.

Doing better with Wales as I am top of my qualifying group for Euros and also top of Nations League as well.

@vikeologist what do I need to win in the MLS as part of the challenge. Is the MLS Cup part of the achievements even if it classes as a domestic cup?

I am only asking cos I just won the MLS cup with LA Galaxy after finishing 3rd in the MLS Western Conference and then winning in the MLS Cup.

Clarification on rules for different nations are in post 3 at the start of the thread.

Quote

MLS (USA) - For challenge purposes the MLS Cup counts as the league, and the US Open Cup counts as the cup. The Canadian Championship, and the league section of the MLS (Supporters Shield) don't count for anything.

End Of Season Update

I managed to get another achievement on the challenge by winning the MLS cup. The sooner I get out of North America the better, the MLS is so confusing.

I had a terrible Euro's with Wales only getting 2 draws and 1 loss, didn't get through the 2nd round so I resigned and managed to get the USA National Team job cos I want to win the Gold Cup.

I want to try manage a few nations as I go along even after I achieve all the International achievements on the challenge.

My aim is to win the CONCACAF Champions League and then I can leave North America forever lol.

I managed to win the CONCACAF Champions League, it went easier then I expected to be honest as I didn't expect to win it first time of me being in the competition.

This post, and the flurry of replies and being 5-0 up after 20 minutes in the competitive) match I'm currently playing made me reminiscent of an old thread

Used to like it because it tied all the challenges together.

If someone restarted it, it runs itself. One would just need to rewrite the opening post, and maybe ask moderators if it's possible to ban someone who would cheat their way to every record.

Small Update

I got my next club job and I decided to enjoy the sunshine and the next team I am managing is FC Porto as they have a really good squad so would have a good chance of winning another league and a domestic cup and maybe have a decent chance of Champions League glory.

Here is their current squad

Orlando Pirates 2034/35 end of season review

A brilliant season that was almost unprecedented but for a couple of losses on penalties. We started the year by winning the African Super Cup, beating our biggest rivals Kaizer Chiefs fairly comfortably

image.thumb.png.21d373715e815606b5e55939e899d099.pngimage.thumb.png.1d6bdbc67e5d7eb8c4615dc432993a4e.png

We followed that up by reaching the final of the MTN 8 cup but we lost on penalties to AmaZulu in a game we absolutely dominated

image.thumb.png.03c752becbe8aa10294e97af64946106.pngimage.thumb.png.64ace1a10095bb209e1566b86637f8ba.png

Next up was the Telkom Knockout cup, which we won with a 4-0 domination of Kaizer Chiefs

image.thumb.png.3413d23c200d6347aa52d8c5a9f6e7fb.pngimage.thumb.png.a895f227e5b0171a70f838929132cdba.png

image.thumb.png.00a0531bb72f09c05c9465efe1791481.png

The next competition completed was the Premiership, which we won with 6 games left and ended up winning by 23 points. We didn't quite make it through the season undefeated but we did only concede 9 goals and ended with a goal difference of +55. 2 and a half years ago we were bottom of the league remember!

image.thumb.png.ad2231fbf539d2eb765c312cf07d645b.pngimage.thumb.png.eaf2ca1a9c6908227ba20fe0c19a978e.png

Next up is the Nedbank Cup, where we made it to the semi-final but again lost on penalties - to the team 15th in the league who had also stolen our undefeated record in the league a few months earlier! Another game where we dominated but just couldn't take our chances.

image.thumb.png.3cf64c8fb47acc4bbcab8eab5aa6ba74.pngimage.thumb.png.9ff67642bbaede3580423d8fc1cdc9b2.png

Finally was the CAF Confederations Cup, which we won again. We smashed everything in our path and won the final 7-1. Hopefully the Champions League is just as easy next season so I can get out of South Africa, the number of games is killing me! The instant result button got used for the last 6 games of the league season and will be in use a lot next year as well.

image.thumb.png.7099d5f26201ed52dee0905036712083.pngimage.thumb.png.0ba094094faebb7ad47e2c723a52cef4.png

I had to constantly rotate the team which meant that everyone got in on the action this year. Some of the young players I've brought through from our academy are absolute studs but this guy is the cream of the crop. Club captain at 20, he wouldn't be out of place in a leading European league.

image.thumb.png.847133b29654c2edbde3fb38dcbb85b9.png

In more proof that GK ratings are broken, every single player in the squad averaged 7.00 or higher except the GKs even though they conceded 27 goals in 60 games! Shout out to Mkwhanazi for averaging 8.18 for the season, I've never seen an average that high in my life.

image.thumb.png.65581f3c779debe3e1d0192222a2ac9b.png

One aim for next year, win the Champions League. Nothing else matters and I'll probably instant result everything else to get through it quicker. One more title and I'll be halfway through the challenge as well. So far it's taken over 700 games and the excitement is still there, it only started to be a slog once I'd won a cup and the league was won in every way except mathematically and I was just playing out the year, but I still had to get through so many games in so many competitions. I'll be glad to see the back of Africa!

Velez Sarsfield/Australia

July 2026 - December 2027

This is a two-season update because the scheduling for the Argentine Primera Division and Copa Libertadores crossover and it just seems like a merry-go-round of updates, so I will condense this one.

I finished these matches over a week ago but just got stuck doing uni work and haven’t had much time to write this review. I have also completed a season with Inter Milan which will be updated in the next post.

Velez Sarsfield:

Joined in July 2026 with the team still in 2026 Copa Libertadores, in which we lost to Flamengo early on. I managed to sign my SuperSport United star, Tom Hutchinson who ended up running the show in both my seasons. Overall a great save winning the League and Copa Libertadores but a pity I didn’t get to win the Copa Argentina. Here is a list of the competitions I took part in:

Australia:

Joined them in 2026 after the World Cup. Started off with a not so good record in the friendlies, granted they were against good opposition. I managed them in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup which to be fair was quite easy. I toyed between 4231 and 5212 formations. The only tough game was the Semi Final against China.

Western United

Only stayed on to go for the FFA Cup after winning the league last season. Started before the league however finished in December playing 1 game a month.  Ended up winning the Cup which included a 14 - 0 thumping!  @vikeologist checked the thread you sent and it doesn't register!

Kept an eye out for next opportunities in France, Mexico, USA and Greece however not much was forthcoming. I did apply with PSG however didn't even get an interview (2nd time this save) so I look forward to meeting them from their opposition bench!  Olympiakos job came up and applied but didn't hear from them for months... still waiting.  Ended up staying long enough to do the double.  Then the right job popped and I now find myself at.....  Galaxy!

Well thank you. I have already won the TIM Cup with Inter. And currently topping the table with 10 games to go. However the Champions League has been dreadful! 2 First Knockout Rounds in a row now. So frustrating. I'm leaving Inter at the end of the season so I'll do another double season update. But I am going to be posting alot less because I've started classes again, well online classes. I'll try secretly play in the background during the lectures (nobody rat me out okay, lol). My ultimate mission is to finish this challenge.

Hello chaps

Currently having a go at the youth academy challenge however after reading some of the stories on this thread so far iv found the motivation to try this challenge.

After applying for jobs for 6 months my career will be starting at ST Luis who currently play in the Chilean First Division B. It is currently the half way point of the season (15 games left) and we sit 3 points of the playoffs and 8 points of top spot. They have a media prediction of 2nd pre season so i feel this is a good chance to gain a quick promotion back to the Chilean First Division and build my reputation there.

Challenge Update

In my season with Porto I managed to win the Portuguese Liga NOS and the Taca De Portugal Placard cup so that is few more achievements done on the challenge. I also managed to get through to the Champions League Semi final losing 6-4 on aggregate to Liverpool who thrashed me 5-0 in the first leg.

image.thumb.png.9093cd5073016e585e900c4292f230a4.png

My reputation is now up to 75% so I am confident I will get some top teams wanting to hire me now. I have resigned from Porto and will see where I end up. In the mean time I got the World Cup with Chile to concerntrate on.

The Man Utd and Barcelona jobs are up for grabs and they would be awesome teams to carry on this challenge with.

Small Update

I got offered the Man Utd job and as they are the club I follow in real life I thought I should try win them the Prem and Champions League.

The team failed to qualify for the Champions League somehow. I mean if you look at their squad it amazes me how they didn't win everything.

image.thumb.png.e7161a808aff3f776ae0c41934e9d4a1.png

I got a lot of unhappy players wanting to leave after Man Utd failing to qualify for the Champions League before I took over. I have offered all of them out and I have a massive transfer budget of 178m to spend before player sales so I will be ok. It is nice to see Marcus Rashford and Axel Tuanzebe still at Man Utd after all these years.

I wont be getting the World Cup anytime soon after losing to Japan in the 2nd round after extra time due to my idiot defender getting sent off in extra time. I was all over them as well. I got proper FM'd there.

So the less said about my time with ST Luis the better. It seemed as though it was a great opportunity for a quick promotion into the Chilean First Division, however upon arrival I quickly realised the club was in a terrible  financial position with overspending on both the transfer and the wage budget. (3k over on wage budget). There was 1 coach at the club and no assistant manager, however I could not hire anyone due to the current overspending. To combat this I tried to offload some of the highest paid players within the club. One of these was the backup goalkeeper who was getting paid 2.5k a week to sit on the bench. My time with the club went downhill as soon as I whacked him on the transfer list, the whole team turned against me ,  morale was at an all time low, the performances on the training pitch were just a dire, with sub 6 training ratings been a common occurrence, and of course , this reflected on match day. The team just did not seem to click with the tactics, even the games we won were poor performances, and it was only a matter of time before the board gave me an ultimatum, 9 points in 5 games or sacked. I then lost 3 on the bounce , game over.

So now I am back looking for jobs, I am tempted to load up the English leagues as it is currently December, so I may be able to get lucky with a club who could be struggling, which could allow myself to build up my reputation a fair bit if I manage to save them.

Its safe to say , whoever I end up managing, I think I will pay a bit more attention to what I may be walking into before the job is took on. ST Luis was a shambles from start to finish, and I do not want another repeat of it.

Due to this I have restarted with the same manager profile, South African and English leagues are currently loaded to see what I can end up with. Annoyed for not realising earlier.

Challenge Update

My first season with Man Utd was a bit rubbish, I did manage to win the FA Cup and Europa League but I only got 3rd place in the league when I was hoping to win the title so I am a bit gutted.

I am hoping to win the title next year and maybe win the Champions League.

Vikeologist's Uruguay 2024/25 Report

Fresh from my Carabao Cup and relegation avoiding triumphs, I hoped my employability stock would be practically sky high, but Chelsea didn’t even offer me an interview and the likes of Italy, Spain, Argentina, and even Aus Bloody Stralia turned their noses up at me internationally.

In the end the only offers I received were Uruguay, Switzerland and Czechia, so I chose the first.

There weren’t even any decent club jobs once all the big boys had filled their positions.

Uruguay are hardly a hopeless project however, even though my best chance of success, the Copa America, is 4 years away. Not sure how happy I am at the idea that this may cause me to be with Everton for 4 years, but just glad to finally have an international job, (not counting Indonesia U23).

For the moment though the task was to ensure that we qualified for the next World Cup.

Even though it was early stages, Uruguay were in danger of slipping out of the qualification places. Indeed, we did just that when we lost our first match. We then won 5 on the trot, before losing in short order to both Argentina and Brazil.

We’ll qualify no problem, but those last 2 results don’t make me optimistic that this is a nation I can win silverware with.

Vikeologist's Everton 2024/25 Report

Image result for everton fc

You know, I’ve been pissed off in the past with people who miraculously seem to win every competition in this challenge that they need to in order to progress. It’s a little bit uncomfortable that I am winning every competition I need to progress.

For most of the season I thought my challenge attempt, after getting off to a good start, was stalling. The club was in debt when I took over, and it’s been a long struggle to turn that around only able to shop in the bargain basement.

We won the League Cup again, even though I played a very rotated side throughout, which did at least mean that we didn’t have to worry about finishing in the top 7, which was lucky, because it was by no means certain that we would finish in the top 7. Eventually we did finish 7th.

We made it to the final of the Europa League, and it was only then I realised that winning it would qualify us for the Champions League.

And win it we did. We were 7-0 up at half time against Roma; and indeed still 7-0 up at full time. Police; I need to report a murder.

The jobs at Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal have become vacant. City are the only one of them in the CL with us next season, but I doubt I’ll be offered the job anyway, because I have an international job at Uruguay.

It’s not that I need to win the Champions League with Everton; just the league, but the CL money will be really helpful in achieving that in the next 2 seasons, which I really hope is as long as it takes.

I also need to think about making sure I’m in charge of a European team for the next Club World Championships.

Crap, I’ve just realised that’s in 2 weeks time, and it’s very possible Man Utd will be in it. So, if I don't get that job, I need to be sitting in the right chair 4 seasons from now.

Top Goalscorer – Richarlison – 26

Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) – Sandro – 7.39

Man of The Match – Sandro – 8

My 2 strikers win the same categories they won last year. A third striker, Moise Kean improved and played a lot and had a better strike rate.

Most Valuable Player– Christopher McKay

Like last year, no player really stands out.  My 19 year old right winger had the most assists and created the most chances. I bought him for £20 mill, and he developed well over the season. He’s a wonderkid, and is probably our best player now.

Small Challenge Update

I am so annoyed. From what I remembered as a kid the Club World Cup was usually played in November unless I got that wrong but for some reason the Club World Cup was played in May. So I had to holiday a whole season with Man Utd to play the Club World Cup but I ended up 6th in the Premiership and Man Utd sacked me a month before I could of played the Club World Cup. So I wasted a season on that.

Anyway onwards and upwards and I applied and got the job with Athletico Madrid who ended up 2nd the season before.

Hoping to win something with them this year either the Spanish cup or the league.

Didn't even get offered an interview with Man City or Arsenal.

Man Utd gave me an interview, but went with someone else.

Not sure I would have taken it anyway. Would have had the chance to win the Club World Championship, but they're not in the Champions League this season.

Would have had to take it though. Club World Championship is a potential nightmare. I have to get it next time (4 years time) because I don't want to have to stay in Europe for another 8 seasons.

On the other hand, would have been quite tough to inherit a team during the championships themselves and win the thing.

Anyway, didn't have the option. Having an international job really cramps your club job style.

So on with Everton I go.

Inter Milan

Feb 2028 – May 2029

Inter Milan:

Joined in February 2028, when they were 7th but the table was quite close. They were still in the Champions League (lost to Man City in the 1st KO Round) and TIM Cup Semis and they had beat Roma 1-0 before I joined so I already had one foot in the final, which I won. And finishing 2nd allowing me to qualify for the Champions League in which I ended up making it out of the group of death but got thumped by Chelsea in the 1st Knockout Round. Although the league went more smoothly with 6 teams fighting for the league throughout the season, so plenty points dropped by my rivals which allowed my consistent performances to win the league. Julio Segovia, a striker I signed in the summer scored a whopping 36 goals in 32 league games, nearly double the next best goalscorer in the league.

International:

I may have forgotten to apply to the vacancies after 2028. So I have no luck on that front. It's now thre Gold Cup which I hope allows me to get the Mexico, USA or even Canadian job.
Additionally I have left Inter Milan at the end of the season to join LA Galaxy! Hopefully I can secure Champions League football and win it on my first try.

I prefer doing my updates by club now because it just sums everything up at once. I can get more done too. I have stopped giving player stats and transfers images because the database is full of newgens (regens for OGs).

Season 1: World Record Holders and a Result out of the blue

I thought I’d give this a go after yearning to be able to sign players after some attempts at youth only, though may have to restart at some point as I loaded too many leagues so I’m playing in slow mode.

World Record Holders

The first team I took control of was none other than the record holders for the biggest international defeat American Samoa. Why? I don’t really know, they don’t compete in a relevant competition and they’re not very good so will lose mostly. Add to that in taking the job I had some club sides withdraw their job offers. I suppose it eases me into International management as it is something I’ve not done in a few Football Manager iterations.

Result out of the blue

Eventually I got a club side alongside my international team Gottne IF who were hovering above the relegation zone in the Swedish 4th tier with 8 games to go. I took over the week before the end of the transfer window with them having a very small squad with glaring weaknesses, no left sided players at all being the big one. As there was only a week the signings were very much scattergun and not scouted very much. The combination of a large influx of players and a team that hadn’t really been doing well meant we had patchy to bad form for our first 7 games (2 wins 5 losses) as we looked to try and find a style that suited us. This left us to play the team directly below us on the final day where not losing would see us safe from relegation and somehow we won 7-0 having not shown anything like that in our previous games.

The eight games

The 7-0

Next Season

I’m probably only staying at American Samoa until the OFC Nations Cup which starts in March, though if we do progress it could lead to World Cup Qualifiers but highly doubtful given our lack of quality. With Gottne IF I’m hoping the end of season result wasn’t a flash in a pan and that we can build on it to be upwards towards the top end of the table, especially with a long break before the start of the season allowing for signing the right players.

Upon Joining Gottne they agreed to send me on a coaching course so hopefully I’ll be able to get another badge under my belt whilst here.

We started the season off with another victory in the Super Cup, strolling to victory over Black Leopards

We then won the MTN 8, righting the wrong of last seasons loss on penalties

Next up was the Telkom Knockout which we retained comfortably

We failed to win the Nedbank Cup again, this time losing in the quarters to TS Galaxy

But we did retain the Premiership title, strolling to success with 3 games left in the campaign

The only competition that counted this year though was the Champions League and we dominated it. This was so much easier to win than the Confederations Cup, we didn't run into a single South African team along the way and just battered everyone.

That means that Africa has been completed. It took a year longer than I planned originally and I used instant result for almost everything in the last season, which felt like cheating. It also took a lot of the fun out of the game, so I'm going to move away from that unless I'm in the same situation again in the future. For now, I'm on the hunt for another job. Whether that leads me to South America or Europe is to be seen

Decided to have a crack at this for the first time, although the majority of my FM saves start unemployed with the lowest reputation so it's not too different to what I'm used to. Used a random number generator to select which leagues to start with (on top of the major European leagues). Had quite a few offers from clubs in Liga 2 in Indonesia and ended up taking the job with Mitra Kukar, a recently relegated Liga 1 team who had ambitions of making the playoffs in the first season before getting promoted to Liga 1 again by the second season.

I began with the team having already played two matches and drawing them both. Took a few games to really sort out the formation and starting XI which dropped us down the table despite not really losing. Settling on 4-4-1-1 with a positive playing style focused on dominating possession we started to pick up wins and also keep clean sheets. Having pulled ourselves into the playoff hunt (Liga 2 is split into East/West and the top 4 teams from each go to 'phase 2' at the end of the season where eventually three teams go up) with four wins and a draw in five games, we met some of our playoff rivals and lost three of our next five. We responded yet again winning our next three to set up a huge clash away with a team level on points with us fighting for a playoff spot. We lost 2-0 meaning things were out of our control and despite winning the final two games of the season we fell agonisingly short by one point.

Whilst that was deemed a huge disappointment by the board (I blame the two draws before I took over) we had something to shout about in the national cup competition: Piala Indonesia - A 128 team competition that features pretty much every club in Indonesia from the first round. From the 3rd round onwards every round is based on a home and away leg meaning you need to play 12 matches to win it. We used our reserves to beat two non-league teams in the first two rounds before seeing off Liga 2 opposition in rounds three and four. Then we came up against top-half Liga 1 opposition in Persija. We managed to somehow draw the first leg 1-1 before snatching a last minute 1-0 victory away from home to put us into the semi final. We again faced a Liga 1 team, again mid-table. PSIS were nowhere near as good as Persija and we won the first leg 1-0 before a 1-1 draw away from home did enough to put us into a historic final, the first in the club's history. We faced off against second from bottom Liga 1 side Persela. The first leg we hammered them away from home but conceded to their only shot on target in the last minute to go into the second leg at 1-1. The second leg of the final was nervy but our sub striker scored with his first touch to put us ahead in the second half. They scored a worldie 30 yard free kick with 10 minutes to go to level before our captain smashed in a header with five minutes to go to clinch the title.

The win goes up there as one of my favourite ever titles in FM, simply because of the amount of teams entered, the amount of matches we had to play and the fact we are in the second tier and about the 30th best team in the country. The win gives us entry into the AFC Cup next year and should save me from the sack (I haven't advanced on from the day of the final but they've already offered me a one-year contract extension despite the media calling for me to be sacked).

I resigned from Orlando Pirates and applied for various jobs, from Juve to Porto, River Plate to Lazio and ended up with a job managing ... Saudi Arabia. It's not optimal, especially as half of South America and Europe came available a couple of weeks after taking over which would have given me a shot at the World Cup coming up, but I need to take the Asian Cup at some point so I might as well go for it now. It's 2.5 years away though, so hopefully I can pick up a club job in the meantime

@_JHTB_ @treva Welcome to the challenge.

You both started off 20 (or 19) years old, no quals/exp or extra databases?

Oooh, 99 pages. It would be a lot more impressive if the youth challenge hadn't notched up 69 pages in just over 6 months.

Thank you for the welcome. That's correct: born 99' and no quals, experience or db. Managed to earn National C Licence during the season and now onto National B Licence in the off season.

Challenge Update

I managed to win the German Bundesliga with 2 league games to spare. A dominant Bayern Munich team. I am very lucky that I have a good enough rep now to get the big teams wanting to hire me so makes the challenge easier.

Even though it doesn't count as an achievement I have already got but I won the Champions League so what my plans are is to stay with Bayern for another season to try win the Club World Cup and also the German Cup as well as I was annoyed I lost in the 3rd round of that.

I'm sure this has already been asked and answered but I cant remember the answer! In a country that has 2 domestic cup competitions (eg England - FA Cup, League Cup) does only 1 count towards the domestic cups target or do both count?
